Insidious: The Red Door - Movie Review [ES - EN]

El director James Wan junto al guionista (y ahora director) Leigh Whannell, han dado buenos aportes al género del terror, siendo la franquicia de "SAW" su más grande éxito, pero junto a la serie de filmes en dónde somos testigos de la manera vil y tortuosa de "Jigsaw" de hacer justicia, también se debe nombrar a otra franquicia dentro del terror sobrenatural, me refiero a "Insidious"; una producción que es imposible no relacionarla con la franquicia de "The Conjuring", ya que tanto Wan y Patrick Wilson, son muy importantes para ambas producciones porque han cumplido roles tanto de director, productor y de protagonista; a esas similitudes debo sumar la de contar con poco presupuesto y obtener buenas recaudaciones en taquilla, pero eso no es todo, porque hay otra similitud más y es la que lamentablemente después de su primer o segundo film, las demás secuelas no mantienen la calidad de sus predecesoras.

The director James Wan together with the screenwriter (and now director) Leigh Whannell, have given good contributions to the horror genre, being the franchise of "SAW" their biggest success, but along with the series of films where we witness the vile and torturous way of "Jigsaw" to do justice, we must also name another franchise within the supernatural horror, I mean "Insidious"; a production that is impossible not to relate it with the franchise of "The Conjuring", since both Wan and Patrick Wilson, are very important for both productions because they have fulfilled roles as director, producer and protagonist; to these similarities I must add that of having a small budget and obtaining good box office takings, but that's not all, because there is another similarity and it is that unfortunately after its first or second film, the other sequels do not maintain the quality of its predecessors.

La franquicia de "Insidious" cuenta (ahora) con cinco films, siendo la última estrenada en el pasado mes de julio de este año, la particularidad de esta nueva producción, la cual fue llamada "Insidious: The Red Door", nos trae de vuelta a la familia protagonista de los primeros films, más que nada nos sigue relatando la historia de los personajes "Dalton" y "Josh Lambert", los cuales después de los últimos acontecimientos que sucedieron hace nueve años su relación como padre e hijo se ha deteriorado y es que los secretos que se generaron para proteger a ambos, al final los destruyeron como familia; ese distanciamiento ha creado un vacío en la mente de ambos los cuales a buscar respuestas terminarán profundizando en lo que realmente son y entre su curiosidad e ignorancia impuesta, despertarán los Intereses de criaturas de otro mundo, de almas torturadas que desearán nuevamente regresar al mundo real pasando por la puerta roja.

The "Insidious" franchise has (now) five films, being the last one released last July of this year, the particularity of this new production, which was called "Insidious: The Red Door ", brings us back to the family protagonist of the first films, more than anything continues to tell the story of the characters "Dalton" and "Josh Lambert", which after the last events that happened nine years ago their relationship as father and son has deteriorated and is that the secrets that were generated to protect both, in the end destroyed them as a family; This estrangement has created a void in the minds of both of them, who in search of answers will end up delving into what they really are and between their curiosity and imposed ignorance, they will awaken the interests of creatures from another world, of tortured souls that will wish to return to the real world again, passing through the red door.

Cada vez es imposible para James Wan dirigir alguno de estos films, el tiempo lo divide en superproducciones y dar origen a (posiblemente) futuras franquicias, es por eso que para este quinto film el rol de director sea para otro y lo parece que en esta franquicia se da oportunidad para que personas ligadas a este proyecto puedan estrenarse como director; en esta oportunidad es Patrick Wilson que hace su estreno como director en este film; para ser sincero, hizo un buen trabajo en varias de ellas escenas, creo que pudo aprender de la experiencia de trabajar con Wan e implementar eso en este film; me gustó como crea escenas de suspenso y el característico jump scare desde lo obvio, se toma el tiempo necesario para crear un buen susto, lamentablemente esto es en algunas escenas, ya que en otras no puede mantener esa táctica y se pierde justamente el suspenso y el susto.

En esta oportunidad, el guion fue escrito por Scott Teems quien ha escrito últimamente los guiones de películas como "Halloween Kills" y el ramake de "Firestarter", justamente esta última película es de las peores que he visto así que mis expectativas en el guion era muy bajas, pero a pesar de eso me sorprendió algunas decisiones tomadas para "The Red Dolor" como es el uso de la relación entre padre e hijo como tema principal de la historia, ya que origina nuevamente el problema entre estos personajes y lo que es llamado "The Further"; este conflicto o separación da un toque de drama familiar a esta historia y respeta la regla o teoría en que el tercer film, el pasado de los personajes será Influyente (vean SCREAM 3), eso me pareció adecuado, pero el problema del guion es lo suave y repetitivo del acto final, muy anticlimax y aburrido.

Every time is impossible for James Wan to direct any of these films, time divides him in superproductions and give birth to (possibly) future franchises, that's why for this fifth film the role of director is for another and it seems that in this franchise is given opportunity for people linked to this project can debut as a director; this time is Patrick Wilson who makes his debut as a director in this film; to be honest, he did a good job in several of them scenes, I think he could learn from the experience of working with Wan and implement that in this film; I liked how he creates suspense scenes and the characteristic jump scare from the obvious, he takes the necessary time to create a good scare, unfortunately this is in some scenes, since in others he cannot keep that tactic and the suspense and the scare is lost.

In this opportunity, the script was written by Scott Teems who has lately written the scripts of movies like "Halloween Kills" and the ramake of "Firestarter", precisely this last movie is one of the worst I have seen so my expectations in the script was very low, but despite that I was surprised by some decisions taken for "The Red Dolor" as is the use of the relationship between father and son as the main theme of the story, as it originates again the problem between these characters and what is called "The Further"; this conflict or separation gives a touch of family drama to this story and respects the rule or theory that the third film, the past of the characters will be influential (see SCREAM 3), that seemed to me adequate, but the problem of the script is the smooth and repetitive final act, very anticlimax and boring.

Un punto negativo en el film son las actuaciones las cuales son muy regulares; no las considero completamente malas porque creo que la interpretación de Patrick Wilson y Ty Simpkins como "Josh" y "Dalton Lambert", parece ser correcta en parte del film; me refiero a lo que demuestran ser en la etapa de su vida en el momento de la película; ambos atormentados de manera diferente por todo lo que ha ocurrido en el pasado y del cual no tienen conocimiento; eso me gustó, pero el problema está en la poca química que demuestran en el acto final del film; no hay suficientes escenas (en mi opinión) para crear suspenso e intriga en los momentos finales, todo es tan rápido y fácilmente resuelto que resta a la historia y al trabajo de los actores.

A negative point in the film are the performances which are very regular; I don't consider them completely bad because I think the interpretation of Patrick Wilson and Ty Simpkins as "Josh" and "Dalton Lambert", seems to be correct in part of the film; I mean what they show to be in the stage of their life at the time of the film; both tormented in different ways by everything that has happened in the past that they have no knowledge of; I liked that, but the problem is in the little chemistry they show in the final act of the film; there are not enough scenes (in my opinion) to create suspense and intrigue in the final moments, everything is so quick and easily resolved that it detracts from the story and the work of the actors.

Los dos primeros films de "Insidious" me gustaron mucho; el cliffhanger entre esas películas me pareció excelente y lo sucedido en el segundo capítulo fue genial; puede ser que eso me haya creado cierta expectativa en esta tercera parte referente a la familia Lambert y debo decir que por los momentos, la decisión de tener como tema principal la relación de padres e hijos me pareció acertada, era necesario dar clausura (creo) a la historia de esta familia cerrando ciertos circulos, todo enfocado en la familia que da origen a la franquicia. Sé que hubo personas decepcionadas en que se profundice más con respecto a lo que es "The Further" y posiblemente se pudo tocar ese tema en esta película, pero eso desviaría el tema familiar impuesto para esta quinta película y aunque eso no lo considero negativo, estoy convencido de que lo repetitivo del final en donde existe la resolución sin terror, sin lucha, sin sacrificio me parece lo peor de esta película y la convierte en otra secuela aburrida dentro de esta franquicia.

The first two films of "Insidious" I liked a lot; the cliffhanger between those films seemed excellent and what happened in the second chapter was great; maybe that has created me some expectation in this third part regarding the Lambert family and I must say that for the moment, the decision to have as main theme the relationship between parents and children seemed right, it was necessary to give closure (I think) to the history of this family closing certain circles, all focused on the family that gives rise to the franchise. I know there were people who were disappointed in the fact that it was necessary to go deeper with respect to "The Further" and possibly that theme could have been touched in this film, but that would deviate the family theme imposed for this fifth film and although I do not consider it negative, I am convinced that the repetitive ending where there is a resolution without terror, without struggle, without sacrifice seems to me the worst of this film and turns it into another boring sequel in this franchise.
