A few weeks ago I had a desire to see the movie Wall-E again, a movie that I'm sure many people have seen, it was released in 2008 so we could say it's a bit old, but I think it remains a Disney classic. Something I want to talk about in this review and is more in line with some thoughts that the film generated in me, is if after so many years it is still as good, if the message of that time applies to the present, how much things have changed and many other curiosities that I will end up developing later, for now, let's start with the review.

The story of our friendly protagonist named Wall-e begins with a scene where we are shown an abandoned planet at first glance, full of pollution and huge piles of garbage, which are perfectly stacked by our beloved Wall-E, which is a robot designed to compact garbage, but although I mentioned that it looks like an abandoned planet, Wall-E is not alone, we are shown a kind of pet which is a cockroach that accompanies our protagonist, I must say that it is the first time in a movie whether animated or not, make me feel a deep love for a cockroach, it is very tender unlike what it usually generates in real life.

Wall-E routine is the same every day, activating himself, recharging his battery, collecting garbage, placing it inside to compact it and then stacking it forming large piles, at certain times he finds things that seem interesting, he keeps them in a small lunch box that he carries with him and then places these objects to classify them separately and enlarge his collection of objects and one of the things that Wall-E finds is a small plant growing and decides to keep it. At the end, in this journey back from his work to a kind of ship that is his home, we are shown in a hologram of an advertisement that makes us understand that all humans are on a cruise while compactor robots are responsible for cleaning all the garbage accumulated on the planet, noting that there were other robots similar to Wall-E so it was not the only one which fulfilled that job but it is the only one that remains active, all others stopped working perhaps a long time ago.

After returning home, he is captivated by a point of red light which ends up chasing and turned out to be the lights of a ship that lands and places a new robot, which once started begins to travel the site in search of something that is not specified until later, our beloved protagonist falls in love with the new robot that is named EVA. Once arrived at this point we could think that the plot of the film will be based on a kind of romantic comedy between robots, which indeed it is, because we are shown how little by little these two nice robots are getting closer to each other, until we discover what EVA was looking for when Wall-E shows him one of his acquisitions, the plant, EVA job was to find a sample of sustainable life for humans, so EVA goes into hibernation mode and the ship in which he had arrived returns to take it to the place where they come from.

Wall-E thinks that somehow they are kidnapping EVA so he decides to save her and so he embarks on an adventure on the cruise ship where the humans are, which have had an incredible change of appearance and is therefore dependent on the machines, so they are only dedicated to eat and entertain themselves to not be bored while the machines do everything. Once they check EVA the plant she had with her disappears and without her, there is no proof or sure reason for the humans to return to their true home, earth. Here the plot shifts from a robot love story to saving the future of humans and returning home.

Throughout the film we are told about the problems that led the earth to end up in that state, which were the rampant consumption, the lack of importance given to the environment and the same greed of large corporations to create a monopoly to control everything were decisive factors for the earth to become a giant garbage dump and humans had to flee into space to a cruise for a short time, which ends up being a lie because the cruise that should last 5 years became one of 700 years.

To think that this film was released in 2008 and it was already touching on the importance of the environment, dystopian futures of situations that could occur if something was not done to solve the problems and now in 2023 the subject has increased more and is still talking about the same thing, but to a much greater extent. Have we become aware since then? I would say that the answer is a sad no and the fact that a movie makes you think about how things are, how much has changed and not for the better makes you think about how a movie that seems to be children's entertainment, really keeps in itself a very strong message and that even today 15 years later is still valid.

Speaking of aspects of the film, it has many funny moments, jokes so simple but that work perfectly for the innocence of our protagonist, plus other good characters that also make the whole movie very enjoyable, from a small robot obsessed with cleaning, as some humans who become friends with Wall-E in such a funny and spontaneous way that has no waste, plus scenes to reflect and learn to value and care for what we have so that in the future it will still be there and we do not have to look for it elsewhere.

Wall-E is an old movie as I said before, but if for some reason you have not had the opportunity to see it, I highly recommend it, there is no waste, you will enjoy what I consider the best couple that Disney has, a very interesting story, a plot that catches you and an ending that certainly will not leave anyone dissatisfied. A movie to watch as a family, for children, teenagers and adults, regardless of age, it is enjoyed to perfection and that is what Disney has us so used to and more in their animated classics.

Hace algunas semanas atrás me nació un deseo por volver a ver la película de Wall-E, una película que estoy seguro muchas personas habrán visto, se estrenó en el 2008 por lo que podríamos decir que es algo vieja, pero considero que se mantiene como un clásico de Disney. Algo de lo que quiero hablar en esta reseña y va más acorde con unos pensamientos que me generó la película, es si después de tantos años sigue siendo igual de buena, si el mensaje de aquella época se aplica a la actual, cuánto han cambiado las cosas y muchas otras curiosidades que terminaré desarrollando más adelante, por ahora, empecemos con la reseña.

La historia de nuestro simpático protagonista llamado Wall-e empieza con una escena donde se nos muestra un planeta a primera vista abandonado, lleno de mucha contaminación y pilas gigantescas de basura, las cuales están perfectamente apiladas por nuestro querido Wall-E, el cuál es un robot diseñado para compactar basura, pero aunque mencioné que parece un planeta abandonado, Wall-E no se encuentra solo, se nos muestra una especie de mascota la cual es una cucaracha que acompaña a nuestro protagonista, debo decir que es la primera vez que en una película ya sea animada o no, me hacen sentir un amor profundo por una cucaracha, es muy tierna a diferencia de lo que suele generar en la vida real.

La rutina de Wall-E es la misma todos los días, activarse, recargar su batería, recoger basura, colocarla en su interior para compactarla y luego apilarla formando así grandes pilas, en ciertos momentos encuentra cosas que le parecen interesantes, las guarda en una pequeña lonchera que carga consigo y luego coloca estos objetos para clasificarlos por separado y agrandar su colección de objetos y una de las cosas que encuentra Wall-E es una pequeña planta creciendo y decide guardarla. Al finalizar, en este recorrido de regreso de su trabajo a una especie de nave que es su hogar, nos muestran en un holograma de una publicidad que nos hace entender que todos los humanos están en un crucero mientras los robots compactadores se encargan de limpiar toda la basura acumulada en el planeta, notando así que habían otros robots parecidos a Wall-E por lo que no era el único el cual cumplía con ese trabajo pero sí es el único que se mantiene activo, todos los demás dejaron de funcionar quizás hace mucho tiempo.

Luego de regresar a su casa, es cautivado por un punto de luz roja el cual termina persiguiendo y resultó ser las luces de una nave que aterriza y coloca un nuevo robot, el cual una vez iniciado empieza a recorrer el sitio en busca de algo que no se especifica hasta más adelante, nuestro querido protagonista se enamora del nuevo robot que tiene por nombre EVA. Una vez llegados a este punto podríamos pensar que la trama de la película se basará en una especie de comedia romántica entre robots, lo cual efectivamente es, porque nos enseñan como poco a poco estos dos simpáticos robots se van acercando el uno al otro, hasta que descubrimos qué era lo que EVA estaba buscando cuando Wall-E le muestra una de sus adquisiciones, la planta, el trabajo de EVA era encontrar una muestra de vida sustentable para los humanos, así EVA entra en modo de hibernación y la nave en la que había llegado regresa para llevarla al lugar de donde provienen.

Wall-E piensa que de alguna manera están secuestrando a EVA por lo que decide salvarla y así se embarca a una aventura en el crucero donde se encuentran los humanos, los cuales han tenido un cambio de apariencia increíble y es por tanto depender de las maquinas, por lo que ellos sólo se dedican a comer y entretenerse para no estar aburridos mientras que las maquinas hacen todo. Una vez revisan a EVA la planta que tenía consigo desaparece y sin ella, no hay pruebas o motivos seguros para que los humanos regresen a su verdadero hogar, la tierra. Aquí la trama cambia de una historia de amor de robots a salvar el futuro de los humanos y regresar a casa.

En toda la película nos hablan de los problemas que llevaron a la tierra a terminar en ese estado, los cuales fueron el consumo desenfrenado, la falta de importancia que se le otorgaba al medio ambiente y la misma avaricia de grandes corporaciones por crear un monopolio para controlar todo fueron factores decisivos para que la tierra se convirtiera en un basurero gigante y los humanos tuvieran que huir al espacio a un crucero por poco tiempo, lo cual termina siendo mentira porque el crucero que debía durar 5 años se convirtió en uno de 700 años.

Pensar que esta película se estrenó en el año 2008 y ya se venía tocando el tema de la importancia del medio ambiente, futuros distopicos de situaciones que podrían ocurrir si no se hacía algo por solucionar los problemas y actualmente en el 2023 se ha aumentado más el tema y se sigue hablando de lo mismo, pero en una medida mucho mayor. ¿Hemos tomado conciencia desde entonces? Diría que la respuesta es un triste no y el que una película te haga recapacitar en el cómo las cosas están, lo mucho que ha cambiado y no para bien hace pensar en cómo una película que parece ser entretenimiento infantil, realmente guarda en si un mensaje bastante fuerte y que aún hoy 15 años después tiene vigencia.

Hablando de aspectos de la película, tiene muchísimos momentos graciosos, chistes tan simples pero que funcionan perfectamente por la inocencia de nuestro protagonista, además de otros buenos personajes que también hacen que toda la película sea muy amena, desde un pequeño robot obsesionado con la limpieza, como a unos humanos que se hacen amigos de Wall-E de una forma tan graciosa y espontanea que no tiene desperdicio, además de escenas para reflexionar y aprender a valorar y cuidar lo que tenemos para que en un futuro siga allí y no tengamos que buscarlo en otro lugar.

Wall-E es una película algo vieja como ya dije antes, pero si por alguna razón de la vida no han tenido la oportunidad de verla, te la recomiendo encarecidamente, no hay desperdicio, disfrutarás de la que considero yo la mejor pareja que tiene Disney, una historia bastante interesante, una trama que te atrapa y un final que sin duda no dejará a nadie inconforme. Una película para ver en familia, para que la vean los niños, adolescentes y los más adultos, sin importar la edad, se disfruta a la perfección y es eso a lo que Disney nos tiene tan acostumbrados y más en sus clásicos animados.
