Bones and All - Movie Review [ES - EN]

El género del romance no es mi primera elección al momento de querer ver un film; creo que es muy repetitivo y nada emocionante, pero en el mundo del cine, siempre estará quien decida hacer algo diferente, relatar una historia en dónde la mayoría de oportunidades sea el romance la base del desarrollo de una historia o sea un importante complemento; en las pocas películas que me han gustado en dónde se usa el término de "romance" para definirlas, justamente he visto que ese género es un complemento, uno con mucha importancia, pero que no deja de ser un factor, una elemento con mucha relevancia que ayuda a contar la historia de uno o varios personajes; en mi opinión, esta descripción la encuentro del film "Your Name" y de la película a la que en esta publicación hago reseña.

The romance genre is not my first choice when I want to see a film; I think it is very repetitive and not exciting at all, but in the world of cinema, there will always be those who decide to do something different, to tell a story where most of the time romance is the basis of the development of a story or an important complement; in the few movies I have liked where the term "romance" is used to define them, I have seen that this genre is a complement, one with a lot of importance, but it is still a factor, an element with a lot of relevance that helps to tell the story of one or more characters; in my opinion, I find this description in the film "Your Name" and in the movie that I am reviewing in this publication.

Con el estreno en el servicio de streaming de Amazon Prime Video, por fin decidí de ver "Bones and All", este film relata la historia de la adolescente "Maren Yearly", quien vive en un pueblo en Maryland junto a "Frank", su padre; un día mientras se reúne con un grupo de compañeras de clase, Maeren revela tendencias caníbales en contra de una de las chicas, eso hace que ella y su padre deban huir de ese lugar siendo esta la última vez, ya que Frank decide abandonarla porque no puede lidiar con todo lo que es su hija; eso hará que la joven Maren decida comenzar un viaje de autoconocimiento, uno en dónde deba saber cuál es su origen, un viaje para experimentar quien es, explorar sus apetitos, su necesidad de crecer, justamente ese viaje le brindará todo lo que puede conocer, en especial el amor, un sentimiento que espera saciar todo lo que ella desea.

With the premiere on Amazon Prime Video streaming service, I finally decided to watch "Bones and All", this film tells the story of the teenager "Maren Yearly", who lives in a town in Maryland with "Frank", her father; one day while meeting with a group of classmates, Maeren reveals cannibalistic tendencies against one of the girls, that makes her and her father must flee from that place being this the last time, as Frank decides to abandon her because he can not deal with everything that is his daughter; That will make the young Maren decide to start a journey of self-knowledge, one where she must know what her origin is, a journey to experience who she is, explore her appetites, her need to grow, just that journey will give her everything she can know, especially love, a feeling that hopes to satiate everything she desires.

Esta película significa la segunda vez que veo una producción dirigida por Luca Guadagnino; anteriormente tuve la oportunidad de ver el magnífico drama juvenil, una miniserie de HBO, llamada "We Are Who We Are" y después de ver este film, en algún momento veré el remake de "Suspira". Con respecto al desempeño de Guadagnino en esta película; es algo magistral, la fotografía es excelente, es hermoso ver la imagen desde un pasillo de la escuela a una toma completamente abierta en dónde se apreció un extenso horizonte; creo que no existe ninguna escenografía que sea mala, no hay ninguna, todas son especiales; otra característica es lo referente a la intimidad, a lo llamativo a las escenas canibalísticas, sea porque genere rechazo u horror, son todas perfectas; creo que el trabajo de este director en este film no fue tan reconocido como en otras producciones y es algo que considero lamentable.

No soy fan del género del romance, pero del Coming of Age sí y esta historia es perfecta dentro de ese género; el guion escrito por David Kajganich, está basado en la novela del mismo nombre escrita por Camille DeAngelis; desarrolla de manera excelente como una joven chica comienza su descubrimiento del mundo siendo muy diferente a las personas comunes; su apetito por la carne humana, hace que todo sea más caótico, pero más atrayente para el personaje principal quien al estar completamente sola, deberá por sí misma lidiar con los peligros que seguramente otros que están en su posición tendrán que enfrentar; todo ese asunto del autodescubrimiento, de confiar, desconfiar, seguir sus instintos, hará que decida que camino seguir por sí misma, tomando lo bueno y lo malo que ha experimentado desde el momento en que empezó a sentirse libre; es una historia magnífica.

This film means the second time I see a production directed by Luca Guadagnino; previously I had the opportunity to see the magnificent youth drama, an HBO miniseries, called "We Are Who We Are" and after seeing this film, at some point I will see the remake of "Suspira". Regarding the performance of Guadagnino in this film; it is something masterful, the photography is excellent, it is beautiful to see the image from a school hallway to a completely open shot where a vast horizon was appreciated; I think there is no set design that is bad, there is none, they are all special; another characteristic is the intimacy, the striking and the cannibalistic scenes, whether it generates rejection or horror, they are all perfect; I believe that the work of this director in this film was not as recognized as in other productions and it is something that I consider regrettable.

I am not a fan of the romance genre, but of Coming of Age I am and this story is perfect within that genre; the script written by David Kajganich, is based on the novel of the same name written by Camille DeAngelis; it develops in an excellent way how a young girl begins her discovery of the world being very different from ordinary people; her appetite for human flesh, makes everything more chaotic, but more appealing to the main character who, being completely alone, will have to deal by herself with the dangers that surely others in her position will have to face; all that matter of self-discovery, of trusting, distrusting, following her instincts, will make her decide which path to follow by herself, taking the good and the bad she has experienced since the moment she started to feel free; it is a magnificent story.

Me sorprende que Taylor Russell quien había visto protagonizar tanto el primer y segundo film "Escape Room", sea la protagonista de Bones and All; esto no lo digo por qué su actuación en los anteriores films citados sean malos, sino porque en su interpretación de "Maren" se ve muy diferente; me gusta mucho este personaje y seré sincero en algo, primeramente esperaba que si desarrollo sea algo lento y eso más que nada en explorar lentamente su transición hacia el canibalismo, pero me sorprendió que ella sea una joven mujer en dónde su apetito no solo sea por la carne, sino por explorar la vida, tener libertad y es por eso que posiblemente tome como excusa explorar sus orígenes, para en realidad saber qué quiere hacer, no en el futuro, sino en el presente; su actuación es buena, es muy correcta, sus gestos, su mirada representa mucha curiosidad, pero también demuestra mucha confianza y fuerza, creo que eso es vital para su personaje y por supuesto, para el film. Las actuaciones de Timothée Chalamet y Mark Rylance, son muy buenas, son excelentes actores de reparto, crean una buena química con Russell, en dónde la diferencia de sus relaciones es importante y eso hace que no todo se enfoque en "Maren", sino también en la historia de los personajes que estos dos actores interpretan.

I am surprised that Taylor Russell who I had seen starring in both the first and second film "Escape Room", is the protagonist of Bones and All; this is not because her performance in the previous films mentioned are bad, but because in her interpretation of "Maren" she looks very different; I really like this character and I'll be honest about something, first of all I expected her development to be a little slow and that more than anything in slowly exploring her transition to cannibalism, but I was surprised that she is a young woman where her appetite is not only for meat, but to explore life, to have freedom and that's why she possibly takes as an excuse to explore her origins, to really know what she wants to do, not in the future, but in the present; his acting is good, it is very correct, his gestures, his look represents a lot of curiosity, but he also shows a lot of confidence and strength, I think that is vital for his character and of course, for the film. The performances of Timothée Chalamet and Mark Rylance, are very good, they are excellent supporting actors, they create a good chemistry with Russell, where the difference of their relationships is important and that makes that not everything is focused on "Maren", but also in the story of the characters that these two actors play.

He hecho referencia a lo que en "Bones and All", funciona muy bien dentro del género Coming of Age y del romance, lo cual es importante, pero la realciom de esos dos géneros con el horror es lo que más me ha gustado; también debo nombrar a qué está película es un "Road Trip" y justamente, la relación entre los géneros antes citados es lo que considero que es lo mejor del film; el balance es fundamental porque todo muestra una unión, sea por lo muy simple o por lo breve de la aparición de ciertos personajes que con una frase hace evidente lo que pude percibir al ver esta película. Me gustó la historia de "Maren", me gustó el terror que ofrece muchos personajes, depredadores, viles, egoístas, psicópatas, me gustó la relación entre dos solitarios personajes, su conexión, la confianza entre ellos; esta es una historia magnífica, completa y de lo mejor que he visto en este año; mi recomendación es que vean está película, disfruten de la historia y por supuesto, tengan un buen apetito.

I have made reference to what in "Bones and All", works very well within the Coming of Age genre and romance, which is important, but the realciom of these two genres with horror is what I liked the most; I must also mention that this film is a "Road Trip" and precisely, the relationship between the aforementioned genres is what I consider to be the best of the film; the balance is fundamental because everything shows a union, either by the very simple or by the brief appearance of certain characters that with a sentence makes evident what I could perceive when watching this film. I liked the story of "Maren", I liked the terror offered by many characters, predators, vile, selfish, psychopaths, I liked the relationship between two lonely characters, their connection, the trust between them; this is a magnificent story, complete and one of the best I have seen this year; my recommendation is to see this film, enjoy the story and of course, have a good appetite.
