It was one of the sad news on television at the start of 2021: the American Gods series was canceled after three seasons by the American network Starz. This adaptation of the eponymous work of the novelist Neil Gaiman will not see a sequel ... But will continue to live through a new series commissioned by Amazon for its SVoD Prime Video service. Entitled Anansi Boys , this spin-off which does not say its name will focus on the offspring of the character of Mr. Nancy, alias Anansi, the god of West Africa played by actor Orlando Jones and well known to fans. from American Gods .

Son of a god, big problems

This new series will follow the new life of Charlie Nancy, Anansi's son, learning not only of the death of his late father in Florida, but also of the almighty nature of his father. To top it off, Nancy receives a visit from her little brother Spider, still unknown until now, and who should make her life a little more complicated.

Ananasi Boys will be scripted by Gaiman himself alongside Sir Lenny Henry, with Endor Productions and Red Production Company on the producers' benches. Gaiman will also act in companion of Douglas Mackinnon as showrunner on this production which will have six episodes. Gaiman spoke about the show's announcement:

“The Anansi Boys series is a long time ago - I first started working on it with Endor and Red to bring it to life over a decade ago. We needed Amazon Prime to join us and accept our vision, we needed a director with the talent and vision of Hanelle Hulpepper, we needed the creative and technical wizardry of Douglas Mackinnon (who found the way to push the limits of what is possible to film a story set all over the world in a huge studio outside of Edinburgh) and we needed all the other great talent that is still under wraps right now. "

Anansi Boys will go into production later this year in Scotland, and no release horizon has yet been announced - we'll probably have to wait a long time to find out more.
