Fear Street: Prom Queen - Movie Review [ES - EN]
En el 2021, Netflix estrenó tres films de terror basados en la serie de libres llamados "Fear Street"; estás tres películas entrelazan sus historias en dónde se profundiza en el origen de todo mal que padece en un pueblo llamado "Shadyside"; el éxito de esta trilogía género que el público quisiera ver más y justamente desde Netflix se dio la noticia del desarrollo de nuevas películas dentro de esta franquicia; uno de esos primeros films es "Fear Street: Prom Queen", una historia que no está ligada del todo a las tres primeras películas, pero sí es parte de ese universo, ya que relata una historia de terror en 1988 en dónde una adolescente llamada "Lori Granger", deberá enfrentar a un despiadado asesino en su baile de graduación.
In 2021, Netflix released three horror films based on the free series called "Fear Street"; these three films intertwine their stories where they delve into the origin of all evil in a town called "Shadyside"; the success of this trilogy genre that the public wanted to see more and just from Netflix gave the news of the development of new films within this franchise; one of those first films is "Fear Street: Prom Queen", a story that is not entirely linked to the first three films, but it is part of that universe, as it tells a horror story in 1988 where a teenager named "Lori Granger", must face a scorned murderer at her prom.
Nuevamente, es el slasher el género elegido para dar vida a otra película más dentro de esta franquicia, aunque la diferencia con las dos primeras películas, el elemento sobrenatural no está presente y por eso debe usar características clásicas del género, en dónde se hace presente el misterio de quien es el asesino; con esto hay que señalar que está producción cumple con todo cliché de este tipo de films, en dónde la existe variedad de personajes al ser una historia desarrollada en la secundaria lo cual conlleva amor juvenil, presiones paternales, fuertes amistades y por supuesto rivalidades; posiblemente está base de la historia se presta para crear expectativas sobre lo que puede ser una correcta película de terror, pero la realidad es otra, ya que el desarrollo de cada característica dicha no es el mejor y se convierte en otro film de Netflix, con un buen potencial, pero que nunca es alcanzado.
Es notorio que está película no demuestra la seriedad o compromiso que se presenció en los tres films anteriores; primeramente se nota que este es un film con un corto presupuesto y esto lo puedo decir por las escenografías y demás decisiones para el desarrollo de muchas otras escenas; está película más que ser una producción estrenada directamente en streaming, creo que puede ser cualquier film estrenado en alguna cadena televisiva cualquiera, la calidad está muy por debajo no solo dentro de la franquicia, sino de cualquier otra película original de Netflix, es muy pobre con respecto a la decisión de filmar las muchas escenas de las muertes las cuales no ofrecen suspenso, ni mucho menos terror.
Again, slasher is the genre chosen to give life to another film in this franchise, although the difference with the first two films, the supernatural element is not present and therefore must use classic features of the genre, where the mystery of who is the murderer is present; with this it should be noted that this production meets all cliché of this type of films, where the there is a variety of characters to be a story developed in high school which involves young love, parental pressures, strong friendships and of course rivalries; possibly this basis of the story lends itself to create expectations about what can be a correct horror film, but the reality is different, since the development of each characteristic said is not the best and becomes another Netflix film, with good potential, but that is never reached.
It is notorious that this film does not show the seriousness or commitment that was witnessed in the three previous films; firstly it is noticeable that this is a film with a short budget and this I can tell by the scenographies and other decisions for the development of many other scenes; this film rather than being a production released directly on streaming, I think it could be any film released on any television network, the quality is far below not only within the franchise, but of any other Netflix original film, it is very poor with respect to the decision to film the many scenes of deaths which do not offer suspense, much less terror.
Personalmente, no soy exigente con respecto a las actuaciones en los slashers, pero en este film es de los puntos menos destacables de la película, hay muchos clichés que están presentes por el tipo de historia, más que nada por el tipo de personajes, pero que al final no hay adecuada representación porque muchos tienden a repetirse y eso hace que no existe un aporte relevante; posiblemente se destaque las protagonistas al tener el mayor tiempo en escenas y siendo justo, esas actrices hacen lo necesario para no verse completamente afectadas por como están escritas sus personajes, pero de igual manera no hay mucho que pueda sentir conexión con ninguna de las dos porque no ofrecen nada lo ya visto, ni nada nuevo dentro del género.
Personally, I am not picky about the performances in slashers, but in this film is one of the least remarkable points of the film, there are many clichés that are present by the type of story, mostly because of the type of characters, but in the end there is no adequate representation because many tend to repeat themselves and that makes there is no relevant contribution; possibly the protagonists stand out because they have the most time in scenes and being fair, these actresses do what is necessary to not be completely affected by how their characters are written, but in the same way there is not much that can feel connection with either of them because they do not offer anything already seen, nor anything new within the genre.
Posiblemente sea extraño decir que me entretuvo Fear Street: Prom Queen, pero a pesar de que en otras producciones de Netflix señaló que justamente el ser entretenido es lo más relevante, en esta oportunidad no puede ser lo que salve una decepcionante película; este cuarto film de esta franquicia sufre desde el momento de considerarse como un homenaje a los slashers de los ochenta; esa necesidad explotar la imagen de esa época no surte efecto alguno, así como también recrear escenas de otros filmes o de mostrar la influencia de las conocidas como "B Movies"; esta es una película de terror, sin escenas de terror, nada da miedo, nada es atractivo, no hay nada destacable y lo peor es lo predecible y créanme, personalmente me gustan mucho esta clase de películas y más cuando hay que relevar al asesino y soy malo adivinando, pero es "FS: Prom Queen" de las pocas veces que he acertado mucho antes que finalice la película y eso no me gustó. Es seguro que habrá otras películas más y espero que primeramente no sea otro spin-off y sí una nueva historia que conecte con la trilogía estrenada hace cuatro años.
It's strange to say that I was able to feel entertained while watching Fear Street: Prom Queen, but despite the fact that in other Netflix productions it pointed out that just being entertaining is the most relevant thing, in this opportunity it can't be what saves a disappointing movie; this fourth film of this franchise suffers from the moment of considering itself as a tribute to the slashers of the eighties; that need to exploit the image of that era has no effect, as well as recreating scenes from other films or showing the influence of the known as "B Movies"; this is a horror movie, without horror scenes, nothing is scary, nothing is attractive, there is nothing remarkable and the worst is the predictable and believe me, personally I really like this kind of movies and more when you have to relieve the killer and I'm bad at guessing, but it's "FS: Prom Queen" of the few times that I got it right long before the end of the movie and I didn't like that. It is certain that there will be other movies and I hope that first of all it will not be another spin-off but a new story that connects with the trilogy released four years ago.
