Hola amigos de la comunidad de Movies & Tv, espero se encuentren muy bien. Hace unos días ví una película que me llamo la atención por el titulo y por la trama, es de esas historias que muchas veces se viven pero que por temor a ser juzgado sobre todo porque está enfocada en una mujer y en la maternidad en general, afecta la forma en la que puede ser vista la mujer en la sociedad que siempre espera que sean las mejores madres, las más atentas y las que siempre están presentes... En esta historia sucede lo contrario y puede dejar un mensaje bastante importante cómo el de que todos somos humanos y cada acción tiene una consecuencia, así le sucede a la protagonista y me gustaría contarles que me pareció este film que fue bastante intenso y con una historia que puede llegar a incomodar.

Hello friends of the Movies & TV community, I hope you are all doing well. A few days ago, I saw a movie that caught my attention because of its title and plot. It's one of those stories that often happen in real life but, due to fear of being judged, especially because it focuses on a woman and motherhood in general, it affects the way women are viewed in a society that always expects them to be the best mothers, the most attentive, and always present... In this story, the opposite happens, and it can leave a very important message, such as that we are all human and every action has a consequence. This is what happens to the protagonist, and I would like to tell you what I thought of this film, which was quite intense and had a story that can be uncomfortable to watch.

La trama de The Lost Daughter va directamente hacia la vida de Leda (Olivia Colman) una mujer en sus cuarentas que decide irse de vacaciones a una isla griega, aquí pretende pasar algunos días de relajación mientras disfruta de su momento de soledad y de el ambiente que ofrece el lugar; lleno de playas y de muchos lugares para turistas. Pero la historia se empieza a torcer un poco cuando Leda ve a una familia numerosa llegar a la isla y tiene pequeños recuerdos de su pasado, de la crianza que tuvieron sus hijas y de la madre que fue cuando era una joven que a penas estaba empezando a vivir y a descubrir su lado profesional y también su sexualidad; está claro que hay muchas cosas que Leda aún no ha podido superar con el paso de los años y la estadía en esta isla solo hará que las emociones crezcan tanto positivas como algunas muy negativas.

The plot of The Lost Daughter focuses directly on the life of Leda (Olivia Colman), a woman in her forties who decides to go on vacation to a Greek island. Here, she intends to spend a few relaxing days enjoying her solitude and the atmosphere offered by the place, which is full of beaches and many tourist attractions. But the story begins to take a turn when Leda sees a large family arrive on the island and has small flashbacks of her past, of raising her daughters, and of the mother she was when she was a young woman just beginning to live and discover her professional side and her sexuality. It is clear that there are many things that Leda has not yet been able to overcome over the years, and her stay on this island will only cause her emotions to grow, both positive and some very negative.

Para comenzar la historia está basada en una novela escrita por Elena Ferrante y Maggie Gyllenhaal decidió hacer la adaptación; iniciando asi su debut como directora y creo que es la única película hasta ahora que ella ha dirigido y de hecho lo hizo bastante bien, la película tiene algunos detalles pero en general lo que intenta transmitir como: egoísmo, deseo, infidelidad, culpa, miedos, traumas, lo hace de la manera más creíble y la actriz que interpreta a Leda; Olivia Colman es una mujer que tiene mucho talento y que desde el comienzo de la película se siente que tiene una historia fuerte que contar acerca de si misma.

To begin with, the story is based on a novel written by Elena Ferrante, and Maggie Gyllenhaal decided to adapt it, thus making her directorial debut. I believe it is the only film she has directed so far, and she did quite well. The film has some details, but in general, what it tries to convey, such as selfishness, desire, infidelity, guilt, fears, and traumas, it does so in the most credible way. The actress who plays Leda, Olivia Colman, is a very talented woman, and from the beginning of the film, you feel that she has a powerful story to tell about herself.

El libro no lo he leído pero hay muy buenas reseñas sobre esta película en internet y es totalmente verdad, la historia tiene un mensaje muy fuerte que incluso puede llegar a hacerte sentir desprecio y compasión por el personaje de Leda; siendo una mujer que muy joven quedó embarazada dos veces de dos niñas que eran su vida entera y que llenaron de felicidad su vida como también la del padre, pero siempre se vio que batallaba mucho con la crianza de ambas sobre todo porque había una de las niñas que parecía sentir cierto rechazo hacia Leda por creer que tenía preferencias entre las pequeñas, cosa que era totalmente equivocado pero que de alguna manera se daban ocasiones en que ponía mucho más atención en una que en la otra.

I haven't read the book, but there are very good reviews of this film on the internet, and it's absolutely true: the story has a very powerful message that can even make you feel contempt and compassion for the character of Leda. She is a woman who became pregnant twice at a very young age with two girls who were her whole life and filled her life with happiness, as well as that of their father. However, it was always clear that she struggled greatly with raising them, especially because one of the girls seemed to feel a certain rejection towards Leda, believing that she favored one of the girls over the other, which was completely wrong, but somehow there were occasions when she paid much more attention to one than the other.

El que aparezca está familia en una isla en medio de la nada es algo que complica los sentimientos que ya venía arrastrando con los años; porque ve a una joven madre con su hija teniendo problemas de comunicación y tal vez reflejando lo que ella misma pasó con sus hijas. Esto despierta aquel fantasma de la culpa que siente por las cosas que hizo y las que no; llevándola a un lugar muy oscuro de su memoria en la que recuerda ser una mujer llena de aspiraciones, de sueños, de alegría pero que se sintió desbordada con una familia que era hermosa pero que tal vez no era lo que ella buscaba para su vida, pero al final ya tenía a sus hijas y no podía dejarlas de lado o salirse de la situación como si se tratase de una situación cualquiera.

The appearance of this family on an island in the middle of nowhere complicates the feelings she has been carrying with her for years, because she sees a young mother with her daughter having communication problems, perhaps reflecting what she herself went through with her daughters. This awakens the ghost of guilt she feels for the things she did and did not do, taking her to a very dark place in her memory where she remembers being a woman full of aspirations, dreams, and joy, but who felt overwhelmed by a family that was beautiful but perhaps not what she wanted for her life. In the end, however, she already had her daughters and couldn't just leave them behind or walk away from the situation as if it were just any other situation.

Las escenas se van intercalando entre el presente y los acontecimientos que van sucediendo y los recuerdos del pasado; cada interacción que tiene Leda con la familia que está en la isla hace que ella desee de alguna manera remediar lo que hizo pero que ya no tiene remedio. Ella ve en la joven madre a ella misma, la que alguna vez fue una mujer que dejó de lado a su familia por seguir sus sueños profesionales, por un hombre que conoció y que la enamoró, por la pasión que sentía cuando estaba con él y por el descubrimiento de su propia feminidad. Todo esto fue el cumulo de cosas que hicieron que ella se apartara de sus hijas causando obviamente distancia entre ellas aunque nunca las llegan a mostrar como tal interactuando en la película.

The scenes alternate between the present and the events unfolding, and memories of the past; every interaction Leda has with the family on the island makes her want to somehow remedy what she did, but it is already too late. She sees herself in the young mother, the woman she once was who left her family behind to pursue her professional dreams, for a man she met and fell in love with, for the passion she felt when she was with him, and for the discovery of her own femininity. All of this was the culmination of things that caused her to distance herself from her daughters, obviously creating a rift between them, although this is never shown as such in their interactions in the film.

Tanto la dirección de Maggie Gyllenhaal como la elección de Olivia Colman para el personaje de Leda fue algo muy acertado y que logró que la película causara el impacto que dejó en los muchos que la hemos visto. Esta historia es para verla con la mente abierta, con la idea de que estás mirando la historia de alguien que no conoces pero que podrías ser tu o alguien muy cercano que aprecias. Es difícil encontrarse en la situación en la que estaba Leda, siendo mujer y no poder elegir lo que te llena porque estarías defraudando el otro lado que es ser madre, para mí estuvo bastante mal lo que hizo pero siento que no podría juzgarla porque solo ella podria saber la angustia que sentía al estar en una situación que no quería; aunque fuese ella misma la que tomo las decisiones para llegar allí.

Both Maggie Gyllenhaal's direction and the casting of Olivia Colman as Leda were spot on, ensuring that the film had the impact it did on the many of us who saw it. This story should be viewed with an open mind, with the idea that you are watching the story of someone you don't know but who could be you or someone very close to you whom you care about. It's difficult to find yourself in the situation Leda was in, being a woman and not being able to choose what fulfills you because you would be letting down the other side of yourself, which is being a mother. For me, what she did was pretty bad, but I feel like I couldn't judge her because only she could know the anguish she felt being in a situation she didn't want to be in, even if she was the one who made the decisions to get there.
