Day 5 - the 8 July 2025

THE THING WITH FEATHERS BY DYLAN SOUTHERN

IMG-20250712-WA0004.jpg

Seen at a press conférence; the movie is a deeply moving film about grief. Between absurdity, thrills, laughter, and tears, this film took me through a whole range of emotions.

VFX BREAKDOWN SHOGUN WITH PHILIP ENGSTRÖM, VFX Supervisor at Important Looking Pirates

The internationally renowned Shogun series received an Emmy Award for its quality. We had the chance to attend a conference given by one of the supervisors from the Looking Pirates studio. He talked about the special effects, the various art motifs, characters, and landscapes.

The supervisor showed us how they worked on the series to achieve a unique look and result. It was very technical and extremely interesting. Having never seen the series before, I will definitely watch it after the NIFFF.

LA TOUR DE GLACE BY LUCILE HADZIHALILOVIĆ

IMG-20250711-WA0011.jpg

Having seen the film with a fellow volunteer, we attended the screening with the great actress Marion Cotillard. A fantastic version of The Snow Queen.

The story tells of a young girl who runs away from her parents' home to pursue her dream of becoming an actress. Between manipulation and the suffering of adolescence, it's a pretty tough life. Nevertheless, it reflects the lives that some of us live.

HONEY BUNCH BY MADELEINE SIMS-FEWER AND DUSTY MANCINELLI

IMG-20250712-WA0002.jpg

This film truly lives up to its director's reputation, meaning it is open, funny, and full of hilarious scenes.

Between alien tentacles and human mating, mixed with the profound suffering that we can all experience during our lives, this film is a masterpiece.

THE HOME BY MATHIAS J. SKOGLUND

IMG-20250712-WA0003.jpg

The film takes place in a retirement home when an elderly woman moves in. Full of emotion, violence, drama, and thrills, it really and deep touched me.

TOUCH ME BY ADDISON HEIMANN

IMG-20250712-WA0001.jpg

The film lives up to its director's reputation: sublime, eventful, and intense. This screening, which we had the opportunity to attend with the director present, speaks to the intense suffering that some of us may experience, mixing humor and scenes that are more than delirious.

Between dance, alien tentacles, and deep psychology, it will take you on a journey into a unique universe.

Day 6 - the 9 July 2025

NIGHT SILENCE BY BARTOSZ M. KOWALSKI

IMG-20250712-WA0006.jpg

This fantasy Polonese film of all genres tells the story of an elderly man who feels somewhat abandoned by his son when he is taken to a retirement home. Between shocking madness, thrills, and intrigue, this horror tale is unlike any other.

BOKSHI BY BHARGAV SAIKA

IMG-20250712-WA0005.jpg

This is the story of a girl tormented after the death of her mother and sent to a center so she can rehabilitate herself. Between mystical journeys and legends, her torments resurface.

THE OLD WOMAN WITH A KNIFE BYMIN KYU-DONG

1783361.jpeg

This Korean film is just crazy! It tells the story of a legendary, atypical old woman assassin whose past comes back to haunt her. With action and fighting, this film is just brilliant and full of suspense from the start.

I was suppose to see more movies but I was a little tired... So I am so happy to have seen these. 🥰

In Canada, we have the TIFF, Toronto International Film Festival but it's fairly far for me to go. Then I have much smaller venue of the Vancouver International Film Festival but I forget when it was supposed to be this year. It skipped some years due to Covid.

Nice to see you here more often @misschance
