Bring Her Back - Movie Review [ES - EN]

En el 2022, los hermanos gemelos Danny y Michael Philippou, interrumpieron en el mundo del cine con la excelente "Talk to Me" en donde se relata la historia de un grupo de adolescentes que pueden contactar espíritus usando una mano embalsamada; fue tanto el impacto que muchas personas (yo incluido) esperaron por el estreno de una inmediata secuela o hasta precuela de su primer film, pero la realidad es que ambos hermanos decidieron crear una nueva historia original en donde el terror es originado al momento de no superar una terrible perdida.

Nuevamente, "Los Philippou" usan a Australia para ser el lugar en donde sus historias se desarrollen, en mi opinión saben cómo resaltar las los lugares en donde se llevarán a cabo cada escena, esto lo digo a mostrar características cotidiana de su país, de la cultura, las personas y hasta la naturaleza, justamente esas características es de gran importancia para esta historia, ya que sé en gran parte se desarrolla en una casa que había en un bosque. En su primer largometraje, algo que me gustó de los todavía nuevos directores fue el generar escenas incómodas que van más allá del simple jump-scare y en esta oportunidad, nuevamente se observa ese tipo de escenas, pero en mi opinión están mejor desarrolladas, tiene la pausa y a la vez la aparición necesaria para generar un buen impacto; se nota que el trabajo en la dirección va evolucionando para mejor.

Once again, "The Philippous" use Australia as the setting for their stories. In my opinion, they know how to highlight the locations where each scene takes place, showcasing the everyday characteristics of their country, its culture, its people, and even its nature. These characteristics are of great importance to this story, since I know that much of it takes place in a house in the woods. In their first feature film, something I liked about the still-new directors was their ability to create uncomfortable scenes that go beyond simple jump scares. In this film, we see those kinds of scenes again, but in my opinion, they are better developed, with the necessary pauses and appearances to create a good impact. It is clear that their directing work is evolving for the better.

La historia es formidable, el relato original sobre la sobreprotección del hermano mayor a su hermana que presenta una discapacidad visual, es más que perfecto; esa historia funciona con base para el verdadero y gran relato de este film lo cual es la manera de como una perdida, en este caso la muerte de un familiar puede motivar en tu vida, se plantea las preguntas ¿Qué tanto puede hacer cambiar la muerte de un padre o hijo? ¿Qué puedes hacer para superar tanto dolor? ¿Qué tan dispuesto estás para hacerlo regresar? Posiblemente, cada pregunta se puede sentir diferente o igual, pero para esta historia es importante porque todas son un paso hacia un lugar sumamente oscuro y vil; posiblemente esa sea mi definición sobre la historia escrita por Danny Philippou y Bill Hinzman, un relato vil y cruel sobre superar una perdida.

The story is formidable, the original tale of an older brother's overprotectiveness towards his visually impaired sister is more than perfect; that story serves as the basis for the true and great narrative of this film, which is how a loss, in this case the death of a family member, can motivate you in your life. It raises the questions: How much can the death of a parent or child change you? What can you do to overcome such pain? How willing are you to bring them back? Each question may feel different or the same, but for this story, they are important because they are all a step towards a very dark and vile place. That is perhaps my definition of the story written by Danny Philippou and Bill Hinzman, a vile and cruel tale about overcoming loss.

Las actuaciones son magníficas, los jóvenes actores, Billy Barratt y Sora Wong, hacen un correcto trabajo interpretando a dos hermanos, se puede notar la química entre ambos porque es notorio que existe una necesidad de protección entre ambos; sus personajes, Andy y Piper, están muy bien interpretados, Andy es sumamente sobreprotector y Piper a pesar de su discapacidad es muy fuerte, pero por supuesto es vulnerable y su dependencia es más que nada en su necesidad de ser amada, creo que la manera de como están escritos ambos personajes, es perfecta para esta historia de terror por qué son personajes vulnerables; ahora la verdadera MVP es Sally Hawkins como Laura; que buena actuación ofrece Hawkins, la manera de interpretar a Laura quien es un personaje imponente, determinante, fuerte, una mujer dispuesta a ser todo lo necesario para cumplir su cometido sin importar las consecuencias; para mí es uno de los mejores personajes que he visto en este año.

The performances are magnificent. The young actors, Billy Barratt and Sora Wong, do a good job playing two siblings. You can see the chemistry between them because it's clear that they both need protection. Their characters, Andy and Piper, are very well portrayed. Andy is extremely overprotective, and Piper, despite her disability, is very strong, but of course she is vulnerable, and her dependence stems mainly from her need to be loved. I think the way both characters are written is perfect for this horror story because they are vulnerable characters. Now, the real MVP is Sally Hawkins as Laura. Hawkins gives such a great performance, playing Laura, who is an imposing, determined, strong character, a woman willing to do whatever it takes to accomplish her mission, regardless of the consequences. For me, she is one of the best characters I have seen this year.

Bring Her Back es de los mejor que he visto en este año; este nuevo trabajo de los hermanos Philippou, supera a su anterior film en muchos ámbitos, en especial en el desarrollo de sus protagonistas, en generar mejores imágenes, mejores escenas que son directas e incomodas lo cual aprecio porque de esa manera no se abusa del necesario susto y cuando esto ocurre, sin importar lo simple, funciona; está es una película que usa el terror como base y aunque es evidente que los Philippou usan nuevamente la perdida de un familiar como causante o motivo para los actos de su protagonista principal, puedo decir que también trata de muchos otros temas, problemas reales que son importantes para profundizar en los pocos personajes de esta historia, el uso del drama es más que correcto es prescindible para esta historia porque el dolor puede nublar y generar la locura extrema que puede llevar a cualquiera a hacer actos erróneos e imposibles. Con esta reseña oficialmente da por concluido el Hivelloween 2025, aunque en los futuros días existe seguiré haciendo reseñas de películas de terror, así que seguramente le daré la bienvenida al Hivember con terror.
