A story with dark undertones - Review: El internado: las cumbres | 2021 | [Eng/Esp]

It had been a long time since I had seen a series and rarely movies, that's why I had stopped sharing reviews in this community for so long, but lately my girlfriend has been recommending me series, some that we end up watching together and others that she has already seen and wants me to see them too, as she has very good tastes for interesting stories, I give them a chance and today I want to make a small review of the last one I've seen, let's talk about the Spanish series “El internado: las cumbres”.

As I mentioned before, this is a Spanish series premiered on February 19, 2021, it belongs to the genre of suspense, mystery and teen drama. In this series we will enter a boarding school for teenagers with problems, but this boarding school is not like any other, it is located in a fairly isolated place, which allows the method of discipline is quite strict, coming to happen things out of the ordinary. Due to the strictness of the boarding school, some of the boarders decide to escape, but some things do not go well and only two of them (Amaia and Manuel) manage to leave the boarding school and fleeing to a forest, in which Manuel ends up being kidnapped by a mysterious figure with a mask, Amaia returns and together with his friends will try to find him.
What happens in this series?
Let's talk a little bit about what happens in the first episode. The series begins with some crows (this will be related to a lot in the series) that end up arriving at the boarding school las cumbres. This place full of many teenagers with problems, which they will discover as the episodes progress. Not two minutes have passed and there are already students fighting, but it's all part of a plan to get money hidden in the headmistress' office. This boarding school is so strict that the two students who were fighting as punishment are locked in a place called “the refrigerators”, which is a kind of dungeon room where they are made to stay there alone for a long time to “reflect on what they have done”.

We will meet the main characters, the students Adele and her brother Paul, Manuel, Amaia, who are planning to escape from the boarding school. Little by little we observe how things are handled at the boarding school, how there is even a kind of market with the inmates, since being such a strict place they must do things in a hidden way. There are characters that at first glance are seen as the villains and these are obviously the teachers of the boarding school (not all, but it is clear to know which one is) and the director, but little by little the characters will continue to add.
The story continues to advance exponentially, we keep evidencing how strict the boarding school is and why the students want to escape from there, they are all troubled kids and this just makes the boarding school a pretty explosive place. So, after having everything prepared the 4 students I mentioned at the beginning decide to escape, their plan is quite functional, but Adele at the last minute can't leave, she is afraid and decides to stay, so Paul can't leave her alone and stays, but tells Amaia and Manuel to go on and enjoy the freedom for them.

Amaia and Manuel are discovered while trying to escape, but they still manage to do it, not the way they had planned, but they manage to get into the forest. Once there, they both think that the hardest part is over, but by accident Manuel stumbles, falls down a kind of cliff and ends up hitting his head, so he ends up unconscious, Amaia does not find the way down, but instantly a strange figure approaches Manuel, a man dressed in black and wearing a mask as if he were a plague doctor, which gives a terrifying aspect.
Amaia not knowing what to do, tries to look for help, so she goes back to the road, sees a car and makes signs to it, but they turn out to be the boarding school teachers who are looking for her, so they catch her, they don't believe anything she tells them and just return her to the boarding school. There she talks to her friends, who also do not believe what Amaia says, because it is certainly a difficult situation to believe, but once they do, they decide to investigate in search of clues to find her friend Manuel.

My opinion about the series
From this point on I will only talk about my opinion regarding the series, I will do it without spoilers, just my perspective if it is worth it. Let's start with the story, personally it started a little slow, I mean, it's hard to understand at the beginning what is really happening, but once the plot develops is when everything becomes very interesting. I personally am a lover of stories with mysteries and a lot of suspense, which is appreciated from the first episode.
Something that I question a lot of the Spanish series (in the ones I have seen) is that they have a lot of sex scenes or similar that honestly do not add much to the plot, I would say that if they were not there it would not change anything, but I also understand that, being a story of teenagers, it is understandable that this also deals with that aspect of teenagers with altered hormones, but honestly I think they are left over, they are not as explicit scenes as other series, that's the good thing.

Talking a little about the characters I find them interesting, the reason for this is because of the great difference between each of them, at the beginning I mentioned that they are teenagers with problems, so it is entertaining to see how this kind of conflicts between the characters ends up making things difficult, so it is necessary to change certain aspects or even make them worse, which in certain occasions is understandable because of the place where they are, all this is a set of situations ranging from real life to fantasy.
Personally it is a series that I recommend, I am currently in the third season (there are only three) and it seems to me that everything is increasing, a story that is simmering, I know I complained a little about it, but I can not deny that the more you advance, the more it ends up trapping you, either by its history, the characters, the moments full of tension or even by the fear that can generate some scenes, this is certainly very good.

In general terms I would tell you to give it a chance, personally I have not seen so many Spanish series as I have already said, but this is certainly one that I would watch again, because I would surely catch more things that they missed by not fully understand the things that were happening at the beginning, so, it is a good series if you have nothing to see, I'm sure you will not regret it, for me it is 4.5 out of 5 stars.

Hacía bastante tiempo que no me veía alguna serie y en pocas ocasiones películas, por eso había dejado de compartir reseñas en esta comunidad por tanto tiempo, pero últimamente mi novia me ha estado recomendando series, algunas que terminamos viendo juntos y otras que ya ella ha visto y quiere que yo las vea también, como tiene muy buenos gustos para las historias interesantes, les doy una oportunidad y el día de hoy quiero hacerles una pequeña reseña de la última que he visto, hablemos de la serie española “El internado: las cumbres”.

Como mencioné anteriormente, esta es una serie española estrenada el 19 de febrero de 2021, pertenece al género del suspenso, misterio y drama adolescente. En esta serie nos adentraremos en un internado para adolescentes con problemas, pero este internado no es como cualquier otro, se encuentra en un lugar bastante aislado, lo que permite que el método de disciplina sea bastante estricto, llegando a suceder cosas fuera de lo normal. Debido a lo estricto del internado, algunos de los internados deciden escapar, pero algunas cosas no marchan bien y solo dos de ellos (Amaia y Manuel) consiguen salir del internado y huyendo a un bosque, en el cual Manuel termina siendo secuestrado por una figura misteriosa con una máscara, Amaia regresa y junto a sus amigos intentarán encontrarle.
¿Qué sucede en la película?
Hablemos un poco de lo que sucede en el primer episodio. La serie comienza con unos cuervos (esto estará relacionado con mucho en la serie) que terminan llegando al internado las cumbres. Este lugar lleno de muchos adolescentes con problemas, los cuales irán descubriendo mientras más avancen los episodios. No han pasado dos minutos y ya hay estudiantes peleando, pero todo es parte de un plan para lograr conseguir dinero escondido en la oficina de la directora. Este internado es tan estricto que los dos estudiantes que estaban peleando como castigo son encerrados en un lugar llamado “las neveras”, el cual es una especie de cuarto calabozo donde les hacen estar allí solos por mucho tiempo para “reflexionar lo que han hecho”.

Iremos conociendo a los personajes principales, los estudiantes Adele y su hermano Paul, Manuel, Amaia, quienes están planeando escapar del internado. Poco a poco vamos observando cómo se manejan las cosas en el internado, el cómo incluso existe una especie de mercado con los internos, ya que al ser un lugar tan estricto deben hacer las cosas de forma escondida. Hay personajes que a primera instancia se ven como los villanos y estos evidentemente son los profesores del internado (no todos, pero es evidente saber cuál lo es) y la directora, pero poco a poco seguirán sumándose los personajes.
La historia sigue avanzando de manera exponencial, seguimos evidenciando lo estricto que es el internado y el por qué los estudiantes quieren escapar de allí, todos son chicos problemáticos y esto solo hace el internado un lugar bastante explosivo. Así, luego de tener todo preparado los 4 estudiantes que mencioné al principio deciden escapar, su plan es bastante funcional, pero Adele a último minuto no puede irse, tiene miedo y decide quedarse, por lo cual Paul no puede dejarla sola y se queda, pero le dice a Amaia y Manuel que sigan y disfruten de la libertad por ellos.

Amaia y Manuel son descubiertos al intentar escapar, pero aún así logran hacerlo, no de la forma que tenían planeada, pero consiguen adentrase en el bosque. Una vez allí, ambos creen que lo más difícil ha terminado, pero por accidente Manuel se tropieza, cae por una especie de acantilado y termina golpeando su cabeza, por lo que termina inconsciente, Amaia no encuentra la forma de bajar, pero al instante una figura extraña se acerca a Manuel, un hombre vestido de negro y llevando una máscara como si fuese un médico de la peste, lo cual da un aspecto aterrador.
Amaia sin saber qué hacer, intenta buscar ayuda, por lo que regresa a la carretera, ve un auto y le hace señas, pero resultan ser los profesores del internado que la están buscando, por lo cual la atrapan, no creen nada de lo que les dice y solo la regresan al internado. Allí ella habla con sus amigos, quienes tampoco creen lo que Amaia dice, porque ciertamente es una situación difícil de creer, pero una vez que lo hacen, deciden investigar en busca de pistas para encontrar a su amigo Manuel.

Mi opinión sobre la película
A partir de este punto hablaré solo de mi opinión con respecto a la serie, lo haré sin spoilers, solo mi perspectiva de si vale la pena. Comencemos con la historia, personalmente esta comenzó un poco lenta, quiero decir, cuesta un poco entender al principio lo que realmente está ocurriendo, pero una vez que la trama se desarrolla es cuando todo se vuelve muy interesante. Yo en lo personal soy un amante de las historias con misterios y mucho suspenso, lo cual se aprecia desde el primer episodio.
Algo que cuestiono mucho de las series españolas (en las que he visto) es que tienen una cantidad de escenas de sexo o similares que honestamente no aportan mucho a la trama, diría que si no estuvieran tampoco cambiaría nada, pero también entiendo que, al ser una historia de adolescentes, es entendible que esto trate también con ese aspecto de los adolescentes con las hormonas alteradas, pero honestamente me parece que sobran, no son escenas tan explicitas como otras series, eso es lo bueno.

Hablando un poco sobre los personajes me parece que son interesantes, la razón de esto es por la gran diferencia entre cada uno de ellos, al principio mencioné que son adolescentes con problemas, por lo cual resulta entretenido ver como este tipo de conflictos entre los personajes termina dificultando las cosas, por lo cual es necesario cambiar ciertos aspectos o incluso hacerlos peor, lo cual en ciertas ocasiones es entendible por el lugar en el que se encuentran, todo esto es un conjunto de situaciones que van desde la vida real hasta lo fantasioso.
Personalmente es una serie que recomiendo, actualmente me encuentro en la tercera temporada (son solo tres) y me parece que todo va en aumento, una historia que se va cocinando a fuego lento, sé que me quejé un poco de ello, pero no puedo negar que mientras más avanzas, más te termina atrapando, ya sea por su historia, los personajes, los momentos llenos de tensión o incluso por el miedo que pueden generar algunas escenas, esto sin duda es muy bueno.

En términos generales yo les diría que le den una oportunidad, personalmente no he visto tantas series españolas como ya he dicho, pero esta sin duda es una que volvería a ver, porque seguramente captaría más cosas que pasaron por alto al no entender del todo las cosas que iban sucediendo al principio, por lo que, es una buena serie si no tienen nada para ver, estoy seguro que no se van a arrepentir, para mí son 4.5 de 5 estrellas.
