Enola Holmes 2 - Film Review [ESP/ENG]
No existe duda de que "Sherlock Holmes" es uno de los personajes más importantes en el mundo; un gran número de libros, films, series de acción-real y animadas relatan las muchas aventuras de uno de los personajes más inteligentes e intrépidos que he visto; a pesar de esa descripción no soy un fiel seguidor de las muchas producciones; he visto algún que otro antiguo film donde por supuesto debe resolver un importante misterio junto a su inseparable amigo, "Dr. John H. Watson". Cómo dije anteriormente, muchas versiones existen sobre el personaje y las últimas producciones que vi fue la hecha por el director Guy Ritchie y protagonizada por Robert Downey Jr. y Jude Law; dos películas que me gustaron mucho, pero que no me hicieron ver otras producciones como las protagonizadas por Benedict Cumberbatch o el primer film original de Netflix el cual relata la historia de la hermana de Sherlock, "Enola Holmes" el cual tuve que esperar al estreno de la secuela (a la que hago reseña en esta publicación) para poder ver.
There is no doubt that "Sherlock Holmes" is one of the most important characters in the world; a great number of books, films, live-action and animated series relate the many adventures of one of the most intelligent and intrepid characters I have ever seen; in spite of that description I am not a faithful follower of the many productions; I have seen the odd old film where of course he must solve an important mystery together with his inseparable friend, "Dr. John H. Watson". As I said before, many versions exist about the character and the last productions I saw was the one made by director Guy Ritchie and starring Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law; two movies that I liked a lot, but that didn't make me watch other productions like the ones starring Benedict Cumberbatch or the first Netflix original film which tells the story of Sherlock's sister, "Enola Holmes" which I had to wait for the release of the sequel (which I review in this post) to be able to watch.
Después de leer opiniones y críticas positivas sobre la secuela de la historia de la pequeña hermana de uno de los detectives más famosos del mundo; decidí dar una oportunidad a una historia que, como dije en al comienzo de esta publicación, no me atraía mucho de ver y como esta película es la segunda parte de esta historia por supuesto de que para poder disfrutarla necesitaba ver el primer film que se estrenó en el 2020. "Enola Holmes" me pareció un excelente origen e introducción de este personaje, está historia está basada en una novela que se estrenó en el 2007; me gusta que a pesar de ser un spin-off, no se aleja del personaje que dio fama al apellido "Holmes", pero eso no quiere decir que le reste protagonismo al personaje principal de esta historia; no hay duda de que más que un film de misterio y aventuras, este es un excelente film dentro del género coming-of-age y creo que eso es lo que más me ha gustado; ahora en esta secuela, siendo una continuación muy directa de su predecesora, seguiremos la vida de "Enola" en Londres, la veremos cómo transita un camino de independencia, pero a la vez siguiendo el transitar de uno de sus hermanos mayores, de "Sherlock"; ella a pesar de dificultades impuestas por la sociedad, está dispuesta a ayudar a los más necesitados y por eso tomará un caso que podrá significar no solo un cambio en su manera de ver la vida, sino un cambio en todo el país con respecto a cómo se visualiza el trabajo de una parte de la población menos beneficiada; es por esto que en esta oportunidad, Enola deberá estar muy preparada para enfrentar a enemigos más poderosos, peligrosos que la obligarán a pensar si es necesario ser una heroína solitaria o alguien que necesita de aliados.
After reading positive opinions and reviews about the sequel to the story of the little sister of one of the most famous detectives in the world; I decided to give a chance to a story that, as I said at the beginning of this publication, did not attract me much to see and as this film is the second part of this story of course to enjoy it I needed to see the first film that was released in 2020. "Enola Holmes" seemed to me an excellent origin and introduction of this character, this story is based on a novel that was released in 2007; I like that despite being a spin-off, it does not move away from the character that gave fame to the name "Holmes", but that does not mean that it subtracts prominence to the main character of this story; there is no doubt that more than a mystery and adventure film, this is an excellent film within the coming-of-age genre and I think that's what I liked the most; now in this sequel, being a very direct continuation of its predecessor, we will follow the life of "Enola" in London, we will see how she goes through a path of independence, but at the same time following the journey of one of her older brothers, "Sherlock"; Despite the difficulties imposed by society, she is willing to help those most in need and that is why she will take a case that could mean not only a change in her way of seeing life, but a change in the whole country with respect to how the work of a part of the less benefited population is viewed; that is why this time, Enola must be very prepared to face more powerful and dangerous enemies that will force her to think if it is necessary to be a solitary heroine or someone who needs allies.
Al primer momento de ver "Enola Holmes" me gustó que tuviera esa sensación de ser un film netamente británico, sé que el film está protagonizado por actores británicos y la historia se desarrolla en Londres, pero me refiero al tipo de imágenes y de diferentes tomas, tiene lo necesario en lo que he visto de algunas producciones británicas en dónde es evidente un humor explosivo y hasta físico; con esto debo decir que me pareció genial el trabajo del director Harry Bradbeer quien repite en esta secuela dando un plus con respecto a otras escenografías y las muchas escenas de combates y persecución; Londres siempre se ha visto como una ciudad fría y hasta puedo decir que el gris o colores oscuros predominan en ese lugar, pero para este director era necesario crear esa diferencia entre colores mostrando diferentes lugares, por ejemplo en zonas más pudientes, existe mucho más uso de colores como verde, azul, rojo, banco; en cambio, en lugares pobres, rurales, dónde predominan la industria, es donde el gris, negro, marrón se hace más fuerte; no hay duda de que este era un claro mensaje entre la diferencia entre sociedades que es un tema muy recurrente en esta historia.
El guion, tal como sucedió en el primer film fue escrito por Jack Thorne, como dije anteriormente, está historia es un perfecto Coming-of-Age; Enola sigue experimentando el mundo a través de su obligada y rápida independencia y justamente eso puede nublar su vista a otros importantes aspectos como es conectar con otras personas; me parece genial que una joven mujer que fue preparada por su madre para ser suficiente por sí misma, ahora deba poner en práctica lo que se le fue enseñado en un lugar donde es más fácil caer derrotado que obtener victorias, pero justamente al ser alguien suficiente para resolver y enfrentar cualquier peligro, ella debe en algún momento pedir ayuda sin poner en peligro su independencia; el guion es excelente.
At the first moment of watching "Enola Holmes" I liked that it had that feeling of being a purely British film, I know that the film stars British actors and the story takes place in London, but I mean the type of images and different shots, it has the necessary in what I've seen of some British productions where it is evident an explosive and even physical humor; with this I must say that I found great the work of the director Harry Bradbeer who repeats in this sequel giving a plus with respect to other scenographies and the many scenes of combat and persecution; London has always been seen as a cold city and I can even say that gray or dark colors predominate in that place, but for this director it was necessary to create that difference between colors showing different places, for example in wealthier areas, there is much more use of colors like green, blue, red, bank; instead, in poor, rural places, where industry predominates, is where gray, black, brown becomes stronger; there is no doubt that this was a clear message between the difference between societies which is a very recurrent theme in this story.
The script, as it happened in the first film was written by Jack Thorne, as I said before, this story is a perfect Coming-of-Age; Enola keeps experiencing the world through her forced and quick independence and just that can cloud her view to other important aspects such as connecting with other people; I find it great that a young woman who was prepared by her mother to be enough on her own, must now put into practice what she was taught in a place where it is easier to fall defeated than to obtain victories, but just being someone enough to solve and face any danger, she must at some point ask for help without jeopardizing her independence; the script is excellent.
En otras oportunidades, en los dos films protagonizados por Millie Bobby Brown que son parte del llamado "MonsterVerse", su actuación y su personaje no me han gustado, creo que había tanta necesidad de alejarla de su actuación en "Stranger Things" que se le dio un personaje el cual mi opinión es uno muy molesto; ahora en estas dos películas donde interpreta a "Enola Holmes" es donde si me ha gustado su manera de dar vida a este personaje, se nota que es algo natural y hasta creo que ella le da algo muy personal a su interpretación, eso lo digo por la ingenuidad, determinación, diversión y hasta momentos donde debe padecer el temor del rechazo y abandono, a eso debo sumar la necesidad de ayudar a otros lo cual es muy importante en este personaje porque es el motivo principal que encuentra para seguir en la gran ciudad; me parece muy bien el desarrollo de su personaje en estas dos películas y la interpretación de Millie le da mucho más valor. Puedo referirme un poco sobre el trabajo de Henry Cavill como "Sherlock Holmes" en dónde interpreta a una versión de este personaje, el cual, a pesar de ser famoso, parece que todavía le falta enfrentar una gran aventura; creo que es una correcta Interpretación para las breves escenas que tiene en esta película.
In other opportunities, in the two films starring Millie Bobby Brown that are part of the so called "MonsterVerse", I didn't like her performance and her character, I think there was such a need to get her away from her performance in "Stranger Things" that she was given a character which in my opinion is a very annoying one; Now in these two movies where she plays "Enola Holmes" is where I have liked her way of giving life to this character, you can see that it is something natural and I even think that she gives something very personal to her interpretation, I say that because of the naivety, determination, fun and even moments where she must suffer the fear of rejection and abandonment, to that I must add the need to help others which is very important in this character because it is the main reason she finds to continue in the big city; I think the development of his character in these two films is very good and the interpretation of Millie gives him much more value. I can refer a little bit about the work of Henry Cavill as "Sherlock Holmes" where he plays a version of this character, which, despite being famous, it seems that he still lacks to face a great adventure; I think it is a correct interpretation for the brief scenes he has in this movie.
Enola Holmes 2 es un divertido y entretenido film; posiblemente sea uno de las mejores producciones de Netflix en este año; es una digna secuela que en mi opinión supera al anterior film, más que nada por el villano y el misterio a resolver, lo otro es que a pesar de ser un spin-off, creo que tiene mucha originalidad porque no solo sirve como un relato de origen sobre este personaje sino también a la historia de Sherlock y todo lo que deberá enfrentar para alcanzar el nombramiento del mejor detective del mundo. Esta película es bastante buena, posiblemente una de las más entretenidas que he visto en este año y entendiendo el porqué fue recibida muy bien por el público en general y por los críticos; recomiendo no solamente este film, sino el anterior, dos buenas historia que espero muy pronto no solo ver la tercera parte de esta historia de Enola, sino un film enfocado en Sherlock Holmes quien junto a nuevos aliados deberá enfrentar a un digno rival.
Enola Holmes 2 is a fun and entertaining film; possibly one of the best Netflix productions this year; it is a worthy sequel that in my opinion surpasses the previous film, mostly because of the villain and the mystery to solve, the other thing is that despite being a spin-off, I think it has a lot of originality because it not only serves as an origin story about this character but also to the history of Sherlock and everything he must face to achieve the appointment of the best detective in the world. This film is quite good, possibly one of the most entertaining I have seen this year and understanding why it was received very well by the general public and critics; I recommend not only this film, but the previous one, two good stories that I hope very soon not only to see the third part of this story of Enola, but a film focused on Sherlock Holmes who along with new allies must face a worthy rival.

I remember watching the first movie back in 2020 and just loving it. Millie Bobby Brown was really a natural in her role as Enola and in my opinion did a great job giving personality to her character. I have not seen the sequel but I am really looking forward to it. The movie already has a lot of positive reviews and I'm pretty sure I'll find it entertaining too. As you mentioned that the villain probably makes this sequel better than the first film, I am looking forward to some great antagonism in the story :)

This film is just as good as the previous one, although the villain and the case is better, but I find it hard to say that this second part is better; Millie Bobby Brown's performance is very good.
I am convinced that if you liked the first film, you will like this one too.
Yo al igual que tu tuve que ver la primera parte para poder disfrutar la segunda película, porque leí buenos comentarios en las redes y me llamo mucho la atención, sobretodo porque al igual que tu me encanto la película dedicada a Sherlock Holmes que se grabo con Robert y Jude, sin duda una de mis favoritas, y concuerdo contigo en que la segunda parte de Enola Holmes estuvo mucho mejor y más emocionante que la primera, sin duda supero mis expectativas y me encanto más esta historia, además que esta conectada con un hecho de la vida real que fue la huelga de la fosforeras de 1888, eso lo hizo mucho más significativo para mi.
Y la interpretación de Milly extraordinaria totalmente y eso que no he visto otro trabajo de ella, pero estoy que pronto me sentare a ver sus otras filmaciones porque es una excelente actriz y me gusto mucho como interpreto a este personaje, súper fresco.

Lo de usar una historia de la vida real para fortalecer el arco de madre y su movimiento por los derechos de la mujer fue algo muy bien hecho.
Los dos actuaciones de Millie Bobby Brown en las dos películas de Enola Holmes son buenas, su muejro trabajo en su muy corta carrera y espero que en las próximas producciones tenga papeles interesantes.
Yo toda la vida he disfrutado de las historias con Sherlock Holmes pero este spinoff en particular nunca me ha llamado mucho la atención y creo que es porque me cansé un poco de la actriz principal después de Stranger Things. Pienso que a lo mejor deba darle una oportunidad a esta nueva franquicia aunque tengo la sospecha que quizás no sean pelis muy serias sino más bien hechas con muchas escenas cómicas?

No te voy a mentir, este es un film muy comercial, pero así como es una fórmula que funciona por ejemplo con films del MCU, está también lo practica y sirve porque hace la película agradable y entretenida que es lo que siempre valoro en producciones de Netflix.
Cuando tengas la oportunidad ve ambas películas; yo esperé al estreno de esta para ver ambas historias y no me decepcionaron.
