The Wrecking Crew - Movie Review [ES - EN]

En los últimos meses, Amazon Prime Video ha estrenado películas originales en donde predomina la simple y (algunas veces) efectiva fórmula de unir la acción con la comedia, generando historias protagonizadas por parejas de personajes con personalidades muy diferentes, quienes deberán encontrar un punto de reflexión para así trabajar juntos y solventar cualquier problema a enfrentar; esas características las encontramos en "The Wrecking Crew", film de acción y comedia que relata la historia de dos hermanos que deberán superar sus grandes diferencias para resolver la extraña muerte de su padre.

In recent months, Amazon Prime Video has released original films that predominantly follow the simple and (sometimes) effective formula of combining action with comedy, creating stories starring pairs of characters with very different personalities who must find common ground in order to work together and solve any problems they face. These characteristics can be found in "The Wrecking Crew," an action-comedy film that tells the story of two brothers who must overcome their differences to solve the strange death of their father.

Esta película, estrenada hace días, fue dirigida por Ángel Manuel Soto, director puertorriqueño que dirigió hace ya tres años "Blue Beetle"; en este nuevo film, estoy convencido en que Soto usó esta producción para ser considerado en dirigir algún spin-off de "Fast & Furious", esto lo digo porque mientras va transcurriendo la película, cada secuencia de acción se va haciendo muy fantasiosa y ese estilo de escenas en vez de generar algo positivo, me parecieron aburridas porque creo que el director trata de abarcar mucho y no consigue que ninguna de esas escenas genere algo positivo; creo que el presupuesto afecta el desarrollo de dichas escenas las cuales son caricaturescas, tontas y poco originales.

This film, released a few days ago, was directed by Ángel Manuel Soto, a Puerto Rican director who directed Blue Beetle three years ago. In this new film, I am convinced that Soto used this production to be considered for directing a Fast & Furious spin-off. I say this because as the film progresses, each action sequence becomes increasingly fantastical, and rather than generating something positive, I found these scenes boring because I think the director tries to cover too much ground and fails to make any of these scenes generate something positive. I think the budget affects the development of these scenes, which are cartoonish, silly, and unoriginal.

El guion fue escrito por Jonathan Tropper, quien ha trabajado como creador, showrunner, director y escritor de series como "Banshee", "Warrior" y "Your Friends and Neighbors". En mi opinión, las dos primeras producciones enfocadas en el género de la acción son series que deberían ver y lo que posiblemente pudiera o pudo generar expectativas en esta película, pero la realidad es que el guion es de lo peor del film; es una historia muy genérica, sin nada de relevancia, cumple con muchos clichés y puedo decir que Topper escribió a los peores protagonistas en este tipo de films; son los personajes más aburridos y simples que he visto. En realidad, creo que todos los personajes que aparecen en esta película no son para nada destacables.

The script was written by Jonathan Tropper, who has worked as a creator, showrunner, director, and writer on series such as Banshee, Warrior, and Your Friends and Neighbors. In my opinion, the first two productions focused on the action genre are series that you should watch and that could possibly generate expectations for this film, but the reality is that the script is the worst part of the film; it is a very generic story, with nothing of relevance, full of clichés, and I can say that Topper wrote the worst protagonists in this type of film; they are the most boring and simplistic characters I have ever seen. In fact, I think that none of the characters in this film are noteworthy at all.

No debería ser exigente en este tipo de películas con respecto a la actuación, pero cuando no existen expectativas por ningún actor en esa producción y ni así se puede destacar a uno solo, creo que sería inapropiado por mi parte no señalar el mal trabajo que realizan tanto Dave Bautista como Jason Momoa; primeramente, esperaba algo más de compromiso de Dave a pesar del pésimo guion, pero en esta película no existe ningun esfuerzo de demostrar alguna emoción que diferencie o que haga que su personaje tenga esa relevancia de ser uno de los protagonistas; creo que su trabajo consistió en aparecer en el set, leer sus diálogos, cobrar el cheque e irse, y pudiera decir que es el peor, pero lo de Momoa es mucho peor porque, desde este film, en mi opinión, pasa a ser parte de la lista de actores que interpretan al mismo personaje en todas las películas en que participa. Es hacer una sobreactuación constante en donde es claro que su personaje padece de una notoria inmadurez, pero aburre, no es divertido, es otro punto negativo de la película.

I shouldn't be demanding when it comes to acting in this type of film, but when there are no expectations for any of the actors in the production and not a single one stands out, I think it would be inappropriate of me not to point out the poor work done by both Dave Bautista and Jason Momoa. Firstly, I expected a little more commitment from Dave despite the terrible script, but in this film, he makes no effort to show any emotion that sets his character apart or makes him stand out as one of the protagonists. I think his job consisted of showing up on set, reading his lines, cashing his check, and leaving. I could say he's the worst, but Momoa is much worse because, in my opinion, this film adds him to the list of actors who play the same character in every movie they're in. He constantly overacts, and it's clear that his character suffers from a noticeable immaturity, but it's boring, it's not funny, and it's another negative point of the film.

The Wrecking Crew por muy pocos momentos, es un film entretenido; me hubiera gustado que las escenas de acción se mantuvieran como las que se muestran al principio, lo cual me hizo recordar a películas de mediados de los noventa, pero así como dije anteriormente, creo que había cierta necesidad de transformar a esta película en una protagonizada por Vin Diesel o dirigida por Michael Bay y cuando es un film con un presupuesto que no es acorde a las escenas que quisieron realizar, entonces observamos escenas que no son buenas, ya que se nota lo limitado de presupuesto en su producción, sea por decisiones en ciertas tomas o por un uso del CGI que la hace ver como una serie de TV y, entre eso y un pobre guion en el cual no desarrolla a ningún personaje, en especial a la pareja de protagonistas a causa del protagonismo excesivo de Momoa; este es un film decepcionante y lo considero una completa pérdida de tiempo.

The Wrecking Crew is, for a few moments, an entertaining film; I would have liked the action scenes to remain as they were at the beginning, which reminded me of films from the mid-nineties, but as I said before, I think there was a certain need to transform this film into one starring Vin Diesel or directed by Michael Bay, and when it is a film with a budget that is not in line with the scenes they wanted to shoot, then we see scenes that are not good, as the limited budget is noticeable in its production, whether due to decisions in certain shots or the use of CGI that makes it look like a TV series. Between that and a poor script that does not develop any of the characters, especially the two main characters due to the excessive prominence of Momoa, this is a disappointing film and I consider it a complete waste of time.
