The Last of Us | "Through the Valley" - Episode Review [ES - EN]

El pasado domingo fue estrenado el segundo episodio de la segunda temporada de "The Last of Us" el cual se llamó "Through tne Valley" y se enfoca en acontecimientos traumáticos para todos los personajes envueltos en esta historia. El título de este episodio es tomado del tema musical del mismo nombre, escrito e interpretado por Shawn James, en el cual en su primera estrofa relata que deberá transitar por el valle de las sombras de la muerte, pero no teme a ninguna maldad porque está ciego a todo y su mente y su pistola le da confort porque él sabe que deberá matar a sus enemigos cuando vengan; todas esas palabras son un indicativo de lo que vivirá el personaje de Ellie desde ahora hasta el momento de finalizar su historia.

Lo sucedido en el segundo episodio pone fin a la encrucijada entre la primera y segunda temporada; el primer episodio fue la base para conectarnos nuevamente con esta historia y mostrar ciertos sucesos que todavía cuestan entender por qué han sucedido y lo que personalmente me hizo pensar que justamente en este episodio se desarrollarían con el uso de flashbacks, pero creo que ese factor deberá esperar y lo cual será aún más importante después de todo lo acontecido en este traumático episodio.

Del guion de Manzin y la dirección de Mark Mylod; este episodio tiene una carga emocional y de acción sorprendente; el balance de ambos géneros hace que se sea sumamente entretenido e impactante tanto para el público que ha jugado el videojuego y por supuesto para quienes estamos descubriendo está historia por la serie de TV; quiero enfocarme primeramente en la parte de la acción la cual está principalmente generada por el ataque de los "clickers", los cuales parece que en cinco años (dentro de la historia) han evolucionado convirtiéndose en un peligro mayor del que ya eran; Mylod nos regala una perspectiva de como un problema puede crecer y convertirse en algo imposible de superar, crea con muy poco o tal vez de manera muy rápida, escenas con mucha tensión, desesperación, caos y desalentadoras, todo eso enfocándome en lo que es el desenlace de acontecimientos precedidos por la confianza, el orden y por supuesto control, algo que no existe y que deja a una comunidad nuevamente en peligro por el ataque de infectados; esto me hace recordar que la sociedad pareciera que nunca está verdaderamente preparada por el mal que pueda aparecer.

From the script of Manzin and the direction of Mark Mylod; this episode has a surprising emotional and action load; the balance of both genres makes it highly entertaining and shocking for both the audience that has played the videogame and of course for those of us who are discovering this story through the TV series; I want to focus first on the action part which is mainly generated by the attack of the "clickers", which seems that in five years (within the story) have evolved becoming a greater danger than they already were; Mylod gives us a perspective of how a problem can grow and become something impossible to overcome, creates with very little or perhaps very quickly, scenes with a lot of tension, despair, chaos and discouraging, all that focusing on what is the outcome of events preceded by trust, order and of course control, something that does not exist and that leaves a community again in danger by the attack of infected; this reminds me that society never seems to be truly prepared for the evil that may appear.

Con respecto a la carga emocional del episodio, es lo que más me ha gustado; tanto el guion de Manzin con diálogos cortos, mostrando rabia, poder y tristeza así como lo referente a dejar atrás el caos generado por un masivo ataque a enfocarse en un grupo de personas en una cabaña en dónde se desarrolla una venganza, justamente esa palabra es lo que pienso que representa esta segunda y posiblemente tercera parte de esta historia, es el motivo mayor, ya que lamentablemente atrás quedó el motivo de la protección, del amor de un padre hacia su adoptiva hija y solo queda resentimiento, odio, la necesidad de hacer justicia desde la venganza, una serie de sentimientos generados por las consecuencias de un evento violento, sin razonamiento, llevado a cabo por un hombre que perdió todo y que sin saberlo también arrebató la vida a dos jóvenes mujeres que estarán hundidas en un irracional odió.

Nuevamente, repito que los acontecimientos del acto final de este episodio esperaba verlos mucho después en esta temporada, me sorprendió que ocurriera tan rápido y eso me ha generado una gran expectativa de como se desenvuelve está historia en los próximos episodios; personalmente creía que este segunda parte estaba conformada por un innecesario relleno, pero el evento inevitable y traumático que ocurre me hizo preguntar ¿Qué sucederá después? ¿Cómo harán para generar ese sentimiento de culpa que a la vez genera más odio? Y sé que muchos, quienes ha jugado el videojuego saben qué sucede después, pero mi expectativa se basa en como debe ser ese relato de la historia de Ellie, su necesaria evolución que la haga transitar por el valle de las sombras de la muerte, sin miedo y ganas de venganza, eso es lo que me genera el final de este episodio que invita al espectador a posiblemente tener el debate de lo hecho por Abby estuvo bien o no o por como lo hizo y si lo que debe hacer Ellie será aceptado por ser lo correcto; esto es lo fascinante de este gran episodio que cuenta con grandes actuaciones de sus protagonistas, en especial de Kaitlyn Dever quien expresa el dolor, ira, poder y satisfacción en el momento en su personaje consume su venganza; no hay duda que este fue de los mejores episodios de esta serie.

And I know that many, who have played the video game know what happens next, but my expectation is based on how it should be that account of Ellie's story, its necessary evolution that makes her walk through the valley of the shadow of death, without fear and desire for revenge, that's what generates me the end of this episode that invites the viewer to possibly have the debate of what Abby did was right or wrong or how she did it and if what Ellie should do will be accepted for being the right thing to do; this is what is fascinating about this great episode that has great performances from its main characters, especially Kaitlyn Dever who expresses the pain, anger, power and satisfaction in the moment in which her character consumes her revenge; there is no doubt that this was one of the best episodes of this series.
