Enough of thrillers so it was time for a drama, sort of a comedy one as the genre suggests but it was too good to digest. A beautiful one that many of us would surely love. The most satisfying thing is that it's based on a true story. Yeah, someone lived that and is still living. As the film is from 2011 so I had to google to find out the real character, which is Philippe Pozzo di Borgo, owner of an inherited historic hotel Particulier in Paris, who met with an accident while paragliding and became a quadriplegic. I have also checked if he is still alive or not and yes, he is still living and 71 years old now.

The Intouchables is a French comedy-drama movie which is written and directed by Olivier Nakache and Eric Toledano. The role of Philippe is played by Francois Cluzet and as his assistant, Omar Sy played the role of Driss.

So the movie starts with a scene where Driss is driving a car with Philippe and he did violate some driving rules so the police are now chasing them. He bets with Philippe that he would get away but they get caught, he again bets double that they still have the chance to escape and this time he wins, Philippe did help him with his acting a little bit. Well, that scene showed a great bonding among them, a happy one, we got that without any intro or anything about them so we get back to the story before that day, from the beginning.

Philippe, being a quadriplegic patient, needs someone to help him in his daily living so he and his assistant Magalie are interviewing for a live-in caregiver. Driss did apply for the job but wasn't interested so he asks for a rejection signature on his papers but by his informal actions Philippe seemed to be happy and the next day he gets the offer for the job but on a trial basis. And the story moves on at its own pace.

Driss cares for Philippe without losing his instincts, actually he gets too much free and close to Philippe, usually what a caretaker doesn't do. And Philippe does enjoy them too.
Philippe got the wealth and Driss gets a chance to enjoy that luxury of being around him, we got to see the life of Driss, his living conditions, and his backstory. Well, as the genre says in some places that it's also a comedy but not entirely, yeah there are a few scenes, not few but many scenes that would make you laugh too hard to resist but the overall tone of the movie has given me a different vibe, I don't suggest anyone as its a comedy movie to enjoy rather an amazing drama, a beautiful one, worth of our time to see the beauty in life.

Sometimes things work best out of order and Driss was on that pretty well. Giving his smoke to Philippe even though it wasn't recommended to him, looking into Philippe's personal life, interfering in them and the ending scene, his interference brought about a result which Philippe hadn't dreamed of but Driss made that happen.

Overall I would say it was great to enjoy. Filled with some entertaining scenes, yet a very caring friendship relation between these two men. They kinda tried to fulfill one another's lackings. Okay, it was a worthy break from my thriller timeline to jump into a less intensive storyline. Overall I would love to rate it 8 out of 10. I had to enjoy it with subtitles as I don't understand French and didn't get the English one, if I could then I would have surely enjoyed it even more. Happy Watching!

Excellent French film. There is a remake called The Upside, it is very entertaining but the original is infinitely superior. Cheers.

Yes, there is always a priority for the original versions.

Hopefully, the English subtitles were good! Sometimes we miss a lot when something is translated! It is good to vary the genre!! A little bit of drama is good for your life! Thanks for the review

It's a great movie based on real life. It shows awareness of the risks we take in our lives and their true friendship.
