The Stranger - Film Review [ESP/ENG]
En muchas producciones basadas en hechos reales es inevitable el uso de fragmentos de ficción en sus historias para crear interés en el público; las libertades que se toman ciertos guionistas, directores y productores es necesario para que ciertas historias encajen en la fórmula la cual estamos habituados de ver tanto en films cómo en series de TV; esta decisión de relatar una historia de cualquier género es válido porque es necesario crear emoción al espectador en el momento de ver escenas de acción o suspenso y justamente ese tipo de escenas pueden dictaminar el ritmo del film y muchas películas o series dependen de realizar esos cambios, pero en el film que hago reseña en esta oportunidad, trata de hacer algo diferente y esa puede ser una decisión que guste o no al público en general.
In many productions based on real events it is inevitable the use of fragments of fiction in their stories to create interest in the public; the liberties taken by certain screenwriters, directors and producers is necessary for certain stories to fit into the formula which we are used to seeing in films and TV series; this decision to tell a story of any genre is valid because it is necessary to create excitement to the viewer at the time of seeing action scenes or suspense and just such scenes can dictate the pace of the film and many films or series depend on making these changes, but in the film that I review in this opportunity, tries to do something different and that may be a decision that the general public likes or dislikes.
Creo que la mayoría de thrillers que he visto son historias "Slow Burn"; es algo sumamente inevitable porque es necesario que el desarrollo de una historia, la cual depende desde que punto de vista se relate, tenga justamente un paso lento hasta que se llegue a su desenlace; muchas cosas pueden o no suceder, pero eso no evita de lo necesario que es que este tipo de films tenga un ritmo pausado y "The Stranger" es un claro ejemplo; este film es basado en un libro el cual recibió el nombre "The Sting: The Undercover Operation That Caught Daniel Morcombe's Killer" el cual fue escrito por Kate Kyriacou, esta novela relata cómo la fuerza policial de un estado de Australia realizó una operación para esclarecer uno de los casos más impactantes de Australia; ahora en el film vemos una historia en dónde un hombre será el principal objetivo en un caso de secuestro y desaparición siendo la víctima un niño; esto hará que un gran grupo de policías encubiertos deberán hacer lo imposible esperando que en algún momento el sospechoso principal pueda dar las pistas para dar fin a uno de los casos más graves que ha sucedido en Australia.
I think most thrillers I have seen are "Slow Burn" stories; it is something extremely inevitable because it is necessary that the development of a story, which depends on the point of view from which it is told, has a slow pace until it reaches its denouement; many things may or may not happen, but that does not avoid the need for this type of film to have a slow pace and "The Stranger " is a clear example; this film is based on a book which received the name "The Sting: The Undercover Operation That Caught Daniel Morcombe's Killer" which was written by Kate Kyriacou, this novel tells how the police force of an Australian state carried out an operation to clear up one of the most shocking cases in Australia; now in the film we see a story where a man will be the main target in a case of kidnapping and disappearance being the victim a child; this will make a large group of undercover police must do the impossible hoping that at some point the main suspect can give the clues to end one of the most serious cases that has happened in Australia.
El film fue dirigido y escrito por el director australiano Thomas M. Wright; este es su segunda vez que cumple el rol de dirigir un film y me ha sorprendido; su trabajo es completamente excelente, las diferentes tomas que realiza en las muchas escenas son muy buenas, muy artísticas y es que la fotografía es de lo mejor; me gustó que realizará muchas tomas en exteriores, ya que de esta manera funciona aún más la historia porque todo sucede lugares que dan la sensación de ser pacíficos, tranquilos aunque son también solitarios y muy alejado de todo. Lo otro que pude percatar es el uso de colores oscuros, nada brillante, muy poca iluminación y parece que para esta historia, era algo adecuado porque los personajes, todos, parecieran estar rodeados de algún tipo de oscuridad.
La historia puede considerarse simple, ya que demuestra en su relato como es posible que un simple hombre puede ser consumido por la maldad, por la misma oscuridad concentrada dentro y que lo puede convertir en un monstruo y hasta una posible víctima; eso junto al relato o punto de vista de uno de los protagonistas es lo que más me ha gustado del film. Esta historias siempre debe existir un motivo, necesidad o medio que impulsa a los personajes de estas historias a hacer diferentes cosas y me parece que bien que en vez de tratar de explicar del porqué suceden estos hechos, demostrar un motivo, se enfoca en un primer paso, importante paso para esclarecer un horrible crimen; la manera como se planeó el relato de esta historia es muy bueno, pudo ser más lienal, pero era evidente de que si hay una historia que contar de la desaparición de un pequeño niño, esa era de las personas que hicieron lo imposible para obtener justicia.
The film was directed and written by the Australian director Thomas M. Wright; this is his second time in the role of directing a film and he has surprised me; his work is completely excellent, the different shots he takes in the many scenes are very good, very artistic and the photography is the best; I liked that he takes many shots on location, because this way the story works even more because everything happens in places that give the feeling of being peaceful, quiet but are also lonely and far away from everything. The other thing I noticed is the use of dark colors, nothing bright, very little lighting and it seems that for this story, it was something appropriate because the characters, all of them, seem to be surrounded by some kind of darkness.
The story can be considered simple, as it demonstrates in its story how it is possible that a simple man can be consumed by evil, by the same darkness concentrated inside and that can turn him into a monster and even a possible victim; that together with the story or point of view of one of the protagonists is what I liked most about the film. These stories must always have a motive, need or means that drives the characters of these stories to do different things and I think it is good that instead of trying to explain why these events happen, to show a reason, it focuses on a first step, an important step to clarify a horrible crime; the way the story of this story was planned is very good, it could have been more linear, but it was clear that if there is a story to tell about the disappearance of a little boy, it was about the people who did the impossible to get justice.
Las actuaciones de Joel Edgerton y Sean Harris son muy buenas, sus personajes han visto muy de cerca la oscuridad, aunque uno lucha por expulsarla de su sistema y el otro lucha con las consecuencias de sucumbir ante la maldad creada por esa misma oscuridad. Me pareció excelente que estos dos personajes tengan mucha similitud y es algo que ayuda al relato de este film que en base se trata sobre una batalla entre el bien y el mal, reconocer que existe la maldad en el mundo y que en momentos es difícil combatir porque sin importar quien seas, en algún momento puedes ser víctima o victimario, dependiendo claramente de factores que te puede empujar a realizar cosas que seguramente nunca pensantes que podías realizar; creo que los personajes "Mark" y "Henry" son ejemplo del bien y el mal, de esa batalla interna, de como afecta ver tanta maldad y de como debes lidiar todos esos traumas para después tener una vida normal; en mi opinión es un gran trabajo de ambos actores.
The performances of Joel Edgerton and Sean Harris are very good, their characters have seen the darkness up close, although one struggles to expel it from his system and the other struggles with the consequences of succumbing to the evil created by that same darkness. I thought it was excellent that these two characters have a lot of similarity and it is something that helps the story of this film that is based on a battle between good and evil, recognizing that there is evil in the world and that at times it is difficult to fight because no matter who you are, at some point you can be a victim or victimizer, depending clearly on factors that can push you to do things that surely you never thought you could do; I think the characters "Mark" and "Henry" are an example of good and evil, of that internal battle, of how it affects to see so much evil and how you have to deal with all those traumas to then have a normal life; in my opinion it is a great job by both actors.
The Stranger me sorprendió, me pareció una historia excelente, un relato que no está alejado en mostrar como un caso puede afectar a quienes lo lideran y eso posiblemente se convierta en un cliché, pero creo que la diferencia de esta historia a las demás es que no existe esa necesidad de crear tanta tensión y suspenso a la hora de crear un caso, de llevar a cabo una operación, creo que eso se sintió real y tal vez por eso considero que este film por momentos se sintió diferente. Puede ser que por ser una historia pausada, lenta, muchas personas la consideren aburrida y siendo sincero, el film pareciera que por momentos le cuesta arrancar, pero en realidad es que la manera del resto del cómo se va desarrollando el film puede causar que el espectador pierde el ritmo de la historia, pero hay muchas pistas para saber cómo es el relato hasta que llega un momento en dónde todo va encajando y se hace mejor. Otra cosa que quiero señalar es que a pesar de ser basada en un hecho real, en ningún momento enseña ninguna atrocidad y eso es algo muy importante porque este fue un horrible crimen y es justo que exista un respeto por los familiares de la víctima y está es sin ninguna duda otra gran diferencia con muchas producciones dentro de este género. Sí desean ver un thriller lento, con buenas actuaciones, buena dirección y buena historia; recomiendo este film el cual pueden encontrar en Netflix.
The Stranger surprised me, I thought it was an excellent story, a story that is not far from showing how a case can affect those who lead it and that may become a cliché, but I think the difference of this story to the others is that there is no need to create so much tension and suspense when creating a case, to carry out an operation, I think that felt real and maybe that's why I think this film felt different at times. It may be that because it is a slow, slow story, many people consider it boring and to be honest, the film seems that at times it is difficult to start, but in reality is that the way the rest of how the film is developing can cause the viewer to lose the rhythm of the story, but there are many clues to know how the story is until it reaches a point where everything fits together and becomes better. Another thing I want to point out is that despite being based on a real event, at no time shows any atrocity and that is something very important because this was a horrible crime and it is right that there is respect for the victim's family and this is certainly another big difference with many productions in this genre. If you want to see a slow thriller, with good performances, good direction and good story; I recommend this film which you can find on Netflix.

un thriller seco, como esos paisajes desérticos australianos. Excelente dupla actoral de Joel Edgerton y Sean Harris, pero es este ultimo el que me gusto mas su personaje, en esas escenas donde se va elevando la tensión, haciéndonos creer que puede pasar algo en el momento menso esperado. El personaje de Sean Harris es muy perturbador, al menos para mi, al estar basado en una hecho real. Muy buen film del cual se habla poco.
Me hubiera gustado ver más crudeza en el relato del crimen, pero creo que eso hubiera arruinado la interpretación de su personaje y le quita esa realismo que tiene en el film.
Me gusta que muestren la diferencia entre policías que deben lidiar con criminales sin escrúpulos y los policías que no saben lidiar con esas personas; eso me pareció excelente de esta película que es tal como dices, pocos hablan de este film.

Cuando tenga la oportunidad la veo, ver producciones de otros lados que no sea USA hace que tengas otro punto de vista de como se hacen en otros rincones del mundo, muy interesante
Tengo la practica de ver los trailers después de ver la película y en realidad solo leo las breves sinopsis y alguna que otra opinion; no sabia que era basada en un hecho de la vida real y mucho menos que se desarrolle en Australia y de igual manera que le sucede a usted, disfruto de ver alguna que otra producción que no sea norteamericana.
No he visto este films, pero si se basa en hechos reales sin duda para mí vale la pena verla, me gusta de ese género, sobre todo si muestra esa oscuridad y a la vez realidad del ser humano, un buen resumen, espero poder verla, saludos 👏👏

I actually forgot I had watched this until seeing your writeup. I thought it was really good and I especially like how they are able to make you sympathize with almost every character, good or bad, that is in it. It's definitely worth a watch and I'm glad I didn't put it down in the first 20 minutes because they are actually kind of slow.
That's right, The Stranger is a slow film, but I think the direction and performances keep you looking forward to what will happen.
