Aunque siempre he sido más fanático del universo de DC, las películas en live action no habían sido las mejores, siendo infructuosos los múltiples intentos para crear un universo como el de Marvel. James Gunn tenía entre sus manos una tarea muy difícil, pues iniciar este nuevo reinicio con Superman era un reto, y si soy sincero, no tenía demasiadas expectativas, pero aunque creo que no es la mejor película basada en los cómics de DC, pudimos ver una faceta más humana del hombre de acero, alejado de esa mística de semidiós de otras entregas, encontrando un correcto equilibrio entre comedia y acción, incluso desarrollando un entremado de temas políticos y sociales, que no se sienten tan pesados y dan más profundidad al relato.

Although I've always been more of a fan of the DC universe, the live-action films hadn't been the best, with multiple attempts to create a universe like Marvel's being unsuccessful. James Gunn had a very difficult task on his hands, since starting this new reboot with Superman was a challenge, and if I'm honest, I didn't have too many expectations, but although I think it's not the best film based on DC comics, we were able to see a more human side of the Man of Steel, far from the demigod mystique of other installments, finding the right balance between comedy and action, even developing an interweaving of political and social themes, which don't feel so heavy and give more depth to the story.

Antes de la trama, quiero empezar hablando de las interpretaciones de Superman, Lois Lane y Lex Luthor, quienes fueron los que más me gustaron de la película, y en quienes se centra toda la historia. Como ya dije, aquí vemos alejada esa imagen de semidiós de superman, y aunque a muchos no les ha gustado eso, pienso que es algo más realista, ya que por ejemplo, en la escena de la entrevista con Lois en su apartamento, vemos como se enoja, como no siempre tiene una respuesta, llegando a frustrarse, y aunque seas el más poderoso del mundo, la vida y las situaciones no siempre las podemos resolver solo con el ideal de tratar de mejorar al mundo, más aún cuando aparentemente, todavía eres un nuvato como héroe, además todo es un efecto mariposa, no sabemos si nuestras acciones, a la larga, pueden traer más dolor.

Before the plot, I want to start by talking about the performances of Superman, Lois Lane, and Lex Luthor, who were my favorites in the film, and on whom the whole story focuses. As I said, here we see a departure from that demigod image of Superman, and although many have not liked that, I think it is somewhat more realistic, since for example, in the interview scene with Lois in her apartment, we see how he gets angry, how he doesn't always have an answer, becoming frustrated, and even if you are the most powerful in the world, life and situations cannot always be resolved only with the ideal of trying to improve the world, even more so when apparently, you are still a novice as a hero, besides everything is a butterfly effect, we do not know if our actions, in the long run, can bring more pain.

Ese enfoque del hombre de acero contrasta con Lois Lane, quien no ve la amabilidad de las personas de la misma forma, y más allá de antagonizar a Clark, pienso que intenta darle otra visión de los hechos, protegiéndolo desde su propia forma de ser, mostrando una versión del personaje más cercana a lo que yo conocí inicialmente en series y películas, alejándose de esa primera versión de los cómics, que solo existía para complacer. Por último, pero no menos importante, Lex Luthor, un acierto total, probablemente lo que más me gustó, porque demuestra la inseguridad y envidia que cualquier humano podría tener ante un ente superpoderoso, que solo por ser quien es, puede dominar al mundo a placer, sin ningún tipo de esfuerzo, mientras que tu a base de ingenio, estas a su merced (aunque es un poco más megalomaniaco de lo normal).

That approach of the Man of Steel contrasts with Lois Lane, who does not see the kindness of people in the same way, and beyond antagonizing Clark, I think she tries to give him another vision of the facts, protecting him from her own way of being, showing a version of the character closer to what I initially knew in series and movies, moving away from that first version of the comics, which only existed to please. Last but not least, Lex Luthor, a total success, probably what I liked the most, because it shows the insecurity and envy that any human could have before a super-powerful entity, who just because of who he is, can dominate the world at will, without any effort, while you, based on ingenuity, are at his mercy (although he is a little more megalomaniacal than usual).

Los secundarios también estuvieron excelentes, la venezolana María de Faria no desentonó, como la ingeniera, tuvo varias escenas de acción y se vió bien, resaltando que al no ser conclusiva su participación, seguro será parte de próximos proyectos de DC. El linterna verde de Guy Gardner fue muy diferente a las versiones que hemos visto en otros proyectos, mencionando a los Green Lantern Corps, lo que promete expandir más este universo, pero de los secundarios fue Mister Terrific quien se llevó todos los reflectores, tuvo un peso importante en la trama, pese a no ser un héroe tan conocido fuera de los cómics. Kryto el perro maravilla hizo un debut sólido, vemos que su comportamiento es por su dueño, Supergirl, y aunque fue completamente modelado por efectos especiales, basándose en el mismo perro del director, sus interacciones se sintieron muy orgánicas.

The supporting cast was also excellent. Venezuelan María de Faria was a great fit as the engineer. She had several action scenes and looked good, highlighting that since her participation is not conclusive, she will surely be part of upcoming DC projects. Guy Gardner's Green Lantern was very different from the versions we've seen in other projects, mentioning the Green Lantern Corps, which promises to expand this universe even more. But of the supporting cast, it was Mister Terrific who stole the spotlight. He had an important role in the plot, despite not being a well-known hero outside of comics. Kryto the Wonder Dog made a solid debut. We see that his behavior is due to his owner, Supergirl, and although he was completely modeled by special effects, based on the director's own dog, their interactions felt very organic.

Hablando de la trama, vemos como este Superman no tiene una historia de inicio per se, sino que más bien vemos sus inicios como héroe novato, mostrándonos cierta cosas de su pasado, que demuestran el porqué de su personalidad, sumado, a que en esta ocasión, su padre no muere en su infancia. Su mundo ya tenía conocimiento de los metahumanos previamente a su existencia, pero su poder es algo definitorio, pues parte de la humanidad lo ve como una amenaza, haciendo que la historia de sus padres kryptonianos genere tanta incomodidad, a sí como que justifica el equipo que estaba formando Luthor, quien bajo las sombras, ideó todo y creó esos universos de bolsillo, que probablemente serán muy importantes para integrar otros personajes de DC, pues se rumorea que el Peacemaker que hizo un cameo en las noticias, no es el mismo que el de la serie, aunque ojalá que no, pues allí ya se hizo mención a Batman.

Speaking of the plot, we see how this Superman does not have a coming-of-age story per se, but rather we see his beginnings as a rookie hero, showing us certain things from his past, which demonstrate the reason for his personality, added to the fact that this time, his father does not die in his childhood. His world already had knowledge of metahumans prior to their existence, but his power is something defining, since part of humanity sees him as a threat, making the story of his Kryptonian parents generate so much discomfort, as well as justifying the team that Luthor was forming, who under the shadows, devised everything and created those pocket universes, which will probably be very important to integrate other DC characters, since it is rumored that the Peacemaker who made a cameo in the news is not the same as the one in the series, although I hope not, since Batman was already mentioned there.

Otro cosa que no me cuadro del todo fue el tono de la película, pues aunque siempre se han hecho chistes con la oscuridad de DC, comparado con las historias de Marvel, Gunn le dió su toque más vivo a este nuevo universo, con mucha similitudes a su saga de Guardianes de la Galaxia. Hay una escena con Jimmy Olsen donde se ven las calles de Metrópolis, muy distantes al ambiente del resto de la película, y aunque eso me hizo pensar que en zonas de esas características más oscuras podrían desarrollarse las historias de Batman, por ejemplo, no estoy seguro si se mantendría del todo la esencia del caballero de noche, por lo que me muero de ganas de ver la segunda temporada de Peacemaker, para ver si mantiene el tono de esa primera, que realmente me gustó.

Another thing that didn't quite fit me was the tone of the film, because although there have always been jokes about the darkness of DC, compared to Marvel stories, Gunn gave his most lively touch to this new universe, with many similarities to his Guardians of the Galaxy saga. There's a scene with Jimmy Olsen where you can see the streets of Metropolis, very distant from the atmosphere of the rest of the film, and although that made me think that in areas with those darker characteristics the stories of Batman, for example, could develop, I'm not sure if the essence of the Dark Knight would be fully maintained, so I'm dying to see the second season of Peacemaker, to see if it maintains the tone of the first one, which I really liked.

En conclusión, la película no es perfecta, tiene muchas conveniencias de guión y algunas decisiones polémicas, como el de cambiar el origen de los padres kryptonianos o la nueva Supergirl, que si dista muchísimo de la imagen general del personaje, han causado mucho escozor en algunos fanáticos, pero dentro de todo, pienso que no están tan mal, solo quieren mostrarnos una realidad diferente de estos personajes, basándose un poco más en nuestros tiempos, sin llegar a ser tan exagerados con esa ola de inclusión forzada que tanto me tiene cansado. Tal vez abusan un poco del discurso político y social, llevándolo casi a un calca de nuestra misma sociedad, pero como siempre Superman ha sido un estandarte de paz y de que siempre podemos ser mejores, no llega a eclipsar tanto la trama y la historia del primer superheroe de la historia.

In conclusion, the film is not perfect, it has many script conveniences and some controversial decisions, such as changing the origin of the Kryptonian parents or the new Supergirl, which although it is very far from the general image of the character, has caused a lot of irritation in some fans, but all in all, I think they are not so bad, they just want to show us a different reality of these characters, based a little more in our times, without being so exaggerated with that wave of forced inclusion that has me so tired. Maybe they abuse the political and social discourse a little, taking it almost to a carbon copy of our own society, but as Superman has always been a banner of peace and that we can always be better, it does not overshadow so much the plot and the story of the first superhero in history.
