[ESP-ENG] Film Review: Blue Valentine (2010) - Love is not always enough 🥀

Hola amigos de la querida comunidad de Movies & Tv el día de hoy finalmente conseguí una de las películas que quise ver desde hace mucho tiempo, pero al parecer está película no fue muy conocida cuando salió y creo que está en pocas plataformas de streaming.

Hello friends of the beloved Movies & Tv community today I finally got one of the movies I wanted to see for a long time, but apparently this movie was not very well known when it came out and I think it is on few streaming platforms.

Lo que más me llamo la atención fue que aparece una de mis actrices favoritas después de verla en la película de Manchester By The Sea junto a Casey Affleck en la cual interpreto el papel de esposa de Casey y me gustó su manera de actuar. Ella es Michelle Williams algunos la conocerán por la película que les mencione y otros por la relación que tuvo con Heath Ledger antes de que el falleciera y con el cual tuvo una hermosa hija. Bueno está película me parecía muy interesante y quería verla pero no la había encontrado, hasta que por fin la encontré en inglés y busqué los subtítulos en español.

What caught my attention the most was the appearance of one of my favorite actresses after seeing her in the movie Manchester By The Sea with Casey Affleck in which she played the role of Casey's wife and I liked the way she acted. She is Michelle Williams, some of you may know her from the movie I mentioned and others from the relationship she had with Heath Ledger before he passed away and with whom she had a beautiful daughter. Well this movie seemed very interesting to me and I wanted to see it but I had not found it, until I finally found it in English and looked for the Spanish subtitles.

La película se llama Blue Valentine es del año 2010 y fue dirigida por Derek Cianfrance. Es una película de género drama romántico y los protagonistas de esta historia son Michelle Williams y Ryan Gosling. Les contaré un poco sobre la historia y trataré de no hacer spoilers pero será difícil. Cindy (Michelle Williams) es una joven con una vida normal, está en la universidad y tiene muy buenas calificaciones, quiere en un futuro ser Médico y vive con sus padres y su abuela. Dean (Ryan Gosling) es un joven que tuvo una familia disfuncional y no termino sus estudios por lo que se dedica a hacer diferentes trabajos como ayudante haciendo mudanzas.

The movie is called Blue Valentine is from 2010 and was directed by Derek Cianfrance. It is a movie of romantic drama genre and the main characters of this story are Michelle Williams and Ryan Gosling. I will tell you a little bit about the story and I will try not to make spoilers but it will be difficult. Cindy (Michelle Williams) is a young girl with a normal life, she is in college and has very good grades, she wants in the future to be a Doctor and lives with her parents and her grandmother. Dean (Ryan Gosling) is a young man who had a dysfunctional family and did not finish his studies so it is dedicated to do different jobs as a helper doing removals.

Un día Dean está subiendo las cajas de una mudanza a un señor de la tercera edad, se siente un poco entusiasmado y le arregla la habitación para que el señor se sienta cómodo en su nuevo hogar. Este gesto me pareció muy bonito de su parte y en esta mudanza ve salir a una joven que llama de inmediato su atención, el empieza a averiguar cómo se llama esta chica hasta que se entera de que su nombre es Cindy.

One day Dean is moving boxes upstairs for an elderly gentleman, he feels a little excited and arranges his room so that the gentleman feels comfortable in his new home. I thought this gesture was very nice of him and in this move he sees a young woman leaving who immediately catches his attention, he starts to find out what this girl's name is until he learns that her name is Cindy.

Cuando vuelven a encontrarse Cindy y Dean, el se le acerca y le dice que se enteró de su nombre por casualidad y empieza a querer saber más acerca de esta hermosa chica que ha cautivado su corazón. Dean no se da por vencido y persiste en salir y hacer cosas con Cindy, el es muy divertido y hace muchas cosas como bailar o cantar para ella, invitándola a su mundo de un loco soñador. Cindy a pesar de no querer nada serio con el ya que está interesada en Bobby un joven de la universidad, termina estando con Dean por diferentes circunstancias.

When Cindy and Dean meet again, he approaches her and tells her that he found out her name by chance and begins to want to know more about this beautiful girl who has captivated his heart. Dean doesn't give up and persists in going out and doing things with Cindy, he is a lot of fun and does a lot of things like dancing or singing for her, inviting her into his world of a crazy dreamer. Cindy despite not wanting anything serious with him as she is interested in Bobby a young man from college, ends up being with Dean for different circumstances.

La historia de Cindy y Dean cómo todas las historias de amor al comienzo es muy bonita, se muestran muy felices he incluso la familia va creciendo y terminan formalizando su relación casándose. Lo que lleva a qué ahora sean una familia con una hija de por medio, el tiempo va pasando y las cosas se van volviendo monótonas, lo que en un día parecía la mejor decisión ya no parece ser lo que está bien en la actualidad. Cindy y Dean se quieren a pesar de todo, pero es suficiente el amor para mantener una relación, por supuesto que no. Debe haber un lazo entre ambos que sea más que ser los padres de una niña o ser una pareja supuestamente feliz.

The story of Cindy and Dean as all love stories at the beginning is very nice, they are very happy and even the family is growing and end up formalizing their relationship by getting married. What leads to what now is a family with a daughter in between, time goes by and things are becoming monotonous, what once seemed the best decision no longer seems to be what is right now. Cindy and Dean love each other no matter what, but is love enough to sustain a relationship, of course not. There has to be a bond between the two of them that is more than just being the parents of a child or being a supposedly happy couple.

El tiempo pasa y el amor a pesar de que está ahí, se siente como las decisiones que no fueron tomadas y las que si, llevan a esta relación a un punto dónde se preguntan si es lo mejor estar juntos o simplemente deben aceptar que llegaron a un momento en el que las cosas han cambiado y ya no son los mismos jóvenes de antes. Pero es difícil para ambos decir las palabras adecuadas, decir lo que realmente quisieran hacer aunque hubieran corazones rotos de por medio.

Time goes by and the love even though it is there, it feels like the decisions that were not made and the ones that were, bring this relationship to a point where they wonder if it is the best to be together or they simply have to accept that they have reached a point where things have changed and they are no longer the same young people they were before. But it is difficult for both of them to say the right words, to say what they would really like to do even if there are broken hearts involved.

La forma en la que el director guío las escenas me pareció muy buena aunque la película fue un poco larga por lo que me hizo dudar en un momento de si valdría la pena verla hasta el final. En todas las escenas están recuerdos del pasado y del presente lo que hace que sea una película que deje una sensación melancólica al verla. Aún así cada escena, sobre todo una dónde están en un hotel en una habitación con la temática espacial tiene una manera de desarrollar el momento en el que te das cuenta de cómo poco a poco van a terminar las cosas.

The way in which the director guided the scenes I found very good although the film was a little long so it made me doubt at one point if it would be worth watching it until the end. In all the scenes there are memories of the past and the present which makes it a film that leaves a melancholic feeling when watching it. Still each scene, especially one where they are in a hotel in a space themed room has a way of developing the moment where you realize how things are slowly going to end.

Las actuaciones de Ryan Gosling y Michelle Williams fueron buenas aunque sentí que no tuvieron mucha química como pareja, creo que tenía más química Ryan Gosling con Rachel McAdams en The Notebook. Aún así supieron reflejar los momentos de felicidad, de angustia, de tristeza y de soledad de una manera muy profesional y siento que disfrute ver más los últimos 45 minutos que el principio de la película, pero bueno creo que aún así fue una película digna de ver aunque no sea la mejor entre tantas. Esta pelicula habla sobre las relaciones y las diferentes etapas que se viven estando en pareja, desde el amor como jóvenes que suele ser alocado y desmedido hasta el hecho de separarse aunque duela, porque toda separación siempre termina doliendo.

The performances of Ryan Gosling and Michelle Williams were good although I felt they didn't have much chemistry as a couple, I think Ryan Gosling had more chemistry with Rachel McAdams in The Notebook. Still they knew how to reflect the moments of happiness, anguish, sadness and loneliness in a very professional way and I feel I enjoyed watching the last 45 minutes more than the beginning of the movie, but well I think it was still a movie worth watching even if it is not the best among many. This movie talks about relationships and the different stages of being a couple, from love as young people that is usually crazy and excessive to the fact of separating even if it hurts, because every separation always ends up hurting.

Así como la serie de Scenes From A Marriage donde sale Oscar Isaac con Jessica Chastain la cual aún no he visto pero tengo pensado hacerlo, esta pelicula también muestra el proceso del enamoramiento hasta llegar a la despedida. En Letterboxd le pondría 3/5 estrellas ya que no me pareció una película mala pero no tiene lo suficiente como para decir que es lo mejor del cine. Creo que la serie de Scenes From A Marriage te lleva a sentir de una manera más profunda el comienzo y el final de la relación que muestran en la serie y que también ambos actores como Oscar Isaac y Jessica Chastain tienen una química increíble y hacen una pareja espectacular.

Just like the Scenes From A Marriage series featuring Oscar Isaac with Jessica Chastain which I haven't seen yet but plan to, this movie also shows the process of falling in love and saying goodbye. On Letterboxd I would give it 3/5 stars as I didn't think it was a bad movie but it doesn't have enough to say it's the best of the movies. I think that the series of Scenes From A Marriage takes you to feel in a deeper way the beginning and the end of the relationship that they show in the series and also both actors like Oscar Isaac and Jessica Chastain have an incredible chemistry and make a spectacular couple.

Así que les recomiendo esta película aunque como les digo no es lo mejor pero tiene muchas cosas rescatables. Hay muchas relaciones como las de Cindy y Dean dónde al conocerse de jóvenes sienten una atracción fulminante y esto hace que solo vean las cosas que idealizaron de la otra persona y luego con el pasar del tiempo se vuelva todo complicado y alguna de las partes quiera terminar la relación porque simplemente ya no hay amor o se siente un estancamiento. La parte que me sorprendió fue el final, es muy triste sobre todo para los que hemos vivido la separación de nuestros padres desde una edad temprana, es muy difícil entender las decisiones de nuestros padres a esa edad y también hay que ser responsables y mantener siempre el vínculo entre padres e hijos.

So I recommend this movie although as I say it is not the best but it has many redeemable things. There are many relationships like Cindy and Dean's where when they meet when they are young they feel a sudden attraction and this makes them only see the things they idealized of the other person and then with the passing of time everything becomes complicated and one of the parties wants to end the relationship because there is simply no love or they feel a stagnation. The part that surprised me was the ending, it is very sad especially for those of us who have lived the separation of our parents from an early age, it is very difficult to understand the decisions of our parents at that age and we must also be responsible and always maintain the bond between parents and children.
