Saw X - Movie Review [ES - EN]

La franquicia de SAW fue o es importante para el género del terror al crear un personaje icónico como es "John Kramer" también conocido como "Jigsaw", junto a demás elementos como por ejemplo el famoso títere "Billy" y la mítica frase "I Want To Play A Game"; cada una de estas características fue parte de un gran número de films que después de cierto tiempo, lo repetitivo y la poca imaginación y el mal desarrollo de la historia hizo aburrido las últimas secuelas y eso hizo que se llegará a un fin, pero siempre en estas películas de terror, hay un episodio más y aunque un film, un spin-off, fue estrenado con tan poco éxito, que mejor que regresar a las raíces para posiblemente tener un nuevo comienzo.

The SAW franchise was or is important for the horror genre by creating an iconic character such as "John Kramer" also known as "Jigsaw", along with other elements such as the famous puppet "Billy" and the mythical phrase "I Want To Play A Game"; each one of these characteristics was part of a great number of films that after a certain time, the repetitive and the little imagination and the bad development of the story made the last sequels boring and that made them come to an end, but always in these horror movies, there is one more episode and although a film, a spin-off, was released with so little success, what better than going back to the roots to possibly have a new beginning.

Sorpresivamente, el juego no ha terminado para esta franquicia en dónde la justicia llega de una manera tortuosa y terrorífica; un nuevo episodio fue estrenado en este año y en dónde nuevamente veremos a "John Kramer" usar el seudónimo de "Jigsaw", para enseñar a personas de una manera nada convencional, el significado de hacer el bien, de ser justos y de apreciar la vida; ahora, seguramente se harán la pregunta de como es posible que el personaje principal regrese cuando murió en el tercer film y la simple respuesta es que este nuevo film está posicionado entre el primer y segundo film de la franquicia; una historia en dónde Kramer tendrá un pensamiento de tomar venganza en vez de hacer justicia.

Surprisingly, the game is not over for this franchise where justice comes in a tortuous and terrifying way; a new episode was released this year and where we will again see "John Kramer" using the pseudonym of "Jigsaw", to teach people in an unconventional way, the meaning of doing good, being fair and appreciating life; Now, you will surely wonder how is it possible that the main character returns when he died in the third film and the simple answer is that this new film is positioned between the first and second film of the franchise; a story where Kramer will have a thought of taking revenge instead of doing justice.

El sexto film fue el último que vi de esta franquicia en una sala de cine, renuncie por completo a lo que fue SAW porque no había emoción o no era lo suficientemente sorpresiva o impactante, pero al leer buenas opiniones sobre este nuevo film, pensé que posiblemente se trate de recuperar lo que le dio fama a toda esta historia y esa tarea la tomó el director Kevin Greutert quien dirigió tanto la sexta como la séptima película dentro de esta extensa franquicia. Este es un film pequeño, tuvo un presupuesto corto y eso se nota en cada una de las escenas; principalmente eso me gustó porque me hizo recordar al primer film; el problema es que lamentablemente sigue siendo repetitivo, con poca emoción e imaginación y no hay ninguna escena impactante.

La historia en sí me gustó; sé que en anteriores films se expone el origen y motivos del porqué el personaje de "John Kramer" decide crear "Jigsaw" y sus retorcidos juegos, también de la necesidad de ser rápido porque él mismo es parte de un juego que sabe que perderá al final y en esta oportunidad, su enfermedad es un elemento importante porque expone algo que pocas veces se ha visto a este personaje y es sobre la vulnerabilidad que ha creado el cáncer, una vulnerabilidad de temer el perder la vida; eso me pareció genial porque este es una historia sobre esperanzas, me refiero a la que tiene Kramer en el momento en que las personas que él decida con quien jugar puedan cambiar, pero esta vez no existe esa esperanza, sino una simple venganza lo cual puede hacer perder el significado de su trabajo.

The sixth film was the last one I saw of this franchise in a movie theater, I gave up completely to what SAW was because there was no emotion or it was not surprising or shocking enough, but when I read good opinions about this new film, I thought that possibly it is about recovering what gave fame to this whole story and that task was taken by the director Kevin Greutert who directed both the sixth and the seventh film within this extensive franchise. This is a small film, it had a short budget and that shows in each of the scenes; mainly I liked that because it reminded me of the first film; the problem is that unfortunately it is still repetitive, with little emotion and imagination and there is no shocking scene.

The story itself I liked; I know that in previous films it exposes the origin and motives of why the character of "John Kramer" decides to create "Jigsaw" and his twisted games, also of the need to be quick because he himself is part of a game that he knows he will lose in the end and in this opportunity, his illness is an important element because it exposes something that has rarely been seen to this character and it is about the vulnerability that cancer has created, a vulnerability of fearing to lose his life; I thought that was great because this is a story about hope, I mean the hope that Kramer has in the moment when the people he decides to play with can change, but this time there is no such hope, but a simple revenge which can make him lose the meaning of his work.

Siempre se ha hecho difícil relacionar a Tobin Bell en algún otro film y me sorprende lo icónico de su personaje que posiblemente tenga una de las mejores introducciones en una franquicia del terror; siendo sincero me pareció genial ver de vuelta a "John Kramer" y quiero hacer principalmente referencia a eso porque este personaje en específico es el principal en lo que es parte del primer y mitad del segundo acto; como dije anteriormente, Leer demuestra vulnerabilidad por el estado de su salud a causa del cáncer y enfocado en su trabajo, sabe que queda mucho por hacer en un mundo injusto; ese miedo o esa etapa de la vida del personaje se ve poco en los demás films y me gustó que en esta oportunidad se tome en cuenta; con esto hago referencia al simple trabajo de Bell en su actuación, eso lo digo por su aspecto, su esperanza, su calma y después decepción y rabia, su necesidad no de hacer justicia, sino de venganza, eso me gustó mucho en este film, una versión de Jigsaw muy pasional, cegado por la rabia y menos calculador como en realidad es.

It has always been difficult to relate to Tobin Bell in any other film and I am surprised by the iconic nature of his character that possibly has one of the best introductions in a horror franchise; being honest I thought it was great to see "John Kramer" back and I mainly want to make reference to that because this specific character is the main character in what is part of the first and half of the second act; as I said before, Leer shows vulnerability because of the state of his health due to cancer and focused on his work, he knows there is much to do in an unjust world; that fear or that stage of the character's life is rarely seen in the other films and I liked that in this opportunity it is taken into account; with this I refer to the simple work of Bell in his performance, I say that because of his appearance, his hope, his calm and then disappointment and anger, his need not for justice, but for revenge, I really liked that in this film, a version of Jigsaw very passionate, blinded by rage and less calculating as he really is.

Después de dejar atrás está franquicia y el spin-off o lo que sea que es "Spiral" (2021), nunca pensé en ver nuevamente un film de esta historia que me pareció genial en sus primeras tres películas, pero justamente con el regreso del mítico John Kramer, sentí que esta era una oportunidad que no podía dejar pasar y aunque lamentablemente sigue repitiendo fallos de los últimos films, creo que hay nuevos elementos a toda la historia que hasta pueden dar una nueva valoración a personajes como "Amanda" y "Mark Hofman", pero a pesar de todo eso, creo que sebe mejorar en ciertos ámbitos, en usar más la imaginación, el elemento de la sorpresa y no ser tan predecibles; siendo sincero hay muchas cosas que mejorar y más si esperan relanzar está franquicia, ahora con esto no digo que sea un mal film, para nada, es entretenido y funciona bien en el relato de lo que es Kramer y su motivación en muchas cosas, creo que principalmente en todo el asunto de tener un sucesor; está película está alejada de las primeras películas, pero es mucho mejor que las últimas.

After leaving behind this franchise and the spin-off or whatever "Spiral" (2021), I never thought of seeing again a film of this story that I thought was great in its first three films, but just with the return of the legendary John Kramer, I felt that this was an opportunity that I could not miss and although unfortunately still repeats failures of the last films, I think there are new elements to the whole story that can even give new value to characters like "Amanda" and "Mark Hofman", I think there are new elements to the whole story that can even give a new value to characters like "Amanda" and "Mark Hofman", but despite all that, I think it should be improved in certain areas, in using more imagination, the element of surprise and not be so predictable; being honest there are many things to improve and more if they hope to relaunch this franchise, now with this I'm not saying it's a bad film, not at all, it's entertaining and works well in the story of what Kramer is and his motivation in many things, I think mainly in the whole issue of having a successor; this film is far from the first films, but it is much better than the last ones.
