Witchfinder General (1968) Review + Film

If you’ve never watched Witchfinder General, then you are truly deprived.

This film always gets lumped into the horror genre for a multitude of reasons, which honestly is a blessing and a curse because at its core this is an incredible drama with surreal horror subtext tacked on, but it shouldn't be dismissed as just a horror film.

Vincent Price, king of classic horror stars as the titular & sinister Witchfinder General. This fact alone all but seals the films fate as being considered a horror film, but acts as the trojan horse to help introduce this film to unsuspecting plebbers.

Conversely, another "horror" element we get is from the cry baby bitch bullshit pointing out the hypocrisy in those who abused their stations within religious organizations, namely old school Christianity.

I can understand the terror that may have caused in olden times, but here in the modern apocalypse world, we have the same thing, but under the guise of "Science" and “Trust the System” propaganda. Scum can infiltrate anything you see, keep ya head on a swivel pal!

At least during the time in when Witchfinder is set, you could do what the hero of our film does, and go across country whipping ass like a fucking man, instead of being a neutered punk bitch that gets locked up by incompetent, obese losers.

A soldier Richard, seeks to avenge his loves defilement (Sara) at the hands of a corrupt Witchfinder General and his accomplices.

Basically Vincent price rides around from town to town doing the whole inquisition of witches thing. Along the way he grabs poon here and there that he fancies, and presumably spares them.

However in this case, the lady he wanted to play Double Dare with Sara, (Mark Summers Style) gets raped by his right hand man, thus ending the Price Man's attraction to Sara's purity.

Richard says "Fuck that Noise!" and goes on the chase of all chases, to quench his bloodlust for revenge.

This is a godamn great movie. The cinematography just interlinks with the time period it’s trying to capture perfectly.

Our hero Richard acts like a man possessed and every scene he’s in is accompanied by tension on whether or not he will succeed.

The ending blew our fucking minds. To see Richard's journey and how it ends, how he reacts to everything makes you empathize and frightened.

Incredible Acting

MRHELLBOX – When men could be men. Even if you die pursuing your passions & what you believe in, at least you lived. Fuck these modern-day wasteland rails they try to put you on. This is what it means to love someone, and do right by them. – 5/5

DRUNKEN MASTER – Price Man delivers again. Out of all his roles, this was the one I found to be his most disdainful and villainous. Great casting, great acting. Don’t get me started on all the wenches and pubs in this film either…this was heaven, even if hell was being done around you. Send me back! – 5/5

PRINCE PECTORAL – Richard is the real iron man in this movie. Torture, depression and beatdowns can’t stop him. He’s a motherfucking terminator. – 5/5
