Film Review: The Devil Wears Prada 2 | A completely unexpected turn of events 📸🫢 [ENG/ESP]

Hello, hello friends of Movies & TV, I hope you are having a great day. The Devil Wears Prada 2 was released recently and I was very curious to watch it. I watched the first movie earlier this year, even though it is quite old, and I don't know why I hadn't seen it before. The truth is, the main plot of the movie didn't catch my attention enough to watch it, but thanks to my sister's recommendation and a university assignment where I had to watch the first film, I decided to give it a try. I liked it, though not as much as many other people do. Watching comedy movies is not really my thing, which is probably why I hadn't taken the time to watch it before, but I did have a huge curiosity to see part two. So, I invite you to read my review of The Devil Wears Prada 2.

The plot brings us back to reunite with Andy Sachs (Anne Hathaway), who is now a woman with a stronger, more mature personality. She has the experience of a woman who has gone through the job she always wanted as a journalist: Being a writer and being able to show the most important things in the world from her perspective. However, after a breakdown in her company, she is left completely helpless, jobless, and facing the stress of having to start all over again. What she didn't expect was that destiny would cross her path with her former boss, Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep). They find themselves in a situation that is extremely strange for both of them, but it forces them to team up once again, mostly to save what is left of the old Runway magazine, which was quite popular until the changes that came with the rise of social media.

I must say that I actually liked this second part more than the first one, maybe because it felt more dynamic and had a bit more production value. Of course, more than ten years have passed since the first movie, so in this second part, they had to make the film better while keeping at least the main actors—and fortunately, they did. We have Anne Hathaway back, now portraying Andy as a more free and confident woman. She proves with every step she takes, and especially with every problem that arises during the movie, that she is more than willing to always dignify her work, whether as a writer or by going back to being Miranda Priestly's assistant.

In the movie, we find ourselves back at the company, which is now a bit more luxurious and filled with new employees who are strangely being treated better than the previous ones (Andy in the first movie is a perfect example of that). Miranda is older now, which is noticeable in her working style; her pace has dropped significantly compared to how she used to manage things. Although she hasn't left her egocentrism aside, it is much less noticeable. However, she seems more down; the years have taken a toll on both her and the company. Many changes have emerged, which has led her to change her temperament and even forced her to ask Andy for help because Runway is about to be buried. But as always, Meryl Streep did an impeccable job.

The years that have passed between both movies are highly noticeable, especially in the way the scenes were shot and how everything looks more modern and sophisticated; you can tell there was a significant production effort to make this sequel. I loved that they kept the main cast, including Nigel (Stanley Tucci) and Emily (Emily Blunt). This is very important throughout the film because it wouldn't have been the same without them, and the sequel might have turned out terrible. I like that Nigel now has more support from Miranda; there is even a specific scene where it is very heartwarming to see them having a quite sensitive conversation.

As for Emily, well, she definitely had a major character development in every single way. Basically, her life changed so much that she no longer works for Miranda and doesn't need to have a boss because she already has everything, or at least almost everything. Emily's character is crucial for the plot development, as she represents both the problem and the solution to the conflict over power and management at Runway. I loved this about the movie: seeing her as a different woman who can play the villain but then recognize her mistakes and accept their consequences. For me, this part of the story was the most important in the film; it even surprised me because everything that happened was completely unexpected.

If you were hoping to see a continuation that is different from what we saw in the first film, I invite you to see the second part for yourselves. It is quite long, just like the first one, but it is worth it. At least for me, it brought out a few laughs and even gave me some tension regarding the trouble Runway had gotten into. It was exciting to see actresses like Anne Hathaway, Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci together again; I truly feel it is a very iconic movie that deserved to have a sequel. The music is also very fun, featuring songs that fit the current era perfectly, especially within the female pop genre. This makes the story feel fresher and more attuned to what we listen to and see on social media every day.

Hace poco se estrenó El Diablo viste a la Moda 2 y tenía mucha curiosidad por verla, la primera película la vi a principios de este año aunque era bastante vieja y no sé por qué no la vi antes. El hecho es que la trama principal de la película no me llamaba lo suficiente como para verla, pero por recomendación de mi hermana y una tarea que tuve para la universidad donde tenía que ver la primera película, decidí que lo haría y me gustó aunque no tanto como a muchas personas. Lo mío no es ver películas de comedia, tal vez por eso no me había tomado el tiempo de ver esta película, pero si tenía una gran curiosidad por ver la parte dos. Así que los invito a leer mi reseña de El Diablo viste a la Moda 2.

La trama nos lleva de nuevo a reencontrarnos con Andy Saschs (Anne Hathaway) quién ahora es una mujer con una personalidad más fuerte, más madura y tiene la experiencia de una mujer que ha pasado por el trabajo que siempre había deseado cómo periodista: Ser escritora y poder mostrar desde su punto de vista las cosas más importantes del mundo. Sin embargo, luego de un quiebre en su empresa queda totalmente desamparada, sin trabajo y con el estrés de tener que empezar de nuevo. Lo que no esperaba es que su destino la cruzara con su antigua jefa Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep). En una situación que para ambas es extremadamente extraña pero que hace, que se vuelvan a unir como un equipo más que todo para salvar lo que queda de la vieja revista Runway la cual fue bastante popular hasta los cambios que ocurrieron después del auge de las redes sociales.

Debo decir que realmente me gustó más esta segunda parte que la primera, tal vez porque fue más dinámica y hubo un poco más de producción. Claro, ya han pasado más de diez años de la primera película, en esta segunda parte tenían que hacer que la película fuese mejor y que se mantuvieran al menos los actores principales, y por suerte así fue. Tenemos de nuevo a Anne Hathaway ahora interpretando a Andy como una mujer más libre y segura, que demuestra en cada paso que da, pero sobre todo en cada problema que surge durante la película, que está más que dispuesta a dejar siempre en alto su trabajo sea siendo escritora o volviendo a ser ayudante de Miranda Priestly.

En la película nos encontramos de nuevo en la empresa un poco más lujosa, llena de nuevos empleados que están siendo extrañamente mejor tratados que los anteriores (Andy en la primera película es una demostración perfecta). Miranda ahora tiene más edad lo que se nota en su forma de trabajar que baja muchísimo al estilo que llevaba antes, aunque no deja de lado su egocentrismo, pero es mucho menos notorio. Pero está más decaída, los años han pasado por ella y por la empresa, son muchos los cambios que han surgido y lo que la ha llevado a cambiar su temperamento incluso a tener que pedirle ayuda a Andy porque Runway está por quedar sepultada, pero como siempre Meryl Streep hizo un trabajo impecable.

Los años que han pasado entre ambas películas se notan muchísimo, sobre todo en la forma de grabar las escenas y cómo todo es más moderno y sofisticado, se ve que hubo bastante producción para hacer esta secuela. Me gusto que mantuvieran al elenco principal, incluyendo a Nigel (Stanley Tucci) y a Emily (Emily Blunt), esto es muy importante durante la película porque sin ellos no hubiese sido lo mismo y tal vez la continuación hubiera quedado pésima. Me gusta que ahora Nigel tiene más apoyo por parte de Miranda, incluso hay una escena en específico donde es muy adorable ver cómo tienen una conversación bastante sensible.

En cuanto a Emily, pues ella si que tuvo un gran desarrollo de personaje pero en todos los sentidos. Básicamente su vida cambió tanto que ya no trabaja para Miranda y no necesita tener un jefe porque ya lo tiene todo, o al menos casi todo. El personaje de Emily es crucial para que el desarrollo de la historia se de, ya que ella es el problema y también la solución al conflicto que existe por el poder y la gerencia de Runway. Esto me encantó de la película, verla como una mujer diferente que puede ser villana pero luego reconocer sus errores y aceptar las consecuencias de estos. Para mi esta parte de la historia fue la más importante de la película, incluso me sorprendió porque fue inesperado para mí todo lo que sucedió.

Si esperaban por ver una continuación diferente a lo que se vio en la primera película, pues los invito a que vean por ustedes mismos la segunda parte. Es bastante larga como la primera pero vale la pena, al menos a mi me sacó unas cuantas risas y hasta me dió tensión dentro del problema en que se había metido Runway. Fue emocionante ver de nuevo a actrices como Anne Hathaway, Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt y Stanley Tucci juntos, realmente siento que es una película muy icónica que merecía tener una secuela. La música también es divertidísima con canciones muy de la época actual sobre todo en el género del pop femenino. Eso hace que la historia se sienta más fresca y que se sienta más acorde a lo que escuchamos y vemos por las redes en el día a día.
