En esta época de mi vida, ver series juveniles no es prioridad; recordaba cuál fue la última que había visto e inmediatamente pensé en "Euphoria", la cual su carga dramática, dirección y actuación de varios de sus protagonistas, hacen que sea una buena producción, aunque pensé mejor y recordé que la última serie de este género que vi fue "Ms. Marvel", una producción decepcionante, aburrida y que considero el claro ejemplo del porqué decidí ver muy poco o nada de este género desde hace un tiempo, pero en algún momento aparece alguna producción que tendrá elementos llamativos que me hagan darle una nueva oportunidad como la serie a que hago reseña en esta publicación.

"School Spirits" es una serie original de Paramount+, un drama juvenil con elementos sobrenaturales que se estrenó en marzo de este año; su primera temporada cuenta con ocho episodios con duración entre 44 a 52 minutos y entre ellos se relatan los diferentes sucesos que ocurren en la secundaria del poblado Split River, Wisconsin, preferiblemente el misterio de la desaparición de "Maddie Nears" una chica que está en su último año de secundaria y que por razones está desaparecida y por diferentes pistas hace pensar que posiblemente esté muerta, pero hay una evidencia mayor que corrobora el final de Maddie y que los vivos no pueden ver y es que su espíritu está atrapado dentro de la escuela, el de ella y de otros estudiantes que por diferentes razones y en otras épocas murieron en ese mismo lugar; pero hay algo que diferencia a Maddie del resto y es que ella no recuerda como murió y eso hace que el misterio de su muerte haga que comience una investigación entre dos planos para esclarecer lo sucedido.

Primero que nada, no tenía ningún conocimiento de la serie antes del anuncio de su estreno y justamente el hecho de que en su historia exista un misterio que resolver fue lo que me atrajo de esta producción, pero no fue hasta el anuncio de que se realizará una segunda temporada lo que cerró el trato (por así decirlo) y por fin me decidí a ver esta serie que une el drama típico juvenil con elementos sobrenaturales muy simples y en mi opinión, esta sería la característica principal de esta producción, me refiero a la simpleza o sencillez del relato lo que hace funcionar a esta historia que no trata de revolucionar absolutamente nada, ya que respeta reglas y clichés impuestos hace mucho tiempo y eso es lo que más me gustó de ver porque me hizo recordar a series de los 90' y justamente la influencia de esa época fue lo que me sorprendió de "School Spirits"; recuerdo que las cadenas televisivas bombardeaban con producciones relatando historia de un grupo de adolescentes enfrentando diferentes situaciones que influyen o no en el momento de prepararse para la vida de adultos y creo que está serie adopta mucho de eso y creo que al estar alejado de este género en la actualidad me hizo experimentar cierta nostalgia.

La historia es buena, como dije anteriormente respetan mucho los clichés impuestos en el género y no tratan de hacer o demostrar algo nuevo y esto no lo considero negativo, es todo lo contrario porque hace que funcione el relato, lo hace entendible para el espectador que podrá tener la sensación de que ciertas cosas deben ocurrir y que hay otras que se deberán explorar en un futuro; con esto tampoco diré que es una historia predecible porque cada situación, cada motivo de diferentes personajes ayuda a que el misterio principal sea resuelto, eso ayuda mucho a una parte del relato en esta historia que explora diferentes temas como la paternidad, la amistad, la presión de la sociedad, las expectativas del futuro y más importante la perdida de la vida, el cómo seguir adelante cuando una vida tan joven deja de existir.

First of all, I had no knowledge of the series before the announcement of its premiere and precisely the fact that in its story there is a mystery to solve was what attracted me to this production, but it was not until the announcement that there will be a second season that sealed the deal (so to speak) and I finally decided to watch this series that unites the typical youth drama with very simple supernatural elements and in my opinion, this would be the main feature of this production, this would be the main characteristic of this production, I mean the simplicity of the story what makes this story work, it doesn't try to revolutionize anything at all, it respects rules and clichés imposed a long time ago and that's what I liked the most to watch because it reminded me of series from the 90's and precisely the influence of that time was what surprised me about "School Spirits"; I remember that TV networks bombarded with productions telling the story of a group of teenagers facing different situations that influence or not at the time of preparing for adult life and I think this series adopts much of that and I think that being away from this genre today made me experience some nostalgia.

The story is good, as I said before they respect a lot the clichés imposed in the genre and do not try to do or demonstrate something new and this I do not consider it negative, it is quite the opposite because it makes the story work, it makes it understandable for the viewer who may have the feeling that certain things must happen and that there are others that will have to be explored in the future; with this I will not say that it is a predictable story because each situation, each motive of different characters helps the main mystery to be solved, that helps a lot to a part of the story in this story that explores different themes such as parenthood, friendship, the pressure of society, the expectations of the future and most importantly the loss of life, how to move forward when such a young life ceases to exist.

No seré exigente con las actuaciones, aunque si me gustó la interpretación de Peyton List como "Maddie", está actriz tiene una actitud fuerte, algo que sabe hacer en su actuación en la serie de "Cobra Kai", pero en esta oportunidad a pesar de que su imagen es imponente, en mi opinión su personaje es muy vulnerable, es alguien bueno que le gusta disfrutar de la vida con sus amigos y más ahora cuando sabe que pronto dejara un lugar en donde ha sufrido mucho, Maddie es una chica que usa la escuela como vía de escape, pero con lo que le ha sucedido, ahora su espíritu está preso en un lugar en donde encontró felicidad; creo que la actuación de Peyton es correcta, demuestra esa vulnerabilidad, impotencia, tristeza y me gustaría que explore mejor la rabia y frustración en ciertas escenas, pero no creo que su trabajo como protagonista principal sea malo, en realidad me pareció adecuado, como dije correcto para este estilo de la serie.

I will not be demanding with the performances, although I did like the interpretation of Peyton List as "Maddie", this actress has a strong attitude, something she knows how to do in her performance in the "Cobra Kai" series, but in this opportunity despite her image is imposing, in my opinion her character is very vulnerable, she is someone good who likes to enjoy life with her friends and even more now when she knows that soon she will leave a place where she has suffered a lot, Maddie is a girl who uses school as an escape, but with what has happened to her, now her spirit is imprisoned in a place where she found happiness; I think that Peyton's performance is correct, she shows that vulnerability, helplessness, sadness and I would like her to explore better the rage and frustration in certain scenes, but I don't think her work as the main protagonist is bad, actually I thought it was adequate, as I said correct for this style of the series.

School Spirits, es una serie con buen potencial para mejorar en otros aspectos de la historia, específicamente en el ámbito sobrenatural, que parece ser el verdadero protagonista en la próxima temporada, aunque todavía los vivos tendrá importancia, lo cual hace que la característica del misterio siga teniendo mucha relevancia y para mí es vital porque así al verla espero disfrutar de los nuevos episodios que no tiene fecha de estreno. Esta serie es entretenida, tiene en su mayoría buenos personajes, principalmente lo que son fantasmas y aquí debo señalar que los vivos, son los que deben ser mejor desarrollados, ya que tantas situaciones en donde son parte de algún misterio obtiene resolución de manera sencilla y eso no me pareció bien aunque por el final de temporada es entendible ciertas decisiones, pero en mi opinión no son las mejores; aparte de ese punto negativo, debo decir que está es una serie fácil de ver, no es extensa, no la consideré aburrida y creo que hace bien en su relato dar importancia al tema de enfrentar la muerte de una persona cuando esté es muy joven, eso junto a lo ya antes citado con respecto a la vida de un adolescente en la secundaria y a la resolución de un misterio, hace un balance correcto y entretenido, por eso recomiendo está serie a quien le guste el género de drama juvenil, el cual considero como un extenso origen o introducción a esta historia.

School Spirits, is a series with good potential to improve in other aspects of the story, specifically in the supernatural area, which seems to be the real protagonist in the next season, although still the living will have importance, which makes the mystery feature continues to have much relevance and for me it is vital because that way when watching it I hope to enjoy the new episodes that has no premiere date. This series is entertaining, has mostly good characters, mainly ghosts and here I must point out that the living are the ones that should be better developed, since so many situations where they are part of some mystery get resolution in a simple way and that did not seem right to me although by the end of the season is understandable certain decisions, but in my opinion are not the best; apart from that negative point, I must say that this is an easy series to watch, it is not extensive, I did not consider it boring and I think it does well in its story to give importance to the issue of facing the death of a person when he is very young, that together with the above mentioned with respect to the life of a teenager in high school and the resolution of a mystery, makes a correct and entertaining balance, so I recommend this series to anyone who likes the genre of youth drama, which I consider as an extensive origin or introduction to this story.
