Esta es la tercera película dirigida por Robert Eggers y a la vez es su primera gran producción con un mayor presupuesto de las que tuvieron sus anteriores proyectos; sin ninguna duda era una de las películas que más quería ver este año, pienso que con muy poco, Eggers he realizado un gran trabajo en relatar historias creando muy buenas imágenes y en este nuevo proyecto tenía la oportunidad de justamente crear excelentes tomas que acompañan a una gran historia de venganza. Lo que primeramente encontré en esta historia fue el uso de colores para diferenciar los lugares en donde transcurre está historia, cuando se está en el norte todo es oscuro en dónde predomina el azul, marrón, verde, pero como dije, todo en un tono muy oscuro, cosa contraria es donde cuando se está más alejado del norte, el son colores con más luz, mucha más claridad; aparte de esto y dónde el presupuesto de este film ayuda es el tener tomas de exteriores que son magistrales, muchas tomas naturales y en dónde está el uso del CGI, son hermosas; esto lo destacado porque este director ha creado con tan poco muy buenas tomas en diferentes escenas en sus dos películas anteriores y ahora con un mejor presupuesto no tiene problemas de seguir haciendo un gran trabajo; en esta producción existe algo que tal vez no se ha visto en sus anteriores trabajos y eso son las escenas de acción, todas están filmadas de muy buena manera, la tensión, agresividad y fuerza son un factor que se ve en cada una de estas escenas, están muy bien hechas y las considero de suma importancia por el tema principal de esta historia.

What I first found in this story was the use of colors to differentiate the places where this story takes place, when you are in the north everything is dark where blue, brown, green predominates, but as I said, everything in a very dark tone, the opposite is where when you are farther north, the colors are brighter, much clearer; apart from this and where the budget of this film helps is to have exterior shots that are masterful, many natural shots and where the use of CGI is, they are beautiful; This stands out because this director has created with so little very good shots in different scenes in his two previous films and now with a better budget he has no problem to continue doing a great job; in this production there is something that perhaps has not been seen in his previous works and that are the action scenes, all are filmed in a very good way, the tension, aggressiveness and strength are a factor that is seen in each of these scenes, they are very well done and I consider them of utmost importance for the main theme of this story.

Está historia está basada en la leyenda escandinava de Amleth; que tiene varias versiones escritas, pero tanto Eggers como el novelista islandés Sjón, tomaron influencia en estas versiones y otros historias para recrear una propia y así tener está historia épica llena de violencia, traición y venganza; el guion es uno de los muchos puntos positivos del film, la inclusión de Sjón hace que exista una fuerte influencia en los diálogos dónde se hace presente todas las creencias nórdicas aparte de esto la elegancia del uso de la palabra en personajes que son más que nada guerreros, claro no todos, sino los que están unidos a la realeza o que tienen un mayor protagonismo, pero de igual forma no deja de ser fascinante que cada uno pareciera que se estuviera relatando un poema nórdico y eso es algo que destacó en este film. Me gusta que se refleje todo en un niño inocente, fiel a sus creencias, que rige su vida después de experimentar un evento traumático, un juramento que lo convertirá en un animal sediento de venganza y que nubla toda decisión que lo haga sentir una verdadera paz, ya desde ahí la historia es maravillosa, atrayente y hasta puedo considerar perfecta por todo lo que le acompaña que hace referencia a la mitología vikinga.

This story is based on the Scandinavian legend of Amleth; which has several written versions, but both Eggers and the Icelandic novelist Sjón, took influence in these versions and other stories to recreate one of their own and thus have this epic story full of violence, betrayal and revenge; The script is one of the many positive points of the film, the inclusion of Sjón makes that there is a strong influence in the dialogues where all the Nordic beliefs are present, apart from this the elegance of the use of words in characters that are mostly warriors, of course not all, but those who are linked to royalty or who have a greater role, but it is still fascinating that each one seems to be telling a Nordic poem and that is something that stood out in this film. I like that everything is reflected in an innocent boy, faithful to his beliefs, who governs his life after experiencing a traumatic event, an oath that will turn him into an animal thirsty for revenge and that clouds any decision that makes him feel a real peace, and from there the story is wonderful, attractive and I can even consider perfect for everything that accompanies it that refers to the Viking mythology.

He visto varios trabajos de Alexander Skarsgård y no tengo ninguna duda en decir que está es su mejor actuación; sé que como actor y productor (lo es en este film) busco siempre realizar un proyecto basado en las grandes historias de Vikingos y pienso que ese deseo fue lo suficiente para qué realizará un gran trabajo; su interpretación como "Amleth" en su versión adulta es muy bien hecha, es un personaje decidido y convencido en lograr un juramento, es enfocado, pero hay algo que me sorprende de su interpretación y es que a pesar de la corpulencia, la fuerza del personaje, todavía sigue siendo un niño para muchas cosas, no dejar de ser un infante primer feliz con su padre y después lleno de rabia por todo lo que le quitaron y eso lo transmite este actor en todo la historia, como dije, estoy seguro de que está es la mejor actuación de su carrera. Aparte de Skarsgård, la breve actuación de los demás actores es perfecta, por ejemplo la que hace Ethan Hawke en su interpretación del Rey Aurvandill War-Raven; breve, pero fuerte aparición y en dónde puedo decir que tiene mi diálogo favorito del film en un momento importante en su historia, en realidad cada frase dictamina su vida y la de su hijo y es algo que encontré fascinante; también me debo referir a la actuación de Anya Taylor-Joy como "Olga" una mujer valiente, fiel, fuerte e importante en esta historia porque pienso que es una luz en el túnel para la vida de venganza que tiene Amleth y eso lo interpreta muy bien esta gran actriz y es que no falla, no importa que producción vea de ella, sea en un papel protagónico o co-estelar, Anya hace un gran trabajo. Siendo completamente sincero, cada actor hace una gran actuación, todos tienen un momento para brillar y eso es algo que hace que la película sea mejor, Nicole Kidman como "Gudrún" tiene una escena muy buena junto a Skarsgård y también Claes Bang quien interpreta a "Fjölnir" quien en la mayoría de las escenas pareciera algo frío y distante, pero al momento de mostrar sus sentimientos es reacción pura; como dije, todos son excelentes en este film.

Apart from Skarsgård, the brief performance of the other actors is perfect, for example that of Ethan Hawke in his interpretation of King Aurvandill War-Raven; brief, but strong appearance and where I can say that he has my favorite dialogue of the film in an important moment in his story, actually every sentence dictates his life and that of his son and it is something that I found fascinating; I must also refer to the performance of Anya Taylor-Joy as "Olga" a brave, faithful, strong and important woman in this story because I think she is a light in the tunnel for the life of revenge that Amleth has and that is played very well by this great actress and it does not fail, no matter what production I see of her, whether in a leading or co-starring role, Anya does a great job. Being completely honest, every actor gives a great performance, everyone has a moment to shine and that is something that makes the film better, Nicole Kidman as "Gudrún" has a very good scene next to Skarsgård and also Claes Bang who plays "Fjölnir" who in most of the scenes seems somewhat cold and distant, but at the moment of showing her feelings is pure reaction; as I said, everyone is excellent in this film.

Al momento del estreno de este film, tuve la oportunidad de leer alguna opinión las cuales hacen referencia a que está historia es una versión de "El Rey León" y al ver The Northman el único parecido que encontré fue la historia de un príncipe que vio la traición de cuál fue víctima su padre, pero no solo encontré similitud a ese famoso film animado, sino a la historia creada por William Shakespeare, "Hamlet"; cabe destacar que esta obra es basada o influenciada por la leyenda de Amleth, historia que también influenció en este film de Robert Eggers y recordemos que Hamlet fue gran influencia de la película animada de Disney, es por eso que hablar de que está película es una copia de otra es algo completamente equívoco y si debemos referirnos a qué The Northman tiene un parecido a otro film, es mejor nombrar a "Conan the Barbarian", lo cual sin ninguna duda existe grandes similitudes, pero a pesar de todo eso, pienso que está es uno de los mejores films que se han estrenado en este año; cinematográficamente es genial, muy buenas actuaciones, excelentes diálogos y una fascinante historia de venganza, justamente es el desarrollo de una venganza que está obligada a cumplirse es lo que la hace tan buena; me gusta que haya cumplido mis expectativas y sé que Eggers tuvo problemas en edición y tal vez sea la última vez que haga un film con tan gran presupuesto, pero eso no evita de que sea un gran director y que espere con ansias sus futuros proyectos.
