[Movie] Man Of War (2026) Review: A Father's Fight
There’s something about ** Man Of War** that didn't waste ten minutes explaining how tough its main character is. It simply throwed him into a dangerous situation and lets you figure it out yourself.
That’s pretty much what Man of War did.
Starring Connor (LaMonica Garrett) the movie follows a former Special Forces operative who got pulled back into the kind of life he desperately wanted to leave behind. When his adopted daughter, Riley, was caught in Ukraine during the Russian invasion,
Connor didn't have the luxury of sitting around and hoping someone would rescue her.
He went after her himself.
And honestly, that simple motivation is what made the story work.

Connor wasn't trying to save the world. He was just looking for his daughter. That personal reason gave the usual military-rescue storyline a little more weight. You understand why he kept pushing forward even when everything around him was telling him to stop.
Connor (LaMonica Garrett) fits the role surprisingly well. He didn't play Connor like a superhero who can walk through a battlefield without getting scratched. Instead, there was tiredness to him. He looked like someone who has already seen enough violence but knew he has no choice but to step back into it.

And once he did, things got ugly.
The action is probably the strongest part of the movie. There were plenty of gunfights, explosions, tactical movements and close calls, but what I liked most was that the movie didn't make every fight look easy. Connor got hurt. His Plans went wrong. He made Mistakes that mades the action felt more grounded and gave those dangerous moments some real tension.
Dany (Andrew Howard) also brought some much-needed personality to the movie. His character gave Connor someone to interact with beyond the constant seriousness, and their partnership made some of the quieter moments easier to sit through.

The movie wasn't perfect, though.
The story followed a formula we've seen before, and if you've watched a lot of military action movies, you may be able to predict where certain things are heading. Some of the supporting characters could also have been developed a little more.
But for me, that didn't completely take away my experience.
That's where Man of War succeeded.
It felt like the kind of gritty action movie you could put on when you're in the mood for something intense without expecting it to become the next masterpiece of the genre.

Connor (LaMonica Garrett) carried the movie well, and the combination of the emotional rescue mission and hard-hitting action kept it moving.
Is it the most original military thriller? Probably not.
Is it entertaining? Absolutely.
If you're into movies like Extraction, The Contractor, or tactical war thrillers, Man of War is worth adding to your watchlist.
