Film Review: My Secret Santa | Difficult decisions for Christmas dreams 🎅🏻 [ESP/ENG]

Hola amigos de la comunidad de Movies & Tv, espero que estén pasando una bonita Navidad. Entre las películas que tenía ganas de ver y que están muy de moda en esta época son las navideñas, no es de mis géneros favoritos o de las que me suelen gustar pero vi una ayer con mi mamá que realmente me gustó y fue estrenada hace poco. Las películas de diciembre suelen ser de unión, de amor y de armonía, tienen el mensaje de llevar un poco de alegría y confort a las familias que se divierten viendo este tipo de películas, la que les contare es una historia tal vez cliché pero que tiene cosas positivas que me llevaron a que me gustara mucho la película, así que los invito a leer más ❤️🌲.

La trama nos cuenta la historia de una mujer llamada Taylor Jacobson (Alexandra Breckenridge) quién tiene una sola hija adolescente la cual es su adoracion y su orgullo, ya su hija está próxima a decidir que quiere hacer con su futuro y una de las cosas que siempre le ha fascinado es el esquí sobre hielo. Sorpresivamente reciben una carta de un centro de esquí que la invita a ser parte de su escuela, pero hay un problema y es que Taylor tiene pocos recursos para poder pagarle a su hija la matrícula que sale bastante costosa, por lo que busca opciones para poder inscribir a su hija cueste lo que cueste, ya que sabe que ese es el sueño de su vida y ella hará lo imposible por permitirle vivir su sueños. En búsqueda de un trabajo, se encuentra con la oportunidad de trabajar como Santa Claus para la escuela de esquí a la que quiere ir su hija, el problema es que debe fingir ser hombre el tiempo que sea necesario. ¿Será descubierta en el intento?

La película es muy bonita, tiene a una madre que hace todo lo que puede por darle a su hija una mejor vida y que ella pueda cumplir los sueños que como madre Taylor no pudo lograr, entre ellos seguir siendo cantante de una banda cuando era más joven y de la que nunca habla con nadie hasta que conoce a Matthew Layne (Ryan Eggold) un hombre que llama su atención en una tienda de discos y con el que entabla una conversación. Ambos sienten una chispa de inmediato e intentan seguir en contacto para tener una relación de amistad. En medio de todo el conflicto Taylor toma la decisión de fingir ser Santa Claus para conseguir el dinero y poder pagar la matrícula y las clases de su hija.

Todo el ambiente se da en ambientes de nieve y muchas decoraciones navideñas, entre árboles con luces y hermosos colores y muchas personas celebrando en el pueblo estas fechas. Para la empresa es importante encontrar a un Santa Claus y Taylor cuando comienza su doble-vida como Santa, encuentra que todos se sienten felices de tenerle, de encontrar en ella una persona especial, con un carisma muy raro de ver y siempre con las palabras acertadas para cada niño aunque al comienzo fue un poco torpe y les decía cosas bastante directas como que ese tipo de regalos que querían no los podían pedir jaja, pero fue muy entretenido de ver.

Las clases de la hija de Taylor comienzan muy bien aunque ella está algo fuera de su zona de confort, ya que se encuentra con un grupo de chicas bastante malas y que la tratan de lo peor, pero ella sigue adelante sin prestar mucha atención. En medio de todo este drama la presencia de Santa se hace un lugar y empieza a conocer el ambiente en el que está su hija y se da cuenta que la niña que la molesta realmente está pasándola muy mal, tiene problemas con sus padres y aunque no es una justificación, Santa consigue su confianza y le da unas palabras que pueda reconfortarla recordándole que ella es una buena chica solo que no ha tenido la oportunidad de ser escuchada y aprender a gestionar sus emociones.

La diversión está en la forma en que Taylor se disfraza de Santa y tiene que participar en una reunión de navidad siendo Taylor ya que empieza a salir con Matthew y este quiere que ella lo acompañe. En ese día todo está de cabeza, Taylor tiene que recurrir a la ayuda de su hermano y su pareja para poder cambiarse y ser tanto Santa Claus como Taylor en el mismo lugar. Hay idas al baño y un montón de momentos incómodos que llevan al final a la revelación de la verdad. Tiene un buen final como es lo esperado en estas películas, pero me gustaron las actuaciones, la trama de la película estuvo divertida y en general me entretuve bastante viéndola, espero que puedan verla y que me dejen saber si les gusto. They’re not exactly my favorite genre or the ones I usually enjoy, but I watched one yesterday with my mom that I really liked, and it was released recently. December movies are usually about togetherness, love, and harmony; they carry the message of bringing a bit of joy and comfort to families who enjoy watching this type of film. The one I’m going to tell you about is perhaps a cliché story, but it has positive elements that made me enjoy it a lot, so I invite you to keep reading ❤️🌲.

The plot tells the story of a woman named Taylor Jacobson (Alexandra Breckenridge), who has a teenage daughter who is her pride and joy. Her daughter is about to decide what she wants to do with her future, and one of the things she has always been fascinated by is ice skiing. Unexpectedly, they receive a letter from a ski center inviting her to be part of their school, but there’s a problem: Taylor has very limited resources and can’t afford the tuition, which is quite expensive. So she looks for options to enroll her daughter no matter what, because she knows it’s her lifelong dream, and she will do anything to let her live it. While searching for a job, she comes across the opportunity to work as Santa Claus for the ski school her daughter wants to attend. The problem is that she must pretend to be a man for as long as necessary. Will she be discovered?

The movie is very sweet. It features a mother who does everything she can to give her daughter a better life and help her achieve the dreams Taylor herself couldn’t fulfill—among them continuing as a singer in a band when she was younger, something she never talks about until she meets Matthew Layne (Ryan Eggold), a man who catches her attention in a record store and with whom she starts a conversation. They both feel an instant spark and try to stay in touch to build a friendship. Amid all the conflict, Taylor decides to pretend to be Santa Claus to earn the money needed to pay for her daughter’s tuition and classes.

The whole setting takes place in snowy environments with lots of Christmas decorations—trees with lights, beautiful colors, and many people in town celebrating the season. For the company, finding a Santa Claus is important, and when Taylor begins her double life as Santa, she discovers that everyone is happy to have her, seeing in her someone special, with a rare kind of charisma and always the right words for each child. Although at first she was a bit clumsy and told them very direct things like that they couldn’t ask for those kinds of gifts haha, it was very entertaining to watch.

Taylor’s daughter’s classes start off well, although she’s somewhat out of her comfort zone because she encounters a group of mean girls who treat her terribly. Still, she keeps going without paying much attention. Amid all this drama, Santa’s presence becomes meaningful, and she begins to understand the environment her daughter is in. She realizes that the girl who bullies her is actually going through a very hard time, has problems with her parents, and although it’s not an excuse, Santa earns her trust and gives her comforting words, reminding her that she is a good girl who simply hasn’t had the chance to be heard or learn how to manage her emotions.

The fun part is how Taylor disguises herself as Santa while also having to attend a Christmas gathering as Taylor, since she has started dating Matthew and he wants her to accompany him. That day everything is chaotic—Taylor has to rely on her brother and his partner to help her switch between being Santa Claus and being Taylor in the same place. There are bathroom trips and lots of awkward moments that eventually lead to the truth being revealed. It has a good ending, as expected in these types of movies, but I really liked the performances, the plot was fun, and overall I enjoyed watching it a lot.
