The Wrath of Becky - Movie Review [ES - EN]

Hace tres años disfruté de un film perteneciente a los géneros: Home Invasion, Coming of Age, acción, humor negro y slasher; un film simple, rápido, directo y muy entretenido, me refiero a "Becky"; una producción que me sorprendió gratamente por todas las características antes citadas y en dónde su joven protagonista hizo un buen trabajo interpretando a un personaje que se siente sumamente cómodo siendo vengativo, despiadado y violento.

Three years ago I enjoyed a film belonging to the genres: Home Invasion, Coming of Age, action, black humor and slasher; a simple, fast, direct and very entertaining film, I am referring to "Becky"; a production that pleasantly surprised me for all the above mentioned characteristics and where its young protagonist did a good job playing a character who feels extremely comfortable being vengeful, ruthless and violent.

Desde el momento que vi "Becky", me sorprendió por la dirección, guion y actuación de sus protagonistas y por eso esperaba que esa historia no quedará en una solo parte y que se realizará otro film explorando la vida de esta violenta chica y puedo decir que me pareció grato noticia no solo de la producción de su secuela, sino de lo rápido de su estreno. En "The Wrath of Becky", veremos qué ha sucedido en los últimos tres años en la vida de "Becky" la cual ha pasado por gran número de casas de adopción, pero que todavía parece no encontrar un lugar al que sienta como un hogar, pero justamente al momento de por fin conectar con otra persona que le transmite cierta confianza, un grupo de hombres aparece y le arrebata su controlada paz y es en ese momento en dónde Becky entenderá que su naturaleza será el hacer pagar de una manera muy violenta a quienes le han hecho daño.

From the moment I saw "Becky", I was surprised by the direction, script and acting of its protagonists and therefore I was hoping that this story will not remain in a single part and that another film exploring the life of this violent girl will be made and I can say that I was pleased to hear not only of the production of its sequel, but also of the speed of its release. In "The Wrath of Becky", we will see what has happened in the last three years in the life of "Becky" who has gone through a large number of foster homes, but still does not seem to find a place that feels like home, but just when she finally connects with another person who gives her some confidence, a group of men appears and snatches her controlled peace and it is at that moment where Becky will understand that her nature will be to pay in a very violent way to those who have hurt her.

La pareja de directores del anterior film, Jonathan Milott y Cary Murnion, hicieron un trabajo excelente creando escenas con muchas influencias del cine de los 70' y 80', más que nada del género Slasher de esa época, esa fue una de las características que me gustaron, igual de lo gráfica y hasta gore de sus escenas; ahora, en esta secuela, la dirección fue de Matt Angel y Suzanne Coote los cuales decidieron darle más dinamismo a la historia, posiblemente con un tono más de los 90' y del 2000; creo que es mucho más rápida que la anterior, en dónde un buen uso de edición ayuda a las escenas cómicas; me gusta mantengan o le den prioridad a las escenas gráficas, teniendo el buen uso del gore y en dónde hay una en específico que me hizo recordar al film "Pearl".

El guion es muy simple, no es el mejor, no hay mucho que analizar y es que cumple con el cliché de films de terror y acción en dónde de un lado está el héroe o en esta oportunidad, el victimario y del otro están las víctimas, todo dependerá de la manera de escribir como van cayendo uno por uno y en eso sí destacaré algunas cosas del guion escrito por Matt Angel; primero que nada este film tiene un excelente uso de la comedia, es divertido en varios momentos, más que nada lo referente a Becky y su modo de lidiar con ciertas situaciones antes de actuar, eso me pareció bien; lo otro es lo calculado en ciertas escenas en dónde está bien planeado para que no se ponga en duda diferentes sucesos en film, personalmente pensaba "¿Cómo explicaran eso?" Y después veía la resolución inmediata con acciones más que justificadas aunque al final está es una historia de una chica de 16 años contra un grupo de personas completamente locas.

The pair of directors of the previous film, Jonathan Milott and Cary Murnion, did an excellent job creating scenes with many influences of the 70's and 80's cinema, more than anything of the Slasher genre of that time, that was one of the characteristics that I liked, as well as the graphic and even gore of their scenes; now, in this sequel, the direction was by Matt Angel and Suzanne Coote who decided to give more dynamism to the story, possibly with a more 90's and 2000's tone; I think it is much faster than the previous one, where a good use of editing helps the comic scenes; I like to keep or give priority to the graphic scenes, having the good use of gore and where there is one in specific that reminded me of the film "Pearl".

The script is very simple, it is not the best, there is not much to analyze and is that it meets the cliché of horror and action films where one side is the hero or in this case, the victimizer and the other are the victims, everything will depend on the way of writing as they fall one by one and in that I will highlight some things of the script written by Matt Angel; first of all this film has an excellent use of comedy, it's funny in several moments, mostly about Becky and her way of dealing with certain situations before acting, I thought that was good; the other thing is the calculated in certain scenes where it is well planned so that different events in the film are not questioned, personally I thought "How will they explain that?"And then I saw the immediate resolution with more than justified actions even though in the end this is a story of a 16 year old girl against a group of completely crazy people.

Lo muy grato tanto de la primera como segunda película de "Becky" es la interpretación de Lulu Wilson; así como me sorprendió hace 3 años, nuevamente lo sigue haciendo, con una interpretación muy divertida de una chica que mentalmente está rota y que tiene la necesidad de expresar la rabia que contiene por los traumas que ha experimentado y que se le hace muy difícil de superar. Esta actriz que a pesar de tener 17 años de edad, tiene experiencia por participar en buenos films de terror y que se nota la comodidad al interpretar a este personaje y se nota porque definitivamente es la estrella, no hay nadie por encima de su personaje. Me gusta que explore algo de madurez, aunque sigue demostrando momentos infantiles de su personaje, pero no hay que olvidar que sigue siendo una chica de 16 año y por eso no considero que el trabajo de esta actriz sea sobreactuado; para mí es lo mejor de la película.

What is very pleasing in both the first and second "Becky" movies is the performance of Lulu Wilson; just as she surprised me 3 years ago, she continues to do so again, with a very funny interpretation of a girl who is mentally broken and who has the need to express the rage that she contains because of the traumas she has experienced and that is very difficult to overcome. This actress who despite being 17 years old, has experience from participating in good horror films and you can tell how comfortable she is playing this character and you can tell because she is definitely the star, there is no one above her character. I like that she explores some maturity, although she still shows childish moments of her character, but we must not forget that she is still a 16 year old girl and that's why I don't consider the work of this actress to be overacted; for me she is the best of the film.

Me gustó The Wrath of Becky aunque no es mejor que el primer film; creo que era necesario traer de vuelta a este personaje por los fans que creó hace tres años con su primer film y porque ahora necesita crear nuevos fans y por eso me pareció bien actualizar la "Becky" y uso "actualizar" en términos sobre que ha sucedido con ella aunque también hago referencias a otras cosas como haciéndola más caricaturesca o convirtiendo esta historia en una sátira sobre que castigo deberían tener las personas que representan el mal en esta historia y que mejor que alguien que está completamente perdido en su mente, que tiene una extraña y violenta manera de hacer justicia para enfrentar a racistas, terroristas y demás; eso para mí es perfecto y tanto en la primera como en esta película se hace bien; ahora, esta segunda parte no es mejor debido a lo mal desarrollado del principal antagonista, no es una verdadera amenaza, no está a la par de Becky y eso hace que sea una gran representación de lo que es este film el cual lo considero como un puente para algo más grande, más loco y que ahora espero que se pueda realizar porque tengo expectativa de lo que será el tercer film mantenga el humor, la violencia, la sangre, la mirada de locura de Lulu y que el villano de turno sea alguien muy despreciable, es lo único que pido. A pesar de que pudo ser mejor, recomiendo no solo ver "The Wrath of Becky", sino también vean "Becky", ambas películas son cortas, divertidas, bien hechas, son películas muy entretenidas, vean la historia de esta chica que busca expresar sus sentimientos de rabia contra personas que les gusta odiar y molestar.

I liked The Wrath of Becky although it is not better than the first film; I think it was necessary to bring back this character because of the fans she created three years ago with her first film and because now she needs to create new fans and that's why I thought it was good to update "Becky" and I use "update" in terms about what has happened with her although I also make references to other things like making her more cartoonish or turning this story into a satire about what punishment should have the people who represent evil in this story and who better than someone who is completely lost in her mind, who has a strange and violent way of doing justice to deal with racists, terrorists and so on; that to me is perfect and in both the first and this movie it's done well; now, this second part is not better because of how poorly developed the main antagonist is, he is not a real threat, he is not on par with Becky and that makes it a great representation of what this film is which I consider it as a bridge to something bigger, crazier and that now I hope can be realized because I have expectation of what will be the third film keep the humor, the violence, the blood, the look of madness of Lulu and that the villain on duty is someone very despicable, that's all I ask. Even though it could have been better, I recommend not only watching "The Wrath of Becky", but also watch "Becky", both films are short, funny, well made, they are very entertaining films, watch the story of this girl who seeks to express her feelings of rage against people who like to hate and annoy.
