The Bear (Season 1) - Series Review [ES - EN]

A finales del pasado año como en el primer trimestre del que está en curso, se estrenaron una serie de producciones de diferentes géneros en dónde cada una usaba como base para sus historias los muchos sucesos dentro de una cocina de un restaurante; hasta tres películas se estrenaron en el transcurso de varios meses las cuales crearon cierto impacto positivo en el público, personalmente no he visto ninguna porque pensaba que pudiera caer en la equivocación de después comprarla con la producción basada en un joven jefe de cocina y de su simple restaurante, me refiero a la serie que justamente en este mes cumple un año de ser estrenada.

At the end of last year and in the first quarter of this year, a series of productions of different genres were released, each using the many events in a restaurant kitchen as the basis for their stories; Up to three movies were released in the course of several months which created a certain positive impact on the public, personally I have not seen any of them because I thought I could fall into the mistake of buying it later with the production based on a young chef and his simple restaurant, I mean the series that just this month turns one year old of being released.

"The Bear" es una serie que une los géneros de drama y comedia para en ocho episodios que conforman la primera temporada, seamos testigos de la complicada vida de Carmen "Carmy" Berzatto; un joven y exitoso Chef que deja su posición en uno de los mejores restaurantes del mundo en Nueva York, para regresar a Chicago, su ciudad natal, para hacerse cargo de "The Beef", un restaurante familiar italiano en dónde el encargado era Michael y que después de su repentina muerte, le ha dejado de herencia a Carmy; esto hará que esté buen chef debe lidiar con ciertos aspectos de un restaurante nada exitoso y justamente esa presión junto a la tristeza de perder a su hermano podrá destruir o evolucionar el legado de su familia.

"The Bear" is a series that unites the genres of drama and comedy for eight episodes that make up the first season, we witness the complicated life of Carmen "Carmy" Berzatto; a young and successful Chef who leaves his position in one of the best restaurants in the world in New York, to return to Chicago, his hometown, to take over "The Beef", an Italian family restaurant where the manager was Michael and that after his sudden death, has left Carmy as an inheritance; This will make this good chef must deal with certain aspects of an unsuccessful restaurant and just that pressure along with the sadness of losing his brother can destroy or evolve the legacy of his family.

El creador de esta serie, Christopher Storer dirige, junto a Joanna Calo, los ocho episodios de la primera temporada y mi apreciación es que cada toma es una obra de arte; la fotografía es genial y eso es debido a lo bien planeado de como posicionar la cámara en cualquiera escena, sin importar cuál simple sea; por ejemplo puede ser al ver a uno de los personajes durmiendo en la estación de policía o a otro esperando que llegue el tren; todas son una genialidad. Hay un elemento que me gustó de la manera como están dirigidos los episodios y eso es la nostalgia que sentí en ciertas escenas en donde me hicieron recordar series de TV que veía de niño, se nota mucho la influencia de series producidas de los 70' y 80', sean dramas o comedias y me gustó mucho porque es algo que por supuesto había dejado de ver hace mucho tiempo.

Tanto Storer como Calo, son parte del grupo de guionistas, el cual está completo con la inclusión de Sofya Levitsky-Weitz, Karen Joseph Adcock, Catherine Schetina y Rene Gube, decido nombrarlos a todos porque aportan muy buenas historias en los episodios que no cuentan con los dos directores cumpliendo el rol de guionistas. En sí, la historia de "The Bear" es sobre lidiar con diferentes presiones, pruebas que nos imponen o nos imponemos, esto es por diferentes motivos y eso en esta historia la cual se desarrolla en el mundo de la cocina profesional, es algo muy importante porque la necesidad de ser el mejor, de resaltar, de ganar una aprobación después de realizar un gran esfuerzo es lo normal no solo en el mundo de la cocina, sino en cualquier ámbito laboral (en este caso), ahora imagina ser el mejor o ser considerado el mejor y que no exista esa persona a la que te gustaría escuchar una felicitación, una sonrisa, un apoyo condicional, eso es lo importante en la historia de esta serie enfocada en su protagonista principal.

The creator of this series, Christopher Storer directs, along with Joanna Calo, the eight episodes of the first season and my appreciation is that each shot is a work of art; the photography is great and that is due to the well planned how to position the camera in any scene, no matter how simple it is; for example it may be to see one of the characters sleeping in the police station or another waiting for the train to arrive; all are genius. There is an element that I liked in the way the episodes are directed and that is the nostalgia I felt in certain scenes where they made me remember TV series I used to watch as a child, the influence of series produced in the 70's and 80's, whether dramas or comedies, is very noticeable and I liked it a lot because it is something that of course I had stopped watching a long time ago.

Both Storer and Calo, are part of the group of screenwriters, which is complete with the inclusion of Sofya Levitsky-Weitz, Karen Joseph Adcock, Catherine Schetina and Rene Gube, I decide to name them all because they contribute very good stories in the episodes that do not have the two directors fulfilling the role of screenwriters. In itself, the story of "The Bear" is about dealing with different pressures, tests that are imposed or we impose on us, this is for different reasons and that in this story which takes place in the world of professional cooking, is something very important because the need to be the best, to stand out, to gain approval after making a great effort is normal not only in the world of cooking, Now imagine being the best or being considered the best and not having that person you would like to hear a congratulation, a smile, a conditional support, that is what is important in the story of this series focused on its main protagonist.

El otro aspecto importante de esta producción son las actuaciones, todas desde la más simple a la más compleja es perfecta para cada suceso en cada uno de sus episodios; por supuesto que en esta parte de la reseña daré importancia a los personajes que tienen el liderazgo de la historia; comenzaré con "Sydney Adamu" interpretada por Ayo Edebiri, creo que cualquier persona se puede enfocar en el personaje de "Sydney" o relacionarla con cualquier persona; me gusta como pareciera estar intimidada por ciertas situaciones, pero creo que es tan decente o educada para ir gritando y dejando en evidencia a quien quiera minimizar su desempeño en su trabajo; el personaje es fuerte, aunque por los momentos todavía depende de la aprobación, pero creo que su personaje debe ser el que seguramente mejor evolución tendrá en el futuro de esta historia; otro personaje importante en esta historia es el de "Richie Jerimovich" Interpretado por Ebon Moss-Bachrach, él es el típico personaje ruidoso, difícil de lidiar porque es combativo y siempre quiere imponer su ley sobre todos; en mi opinión, así como sucede con Sidney, también tiene la oportunidad de evolucionar, es un personaje que no demuestra muy bien sus sentimientos y creo que con los lamentables sucesos que dan origen a esta historia, de una manera u otra deberá ir cambiando poco a poco; voy a cerrar mi opinión con respecto a los personajes principales con justamente el que lidera está historia, "Carmen 'Carmy' Berzatto" Interpretado por Jeremy Allen White; Carmen es mi personaje favorito de esta historia, es un personaje solitario con el peso del dolor por la perdida de su hermano, ese dolor no le dejé ni un minuto de detenerse y pensar que hacer y es que justamente necesita un ritmo constante, una exigencia repetida, tener presión que le haga quebrarse frente a otros y eso es porque de esa manera no podrá lidiar con la muerte de su hermano; no hay duda que Jeremy hace un gran trabajo.

The other important aspect of this production are the performances, all from the simplest to the most complex is perfect for each event in each of its episodes; of course in this part of the review I will give importance to the characters that have the leadership of the story; I will start with "Sydney Adamu" played by Ayo Edebiri, I think anyone can focus on the character of "Sydney" or relate her to anyone; i like how she seemed to be intimidated by certain situations, but i think she is so decent or polite to go shouting and leaving in evidence whoever wants to minimize her performance in her job; the character is strong, although for the moments she still depends on approval, but i think her character must be the one that surely will have the best evolution in the future of this story; another important character in this story is "Richie Jerimovich" Played by Ebon Moss-Bachrach, he is the typical loud character, difficult to deal with because he is combative and always wants to impose his law over everyone; in my opinion, just as it happens with Sidney, he also has the opportunity to evolve, he is a character that does not show his feelings very well and I think that with the unfortunate events that give rise to this story, in one way or another he will have to change little by little; I will close my opinion regarding the main characters with precisely the one that leads this story, "Carmen 'Carmy' Berzatto" Played by Jeremy Allen White; Carmen is my favorite character in this story, she is a lonely character with the weight of pain for the loss of her brother, that pain did not let her even a minute to stop and think what to do and she needs a constant rhythm, a repeated demand, to have pressure that makes her break in front of others and that is because that way she will not be able to deal with the death of her brother; there is no doubt that Jeremy does a great job.

He visto pocas series en estos últimos meses y puedo decir que está es una de las mejores; este formato de relatar una historia en 30 o más minutos por cada episodio es acertado y a pesar de que en algún momento haya leído críticas a este estilo de hacer series de TV en dónde justamente se arregla una situación en 30 minutos, estoy obligado a decir que está serie sabe crear un relato real en cada uno de sus episodios; creo que el éxito de The Bear, aparte de su dirección y la actuación de sus protagonistas, también se debe a las similitudes que podemos conseguir en esta historia; como anteriormente he dicho, cada personaje por lo más simple que sea o por el tiempo que tenga en escena, puede sentirse real y creo que podemos relacionarlo con algunos aspectos personales o de personas que conozcamos y eso es lo que más me ha gustado de esta serie la cual ha estrenado su segunda temporada y espero la semana próxima poder disfrutarla por completo.

I have seen few series in these last months and I can say that this is one of the best I have seen; this format of telling a story in 30 or more minutes per episode is right and even though at some point I have read criticisms to this style of making TV series where a situation is justly fixed in 30 minutes, I am obliged to say that this series knows how to create a real story in each of its episodes; I think the success of The Bear, apart from its direction and the performance of its protagonists, is also due to the similarities that we can get in this story; as I said before, each character, no matter how simple it is or how much time it has in scene, can feel real and I think we can relate it with some personal aspects or people we know and that's what I liked most about this series which has premiered its second season and I hope next week I can enjoy it completely.
