Stranger Things | "The Rightside Up" - Final Episode Review [ES - EN]

En el 2016, la euforia por "Stranger Things" fue sorprendente; los Duffer Brothers, quienes crearon la que considero como la primera gran producción de Netflix, usaron todo ingrediente para que está serie fuese un gran exito mundial, primeramente dieron protagonismo a un grupo de niños y segundo enfocar la historia en los ochenta lo cual conllevó a usar toda referencia a películas, series de TV, música, moda, juegos, y demás de esa época, cada uno de esos elementos generó nostalgia en el espectador y captó la completa atención de diferentes generaciones de televidentes por cinco temporadas, en dónde su segunda es la que (opinión personal) menos me gustó, pero en otras tres, se mantuvo una calidad de producción y relato lo cual generó enorme expectativa por su temporada final, pero lamentablemente lo que debió ser el cierre épico para una gran historia, al final fue un relato flojo y muy poco placentero.

In 2016, the hype surrounding Stranger Things was astonishing. the Duffer Brothers, who created what I consider to be Netflix's first major production, used every ingredient to make this series a huge global success. First, they gave prominence to a group of children, and second, they focused the story on the 1980s, which led to the use of references to movies, TV series, music, fashion, games, and other aspects of that era. Each of these elements generated nostalgia in the viewer and captured the full attention of different generations of viewers for five seasons, with the second season being the one I liked the least (in my personal opinion). However, in the other three seasons, the production and storytelling quality remained high, which generated enormous expectations for the final season. Unfortunately, what should have been an epic ending to a great story ended up being a weak and very unpleasant tale.

Es una verdadera pena que la quinta temporada que se dividió en dos volumenes no mantuviera la calidad, primeramente de la anterior temporada y segundo de lo correcto que fue sus primeros cuatro episodios (el Volumen 1), se perdió una gran oportunidad de ir elevando la calidad hasta que ocurriera el esperado enfrentamiento final y después el cierre de la historia de originalmente un grupo de amigos que jugaban "Dungeons & Dragons"; posiblemente mis altas expectativas sobre esta temporada arruinaron mi experiencia con este final, pero para ser sincero tenia la esperanza de que por lo menos en "The Rightside Up", título del episodio final, pudiera ver un enfrentamiento final que dejara atrás el mal sabor que dejó los tres episodios anteriores, pero no, ya que este episodio que contó con dos horas de duración, tuvo una primera mitad en dónde se llevaría a cabo la batalla final y para ser sincero, eso era lo que más me atraía del episodio y fue lo que más me decepcionó; primeramente, este debió ser un episodio con grandes secuencias de acción y personalmente no consideré en que hubiera un buen desarrollo en las escenas de la primera hora, para mí fue genérico, sin drama, sin suspenso, ni mucho menos tensión, fue repetitivo, aburrido, pero creo que lo peor fue lo predecible, ya que no se tomó ningún riesgo y fue una demostración por parte de los guionistas en la sobreprotección a todos los personajes.

It's a real shame that the fifth season, which was divided into two volumes, didn't maintain the quality of the previous season and the first four episodes (Volume 1). It missed a great opportunity to raise the quality until the long-awaited final confrontation and then the conclusion of the story of a group of friends who played Dungeons & Dragons. Perhaps my high expectations for this season ruined my experience with this ending, but to be honest, I was hoping that at least in "The Rightside Up," the title of the final episode, I would see a final confrontation that would leave behind the bad taste left by the previous three episodes, but no, since this two-hour episode had a first half where the final battle would take place, and to be honest, that was what attracted me most to the episode and what disappointed me the most. First of all, this should have been an episode with great action sequences, and personally, I didn't think the scenes in the first hour were well developed. For me, it was generic, without drama, without suspense, and much less tension. It was repetitive and boring, but I think the worst thing was how predictable it was, since no risks were taken and it was a demonstration by the writers of their overprotection of all the characters.

La segunda parte del episodio final fue la necesaria extensa despedida de los protagonistas, creo que al tener un amplio cast en esta serie, era más que necesario generar un cierre para sus historias, en especial para los primeramente cuatro amigos que culminan la etapa en sus colegios y deben dar otra más hacia su vida como adultos; el enfoque en la despedida de ellos fue lo que más me agradó del final, no hay duda que en ese aspecto, los Duffer Brothers, si hicieron algo correcto en lo que fue los episodios que dieron fin a la serie, creo que así como ocurrió en el primer episodio de la temporada, pudieron nuevamente generar esa química en dónde la nostalgia es el elemento principal, las referencias a filmes y series de los ochenta que son parte del género coming of age, estuvieron presente y eso dió vitalidad a cada uno de esos momentos y es que toda escena entre ese grupo de amigos fue en mi opinión lo mejor del episodio que culminó sus historias; lamentablemente, así como hubo cosas destacables, hubo otras que no fue de mi agrado y es que en esta temporada se decidió dar protagonismo forzado a personajes que creo no merecían tanto liderazgo en diferentes escenas, es una verdadera lástima la deficiencia en la toma de decisiones porque afectaron enormemente el relato de la temporada.

The second part of the final episode was the necessary extended farewell to the protagonists. I think that, given the large cast in this series, it was more than necessary to bring closure to their stories, especially for the four friends who are finishing high school and must take another step toward their adult lives. The focus on their farewell was what I liked most about the ending. There is no doubt that in this regard, the Duffer Brothers did something right in the episodes that ended the series. I think that, just like in the first episode of the season, they were able to recreate that chemistry where nostalgia is the main element. The references to films and series from the 1980s that are part of the coming-of-age genre were present and that gave vitality to each of those moments. In my opinion, every scene between that group of friends was the best part of the episode that culminated their stories. Unfortunately, just as there were some noteworthy things, there were others that I did not like, and that is that this season it was decided to give forced prominence to characters who I believe did not deserve so much leadership in different scenes. It is a real shame about the poor decision-making because it greatly affected the story of the season.

En términos generales, el episodio final de Stranger Things fue decepcionante, así como lo fue toda la temporada; la decisión de seguir la línea narrativa de los demás episodios, en dónde siempre hubo alguien que se ingenia un plan, en este caso antes de la batalla final, fue la gota que derramó el vaso, en ese momento solo pensaba en ver una gran batalla física y mental, pero nada de eso ocurrió, ya que fue sumamente aburrido, sin ninguna emoción, todo simple y hasta fácil; es sorprendente como los Duffer Brothers hicieron todo mal y más aún después de una muy divertida cuarta temporada con la introducción de el villano final que elevaba la historia, pero que al final no era una amenaza tan fuerte, pero eso no fue todo lo malo, ya que esa tonta decisión de separar a todos los personajes principales, me refiero a "Mike, Dustin, Lucas, Will y Eleven" y restar la relevancia de sus relación lo cual le hubiese dado más impacto al final si que la peor decisión de todas y les digo, si no me creen de lo malo que fue tanto el episodio final, así como la temporada, entonces les invito a leer las miles de teorías que existen en las redes sociales sobre lo que sus fans esperaban de ver y me refiero a un episodio extra que funcionaria como el verdadero final, creo que eso fue peor que lo visto en "Game of Thrones", pero de igual manera, a pesar de la decepción, se que cuando se estrene el spin-off, ahí estará para ver qué nuevas aventuras, con nuevos personajes y un nevo lugar en donde ocurran Cosas Extrañas.

Overall, the final episode of Stranger Things was disappointing, as was the entire season. the decision to follow the narrative line of the other episodes, where there was always someone who came up with a plan, in this case before the final battle, was the last straw. At that point, I was just looking forward to seeing a great physical and mental battle, but none of that happened. It was extremely boring, with no excitement, everything simple and even easy. It's surprising how the Duffer Brothers got everything wrong, especially after a very entertaining fourth season with the introduction of the final villain who elevated the story, but who in the end wasn't such a strong threat. But that wasn't the worst part, as the silly decision to separate all the main characters—I'm referring to "Mike, Dustin, Lucas, Will, and Eleven," and detracting from the relevance of their relationships, which would have given the ending more impact, was the worst decision of all. And I'm telling you, if you don't believe me about how bad the final episode was, as well as the season, then I invite you to read the thousands of theories that exist on social media about what fans expected to see, and I'm referring to an extra episode that would serve as the real ending. I think that was worse than what we saw in "Game of Thrones," but even so, despite the disappointment, I know that when the spin-off premieres, I'll be there to see what new adventures await, with new characters and a new place where Stranger Things happen.
