The Classic (2003)

I first turned to the Korean movie industry for thrillers, then action and romance. They have really lots of gems in their bucket for us. Recently, One of my movie enthusiast friends, who is mainly addicted to Korean dramas, suggested this one give it a try. Here I am, delighted; it was an amazing one.

The Classic is a Korean film from the genre of romance. The director and writer of this film are Jae-young Kwak. I haven't watched anything from him before. As for our star actors, we get to see Son Ye-jin, and we may have already known her because of another very popular romantic film named A Moment to Remember.

I wanna start by calling this film an adorable and emotional one. Every progress, scene, acting, and story was so sweet and appealing that I was hoping for it to keep going on and on. Two hours of runtime became short for me. A few scenes might get you emotional, but most of them will give you a refreshing feeling of love. Two love stories go parallel, one with the other, one from the past and another in the present. Do they connect somewhere? Ummmmmm, that should be unanswered right now.

Both of the stories contain a similar love triangle, two friends in love with the same person. One to move with another to fade away, we won't have a hard time choosing the perfect pair, but they definitely have a hard time being together. The present story and the flashbacks progressed together, where both of the endings were given a full stop at the end, and that ending was something else, a twist that might melt your heart.

To be honest, this one has not much to tell without spoiling it. Maybe I can quote a few lines that touched me while watching,

"Look outside the window.
If the branches swing gently in the wind, then the one you love is loving you, too."

"Right now, it's snowing outside.
When it first snows, they say you should stroll with your beloved."

Best scenes? There are many, for example, butterfly ones, rain scenes on both timelines, a haunted house on the opposite side of the river, and many more.

It was a perfect one if someone is looking for a romantic genre film. I haven't watched many movies from this genre in the Korean industry. Films like this increase my temptation to explore this genre more and more, as I did with thrillers. Anything on your mind to suggest? Or you are blank on this part, too, just like me; hehe, no worries, go for it; we will explore more in the coming days; happy watching.
