PREY - Film Review [ESP/ENG]
Personalmente desde niño tuve una gran preferencia por películas como Alien, The Terminator y Predators; tres historias épicas en dónde una o varias personas deberían enfrentar a un enemigo diferente, poderoso, casi perfecto; estas tres películas son muy importantes para mí porque nunca las dejo de ver, tienen grandes protagonistas, buenos personajes secundarios, gran historia y lo mejor es que el villano es sumamente único, es por eso que es imposible no sentirse atraído a esta tríada de films que en un primer momento las reconocí como films de acción, pero tiempo después pude disfrutarlas aun más descubriendo que otros géneros estaban presentes en estas historias y eso le dio un mejor valor. Por ser producciones cinematográficas exitosas, era de esperar que tuvieran secuelas, Alien y Terminator tuvieron secuelas en dónde una pudo encajar en una época en dónde la acción era muy importante; la otra es considerada una de las mejores secuelas en la historia del cine; ahora con Predator, para algunos la segunda parte está al nivel de la primera, para otros es tan solo un buen film; mi opinión es muy difícil que la franquicia de esta historia se encuentre un film que supera a la estrenada en 1987; pero 35 años después, parece que por fin se pudo hacer una secuela completamente digna de lo que es esta historia de un gran cazador contra una gran presa.
Personally since I was a kid I had a great preference for movies like Alien, The Terminator and Predators; three epic stories where one or several people should face a different, powerful, almost perfect enemy; these three movies are very important for me because I never stop watching them, they have great protagonists, good secondary characters, great story and the best thing is that the villain is extremely unique, that is why it is impossible not to feel attracted to this triad of films that at first I recognized them as action films, but later I could enjoy them even more discovering that other genres were present in these stories and that gave them a better value. Being successful film productions, it was expected to have sequels, Alien and Terminator had sequels where one was able to fit in an era where action was very important; the other is considered one of the best sequels in the history of cinema; now with Predator, for some the second part is at the level of the first, for others it is just a good film; my opinion is very difficult for the franchise of this story to find a film that surpasses the one released in 1987; but 35 years later, it seems that finally a sequel could be made completely worthy of what is this story of a great hunter against a great prey.
En el mundo del cine muchas franquicias hacen que sin querer tenga expectativas por nuevas historias, algunas veces superan fichas expectativas, en otras oportunidades me siento satisfecho y hasta me creo la esperanza que la próxima vez se hará mejor, pero también hay momentos en donde la decepción me hace pensar que posiblemente está sea la última vez que pueda ver un film dentro de esas franquicias porque es difícil recobrar la atención que obtuvieron en un comienzo; todas esas etapas las he vivido con franquicias cómo Alien y The Terminator; lamentablemente las que he sentido más frustración (aparte de las máquinas asesinas del futuro) es con la historia de una raza alienígena que llega a nuestro planeta para mejorar sus habilidades en la cacería; de las 4 películas estrenadas en décadas diferentes he sentido la frustración de, primero copiar algo ya hecho, no seguir explorando los orígenes de la raza alienígena y lo peor, convertir en algo parejo en fuerza y máquina a los que considero un potente rival; es lamentable que solo pueda disfrutar en parte una historia en vez de hacer de manera completa como sucedió cuando vi el primer film, pero eso ha cambiado con el estreno de una película dentro del gran universo de Predator, ya que tanto en la dirección, historia, actuación y diseño e importancia de gran cazador, hace que este film sea tan bueno como lo fue la primera película. En "PREY" estaremos en una época lejana a qué estamos acostumbrados a ver en las demás películas de Pedrator; en esta oportunidad la historia se desarrolla en 1719 y debemos seguir a "Naru" una Comanche que está siendo entrenada por su madre para ser una curandera, pero ella desea ser una cazadora tal como lo fue su fallecido padre y como es su hermano mayor; ella está dispuesta a usar su inteligencia y determinación para poder obtener una oportunidad y mostrarse como una habilidosa cazadora; un día mientras Naru y su perra, Sarii, están cazando la comida para su hogar ve un objeto en el cielo y ello lo toma como una señal para que por fin ella pueda ser aceptada como cazadora para su tribu en vez de una curandera, lo que no sabe ella ni su tribu es que en ese objeto del cielo vino una especie más fuerte y despedida que cualquiera criatura del mundo y que está dispuesta a ponerse a prueba con quién sea, en dónde sea para probarse y demostrar que sus habilidades son necesarias para ser considero el mejor; es por eso que Naru y la criatura del espacio deberán mostrar lo mejor de sí para ser considerado como óptimos cazadores, los mejores y así recibir el respeto y admiración que merecen.
In the world of cinema many franchises make me unintentionally have expectations for new stories, sometimes they exceed my expectations, sometimes I feel satisfied and even hope that next time it will be better, but there are also moments where the disappointment makes me think that this is possibly the last time I can see a film within those franchises because it is difficult to regain the attention they got in the beginning; I have lived all those stages with franchises like Alien and The Terminator; unfortunately the ones I have felt more frustration (apart from the killing machines of the future) is with the story of an alien race that arrives to our planet to improve their hunting skills; of the 4 movies released in different decades I have felt the frustration of, first copying something already done, not further exploring the origins of the alien race and worst of all, turning what I consider a powerful rival into something even in strength and machine; it is unfortunate that I can only enjoy part of a story instead of doing it in a complete way as it happened when I saw the first film, but that has changed with the release of a film within the great Predator universe, since both in direction, story, acting and design and importance of great hunter, makes this film as good as it was the first film. In "PREY " we will be in a time far away from what we are used to see in the other Pedrator movies; this time the story takes place in 1719 and we must follow "Naru" a Comanche who is being trained by her mother to be a healer, but she wants to be a hunter like her deceased father and her older brother; she is willing to use her intelligence and determination to get a chance and show herself as a skilled hunter; One day while Naru and her dog, Sarii, are hunting for food for their home she sees an object in the sky and she takes it as a sign so that she can finally be accepted as a hunter for her tribe instead of a healer, what she and her tribe do not know is that in that object from the sky came a species stronger and fired than any creature in the world and that she is willing to test herself with whoever, wherever to prove herself and demonstrate that her skills are necessary to be considered the best; that is why Naru and the space creature will have to show their best to be considered as the best hunters, the best and thus receive the respect and admiration they deserve.
Cuando supe la noticia de un nuevo film dentro de esta franquicia que se enfocaba en mostrar otra época en la historia de la humanidad y más aún a una comunidad que debió integrarse a la naturaleza, tomar lo que provee para poder sobrevivir teniendo sus propias leyes y creencias, sentí que era algo perfecto para todo lo referente a "Predator"; ahora al momento de ver el teaser trailer tuve dudas porque las imágenes daban una sensación de ver una producción de una calidad parecida a las hechas para televisión, pero al ver el tráiler completo y las muchas opiniones de personas que habían visto por completo la película no tuve otra opción que rendirme a grandes expectativas sobre este film. "PREY" fue dirigido por Dan Trachtenberg; un joven director que con este nuevo film sobre Predator y "10 Cloverfield Lane", son los únicos largometrajes que ha realizado; pienso que la decisión de contar con este todavía nuevo director fue excelente porque la segunda película dentro del universo de Cloverfield cumple con lo referente a ser un spin-off y posiblemente secuela dentro de esa franquicia y por eso pienso que tenía un paso adelante porque sabía que debería hacer en este nuevo film sobre el cazador alienígena; el trabajo de Dan me sorprendió, el tener una historia que se desarrolló en un campo lleno de árboles, diferente vegetación, ambientación y otras cosas, le dio posibilidad de crear excelentes tomas en muchas escenas, en especial las de acción en dónde demuestra las habilidades del Depredador y de Naru; me pareció excelente que tuviera el tiempo para que justamente no solo se enfoque en el gran protagonista, sino que también desarrolle quien es la verdadera protagonista de esta película.
When I heard the news of a new film within this franchise that focused on showing another era in the history of mankind and more so a community that had to integrate with nature, take what it provides in order to survive having their own laws and beliefs, I felt it was perfect for everything related to "Predator"; Now when I saw the teaser trailer I had doubts because the images gave a feeling of seeing a production of a quality similar to those made for television, but when I saw the full trailer and the many opinions of people who had seen the entire film I had no choice but to surrender to great expectations about this film. "PREY" was directed by Dan Trachtenberg; a young director that with this new film about Predator and "10 Cloverfield Lane", are the only feature films he has made; I think the decision to have this still new director was excellent because the second film within the Cloverfield universe complies with what it refers to be a spin-off and possibly sequel within that franchise and that's why I think he had a step ahead because he knew what he should do in this new film about the alien hunter; The work of Dan surprised me, having a story that developed in a field full of trees, different vegetation, ambience and other things, gave him the possibility to create excellent shots in many scenes, especially the action scenes where he demonstrates the skills of the Predator and Naru; I thought it was excellent that he had the time to focus not only on the great protagonist, but also to develop who is the real protagonist of this film.
En todas las películas de esta franquicia mostraban a ese líder ya formado, todos lo respetaban y admiraban, todos de alguna manera le seguían y creían en su palabra, más aún cuando deberían enfrentar a un formidable y letal rival; en esta oportunidad con el guion creado por Patrick Aison, se realizó algo diferente y eso es que justamente la protagonista, "Naru", interpretada por Amber Midthunder es en parte lo que hace que este film sea sumamente importante, entretenido, creíble y admirable, sí para mí tanto la historia como la interpretación de esta joven actriz es algo ideal para esta historia y crea un excelente complemento con lo que es el Depredador de este film el cual recibe el nombre de "Feral Predator" el cual hasta la fecha junto a los depredadores en "Predators" son los que más me gustan; con respecto a este tengo una teoría la cual al mostrar ser muy primitivo o rural, tanto de su aspecto como de sus armas, creo que justamente por su vivencia en esa época en la tierra pudo dar información a su especie y por eso vemos en los otros films mejoras en su traje y armas, hasta puedo decir una evolución en su aspecto; lo otro claro es su manera de cazar la cual es muy directa y violenta, muy diferente a la de sus descendientes; justamente eso contrarresta a cómo es el personaje de Naru que es muy inteligente, fuerte, con gran motivación, pero cautelosa; ella es mi personaje favorito en esta franquicia, es la mejor y hasta puedo decir que está al nivel de lo que demostró el personaje de "Dutch" en el primer film; Midthunder hizo un gran trabajo.
In all the movies of this franchise they showed that leader already formed, everyone respected and admired him, everyone somehow followed him and believed in his word, even more so when they had to face a formidable and lethal rival; this time with the script created by Patrick Aison, something different was realized and that is that precisely the main character, "Naru", played by Amber Midthunder is partly what makes this film extremely important, entertaining, credible and admirable, yes for me both the story and the interpretation of this young actress is something ideal for this story and creates an excellent complement to what is the Predator of this film which is called "Feral Predator" which to date along with the predators in "Predators" are the ones I like the most; with respect to this one I have a theory which shows to be very primitive or rural, both their appearance and their weapons, I think that precisely because of their experience at that time on earth could give information to their species and that's why we see in the other films improvements in his suit and weapons, I can even say an evolution in their appearance; the other clear thing is her way of hunting which is very direct and violent, very different from that of her descendants; precisely that counteracts how Naru's character is very intelligent, strong, with great motivation, but cautious; she is my favorite character in this franchise, she is the best and I can even say that she is at the level of what the character of "Dutch" showed in the first film; Midthunder did a great job.
PREY es uno de los mejores filmes que he visto en este año, para mí es la secuela que estaba esperando; no es una copia sino un homenaje a lo que ya se ha hecho en anteriores films, preferiblemente al que se estrenó hace 35 años y eso lo celebro como una gran victoria porque es algo que se supo hacer muy bien, por ejemplo el personaje "Taabe", interpretado por Dakota Beavers hace justicia a un personaje icónico del primer film, uno de mis favoritos y eso fue algo que pareció excelente, épico; lo otro es que usa referencia o un simple fan service para todos los fans de esta franquicia y no lo encontré nada malo porque encajo muy bien en la historia sin ser explotado como sucede en otros films; lo otro es que me rehúso a decir que este film es "propaganda woke" porque a finales de los 70' y entre los 80' y 90' el mundo del cine tuvo a dos heroínas que pudieron acabar con grandes y también letales enemigos y que en esta oportunidad se regrese a mostrar a una fuerte mujer, inteligente, como líder de esta historia era lo que estaba esperando desde hace mucho tiempo. Estoy de acuerdo de que este film debió tener un estreno en las salas de cine, estoy de acuerdo de que está historia debería estar en los primeros lugares de la lista de las mejores películas dentro de la franquicia de Predator, para mí está en el segundo lugar, muy cerca de lo que fue la primera parte y espero que si siguen en este formato de mostrar diferentes épocas, lugares, presas y cazadores, creo que está franquicia tendrá un renacimiento merecido porque si hay una historia que se merece ser contada desde el género de acción, terror y ciencia-ficción es justamente está en dónde la inteligencia y fuerza de una presa hará que el cazador sé convierta la víctima.
PREY is one of the best films I have seen this year, for me it is the sequel I was waiting for; it is not a copy but a tribute to what has already been done in previous films, preferably the one that was released 35 years ago and that I celebrate it as a great victory because it is something that was done very well, for example the character "Taabe", played by Dakota Beavers does justice to an iconic character of the first film, one of my favorites and that was something that seemed excellent, epic; the other thing is that it uses reference or a simple fan service for all the fans of this franchise and I didn't find it bad at all because it fit very well in the story without being exploited as it happens in other films; the other thing is that I refuse to say that this film is "propaganda woke" because at the end of the 70' and between the 80' and 90' the world of cinema had two heroines that could take down great and also lethal enemies and that in this opportunity it returns to show a strong woman, intelligent, as the leader of this story was what I was waiting for a long time. I agree that this film should have had a theatrical release, I agree that this story should be at the top of the list of the best films in the Predator franchise, for me is in second place, very close to what was the first part and I hope that if they continue in this format of showing different times, places, prey and hunters, I think this franchise will have a deserved rebirth because if there is a story that deserves to be told from the genre of action, horror and sci-fi is just this one where the intelligence and strength of a prey will make the hunter become the victim.

aaaah viste, yo te dije que cuando la vieras, seguro la pondrías entre las primeras, cuando compartiste un ranking de las películas de Predator en twitter. A mi también me gusto bastante, quede sorprendido, no tenia altas expectativas y la historia me engancho.
He leído todas las criticas negativas de un grueso sector de la sociedad tachándola de película woke y toda esa tontería de los últimos tiempos. ya me tienen es fastidiado con cada nueva producción que sale, la discusión la llevan a una batalla ideología. Así esta ocurriendo con la serie La casa del Dragón y va a ocurrir con la de El Señor de los Anillos.
Me gusto el personaje protagonista femenino, me gustan ese tipo de personajes y la película no defrauda, es muy buena. También para lista de lo mejorcito de este año.
Me sorprendió mucho, es brutal; la historia completa tanto del Depredador como de Naru es algo muy bien hecho, dos cazadores compitiendo, usando sus habilidades para ver quien es mejor; eso fue lo que más me gusto junto a la justicia poética hacia Billy, mi personaje favorito, bueno mi otro personaje favorito porque Naru la tengo ahora con Ripley y Sarah.
Sabes que esta semana hablare sobe ese primer episodio de la casa del dragón y justamente me voy a referir en algo sobre eso; a mi también me tiene molesto que todo lo que sea un protagonismo de una mujer sea considerado woke, es estúpido y equivocado; protagonistas mujeres han existido y existirán por siempre, no es nada nuevo.

Hola, me encantó esta película, he leído infinidad de reseñas de ella porque de verdad está en boca de muchos, así que tenía que verla.
Se la recomendé a mi esposo y cuando el la vio yo no pude. Pero cuando terminó, me dijo que era muy buena, así que al día siguiente la vimos los dos. Muy buena, me encanta los personaje como Naru, analíticos, que ven cosas donde otros no lo pueden ver.
Para mi, también es una de las mejores películas que he visto este año.
Creo que la historia de Naru y del mismo Depredador demostrando sus habilidades para la cacería es lo que más me ha gustado.
No tengo dudas de que la decisión de que en esta oportunidad tener a una mujer como la protagonista, fue la mejor decisión.

Very excellent review, I loved the way you recapped what the previous movies were like.
I love this new predator and great, inexperienced but at the same time fierce, certainly a much better movie than its predecessor which was a total failure.
You know that both Predator 2 and Predators have great stuff that delves into that unknown that is that alien race; this movie also brings something to the table, but it's better made than all the others.

La primera vez que escuche sobre la producción de esta película, no me causo mayor expectativa dado que las secuelas de la primera de depredador no me han gustado, pero por lo que he estado leyendo en diversas reseñas me hasta provocando bastante verla. Saludos, nos estaremos leyendo.

Predator protagonizada por Schwarzenegger es un clásico del cine de acción, ciencia-ficción y hasta terror; este nuevo film para mí recupera esa sensación o esos tres elementos que hizo especial la primera película.
PREY también tiene relacion con el segundo film, algo puntual, pero importante para el relato de toda la historia; si algún día decide ver Predator 2, seguro notará de lo que hablo.
