Today I want to introduce you to a very moving film called "Past Lives." It's based on the separation of two childhood friends, Nora and Hae Sung. Nora's family moves to the United States for better opportunities, as her father was a film director. As time passes, Hae Sung tries to contact Nora, and after 12 years, they manage to communicate via the internet. However, the attempt is unsuccessful, and they separate again. After another 12 years, they meet again, but Nora has already built a life for herself, has a husband, and is settled in New York. Hae Sung manages to travel from Korea to New York to meet his old love and wonder what would have happened if they had met 12 years earlier, or if she hadn't left Korea. The film ends with him leaving for the airport, and both are left with many unanswered questions.

This time, something resonated with me: the Korean tradition and philosophy of In-yun (or inyeon). So I've been researching this, and it turns out this is a concept rooted in Buddhism and reincarnation that describes destiny and karmic connections between people. It holds that any encounter, however brief (even brushing against a stranger's clothes on the street), is the result of bonds built over thousands of past lives. The saying suggests that for two people to marry, they must have shared 8,000 layers of in-yun across different reincarnations.

That's why it's mentioned in the movie; perhaps they had a past life and were linked again. They had an inevitable connection, but it was no longer possible for them to be together.

Thanks for reading this far. If you like romantic movies about relationships, this is a good choice. This time, I invite @yusmelys, @angeluxx, and @cositav to participate.
