Film Review: My Oxford Year | Love transcends the barrier of time. [ESP-ENG]

Hola amigos de la comunidad de Movies & Tv, espero que se encuentren bien. El día de ayer ví una película que ha estado escalando en popularidad por ser esperada por los que lograron leer el libro antes de ver la adaptación y por los amantes de las películas de romance y drama. My Oxford Year es la película de la que les estaré hablando en esta reseña, una historia llena de poesía y libros más el romance inesperado entre un joven profesor y una alumna que sueña con grandes proyectos para su vida, entre ellos crece el amor y aunque lo hacen solo por "diversión" es obvio que al final estarían enamorados.

Hello friends of the Movies & Tv community, I hope you are well. Yesterday I saw a movie that has been climbing in popularity for being awaited by those who managed to read the book before seeing the adaptation and by lovers of romance and drama movies. My Oxford Year is the movie I will be talking about in this review, a story full of poetry and books plus the unexpected romance between a young teacher and a student who dreams of great projects for her life, between them love grows and although they do it just for "fun" it is obvious that in the end they would be in love.

La trama nos cuenta la historia de una joven llamada Anna de la Vega quien soñaba con entrar a la Universidad de Oxford y cuando lo logra producto de su esfuerzo y de su pasión por los estudios se encuentra en medio de una nueva etapa en su vida, la universidad es un lugar desconocido pero donde aprenderá a conocer a nuevas personas, cada uno con su propia personalidad y estarán presentes mientras ella vive el sueño de su vida. Pero las cosas cambian cuando conoce a un joven llamado Jamie Davenport quien termina siendo su profesor pero a la vez la persona más especial en este viaje dentro de la universidad que cambiará su vida para siempre y que le hará entender que los planes no siempre salen como esperamos, pero podemos vivir un día a la vez y disfrutar de lo que el hoy nos ofrece.

The plot tells the story of a young girl named Anna de la Vega who dreamed of entering the University of Oxford and when she achieves it as a result of her effort and her passion for studies, she finds herself in the middle of a new stage in her life, the university is an unknown place but where she will learn to meet new people, each with their own personality and will be present while she lives the dream of her life. But things change when she meets a young man named Jamie Davenport who ends up being her professor but at the same time the most special person in this journey within the university that will change her life forever and that will make her understand that plans do not always go as we expect, but we can live one day at a time and enjoy what today offers us.

No tenía ni la más mínima idea de esta historia o del libro de donde viene la adaptación. Sabía que era una historia de romance y por algunos spoilers que no busqué, ví que también existía el drama dentro de la historia pero no sabía bien de que trataba y logró sorprenderme aunque no es un tema nada nuevo en el cine, ya hemos visto otras películas donde el drama de este estilo surge mientras se navega por un romance que tiene fecha de caducidad al menos terrenalmente. Sin embargo, tenía pocas ganas de verla ya que no soy muy amante de las películas de Sofía Carson porque siento que no logro conectar con los personajes que ella interpreta, pero debo decir que en esta película aunque suele tener una actitud parecida a sus anteriores trabajos, me pareció que lo hizo bastante bien y que logre sentir un poco de la conexión entre ella y el protagonista que lo interpreta Corey Mylchreest.

I didn't have the slightest idea about this story or the book where the adaptation comes from. I knew it was a romance story and from some spoilers that I didn't look for, I saw that there was also drama within the story but I didn't quite know what it was about and it managed to surprise me even though it's not a new theme in movies, we've already seen other movies where drama of this style arises while navigating a romance that has an expiration date at least earthly. However, I had little desire to see it since I am not a big fan of Sofia Carson's movies because I feel that I fail to connect with the characters she plays, but I must say that in this film although she usually has a similar attitude to her previous works, I thought she did quite well and I managed to feel a bit of connection between her and the protagonist played by Corey Mylchreest.

La historia es bastante bonita, tiene un encanto que se demuestra desde las primeras escenas donde vemos un lugar muy británico y lleno de espacios con la arquitectura de casas de personas con dinero y muy de época. Además, muestran a detalle cada momento en como se va construyendo la relación entre Anna y Jamie quienes a pesar de venir de lugares diferentes, siendo Anna de los Estados Unidos y Jamie del país británico dónde ambos tienen cosas que los diferencian pero que hacen que se interesen mucho más en el otro. Jamie es un joven que tiene historia de ser mujeriego según los que dicen que lo conocen, tiene un porte de galán y de ser muy amante de enseñar a los otros su pasión por la literatura y la poesía y esto resalta en la película, así que fue esto algo de lo que hizo que Anna se sintiera completamente atraída hacia el además de que le parecía ridículamente gracioso y en pequeños encuentros empieza una especia de relación que desde el comienzo Jamie le recalca que es solo para divertirse y aunque sonaba mal desde el comienzo pienso que fue su manera de que las cosas no escalaran y la relación se volviera más seria.

The story is quite nice, it has a charm that is demonstrated from the first scenes where we see a very British place and full of spaces with the architecture of houses of people with money and very vintage. In addition, they show in detail every moment in how the relationship between Anna and Jamie is building, who despite coming from different places, being Anna from the United States and Jamie from the British country where both have things that differentiate them but that make them much more interested in each other. Jamie is a young man who has a history of being a womanizer according to those who say they know him, he has a gallant bearing and is very fond of teaching others his passion for literature and poetry and this stands out in the film, so this was something that made Anna feel completely attracted to him and she found him ridiculously funny and in small encounters they started a kind of relationship that from the beginning Jamie emphasizes that it is just for fun and although it sounded bad from the beginning I think it was his way to keep things from escalating and the relationship became more serious.

Hay mucho amor del que te hace sentir como en un libro, ambos recorren lugares que Anna no conocía y crean memorias que podrán guardar por siempre en sus corazones, me gustó que el protagonista fuera diferente y no el típico chico malo, aunque por fuera se viera un poco de este tipo, no tenía nada más alejado que esa etiqueta y pude disfrutar de su forma tan agradable de acercarse a Anna de manera chistosa y con momentos que los avergonzaban a ambos, cómo cuando hacen karaoke y el tiene que cantar una canción Coldplay, esa escena fue una de mis favoritas y me encantó que el soundtrack estuviera tan variado que hasta una canción en español salió en una escena. Pero la que me mató fue la escena donde Anna y Jamie están juntos y empieza a sonar Kaleidoscope de Chappell Roan, se sintió muy lindo y a la vez sumamente triste porque está canción tiene una forma de hacer que llores o te sientas atrapado con la letra y la melodiosa voz de Chappell, en esa escena casi lloré porque me dió mucho sentimiento.

There is a lot of love that makes you feel like in a book, they both go to places that Anna didn't know and create memories that they can keep forever in their hearts, I liked that the main character was different and not the typical bad boy, even if he looked a little bit like that on the outside, I could enjoy his nice way of approaching Anna in a funny way and with moments that embarrassed them both, like when they do karaoke and he has to sing a Coldplay song, that scene was one of my favorites and I loved that the soundtrack was so varied that even a song in Spanish came out in a scene. But the one that killed me was the scene where Anna and Jamie are together and Chappell Roan's Kaleidoscope starts playing, it felt very cute and at the same time extremely sad because this song has a way of making you cry or feel trapped with the lyrics and Chappell's melodious voice, in that scene I almost cried because it gave me so much feeling.

El ambiente es sumamente bonito cómo de una historia de amor de otra época, la relación entre Anna y Jamie es de esas que comienzan por la atracción a primera vista y que luego escala debido a las cosas que tienen en común y la pasión con la que viven cada uno su vida, pero está el hecho de que el drama si es algo que cambia la historia y la convierte en una triste pero muy real, hay una situación que hace que las cosas giren y que todo tome un rumbo diferente, sabiendo que lo mejor es disfrutar del ahora y que siempre debemos aprovechar los momentos que tenemos con los seres que amamos, esa fue una gran lección que me dejó la película, es bastante triste pero sucede con frecuencia y es algo que debemos aceptar aunque nos duela, el hecho de tener que aceptar que no todo dura para siempre y que aunque esto sea así, no por eso debemos dejar de luchar por nuestros sueños ni dejar de vivir lo que soñamos.

The atmosphere is extremely nice how of a love story from another era, the relationship between Anna and Jamie is one of those that begin by attraction at first sight and then scales due to the things they have in common and the passion with which each one lives his life, but there is the fact that the drama if something that changes the story and makes it a sad but very real, there is a situation that makes things turn and everything takes a different course, knowing that the best thing is to enjoy the now and that we should always take advantage of the moments we have with the ones we love, that was a great lesson that the movie left me, it is quite sad but it happens often and it is something we must accept even if it hurts us, the fact of having to accept that not everything lasts forever and that although this is so, we should not stop fighting for our dreams or stop living what we dream.

Debo decir que me gustó más de lo que pensaba, fue una historia bonita y me atrapó por completo el soundtrack y los personajes que complementan la historia, además me llamó la atención lo de que es una adaptación de un libro y sería bonito leer el libro para verlo desde la perspectiva del autor, aunque la sensación de leer el libro antes de ver la película es algo que no tiene comparación. Si están buscando una historia de amor con un estilo de romance de libro, esta podría gustarles y aunque tiene ese toque de drama se puede disfrutar de todas maneras, yo lo hice y aunque no me hizo llorar si me dió sentimiento ver cómo terminó, pero en si la historia es hermosa y los actores tienen una química que se siente después de que se conocen más. 🥹

I must say that I liked it more than I thought I would, it was a nice story and I was completely caught by the soundtrack and the characters that complement the story, also it caught my attention that it is an adaptation of a book and it would be nice to read the book to see it from the author's perspective, although the feeling of reading the book before watching the movie is something that has no comparison. If you are looking for a love story with a book romance style, you might like this one and although it has that touch of drama you can enjoy it anyway, I did and although it didn't make me cry it did give me feeling to see how it ended, but in itself the story is beautiful and the actors have a chemistry that you feel after they get to know each other more. 🥹
