Transformers: Rise of the Beasts - Movie Review [ES - EN]

Mis dos etapas siendo fan de las series animadas de "Transformers" son al ver la serie animada original de esta franquicia estrenada a mediados de los 80' y "Beast Wars: Transformers", estrenada a mediados de los 90' que en mi opinión relanzó la franquicia, teniendo una historia nueva aunque con elementos de la historia original, pero con nuevos personajes, con buenos diseños y la animación computarizada, lo que hizo sentir perfecta y mi sueño era que algún día esta serie se llevará al cine y al momento en que en esta nueva etapa de la franquicia cinematográfica se anunció un nuevo film que hace introducción de estos buenos personajes, se me hizo imposible no tener cierta expectativa la cual lamento haber sentido porque el resultado final no fue satisfactorio.

My two stages being a fan of the "Transformers" animated series are watching the original animated series of this franchise released in the mid 80's and "Beast Wars: Transformers", released in the mid 90's' which in my opinion relaunched the franchise, having a new story although with elements of the original story, but with new characters, with good designs and computer animation, which made it feel perfect and my dream was that someday this series will be taken to the movies and at the time when in this new stage of the film franchise a new film was announced that makes introduction of these good characters, it became impossible for me not to have certain expectation which I regret to have felt because the final result was not satisfactory.

"Transformers: Rise of the Beasts", es la séptima película de esta franquicia, siendo secuela de "Bumblebee" (2018); en esta historia veremos como el enemigo definitivo, "Unicron" el Devorador de Planetas, invade junto a sus lacayos, los "Terrorcons", el planeta de los "Maximals", una raza de Cybertronians que usan la imagen de animales para su transformación; está avanzada raza posee un artefacto tecnológico que puede abrir portales para viajar a cualquiera en diferentes espacios y tiempos, eso es lo que ansia tener Unicron para así saciar su gran apetito, pero en una breve y mortal lucha, los Maximals liderados por "Optimus Primal" huyen antes que su planeta sea completamente devorado; eso nos lleva a New York en 1994, en dónde el descubrimiento de una figura muy antigua llamará la atención no solo de los Terrorcons, sino también de los "Autobots", ya que su líder "Optimus Prime" ve una gran oportunidad para que él y sus compañeros puedan regresar a Cybertron, pero antes deberán unirse a los Maximals para liberar a la Tierra de un poderoso enemigo.

"Transformers: Rise of the Beasts", is the seventh film in this franchise, being a sequel to "Bumblebee" (2018); in this story we will see how the ultimate enemy, "Unicron" the Devourer of Planets, invades along with his lackeys, the "Terrorcons", the planet of the "Maximals", a race of Cybertronians who use the image of animals for their transformation; this advanced race possesses a technological artifact that can open portals to travel to anyone in different spaces and times, that is what Unicron craves to have to satiate his great appetite, but in a brief and deadly struggle, the Maximals led by "Optimus Primal" flee before their planet is completely devoured; That takes us to New York in 1994, where the discovery of a very old figure will call the attention not only of the Terrorcons, but also of the "Autobots", since their leader "Optimus Prime" sees a great opportunity for him and his companions to return to Cybertron, but first they must join the Maximals to free the Earth from a powerful enemy.

Esta película es dirigida por Steven Caple Jr., un joven director que en esta oportunidad está historia cumple con una escala diferente de lo que fue el anterior film, me refiero a que hay más personajes y con la magnitud de los villanos y sus amenazas contaba con la realización de escenas de acción mucho más grandes; en mi opinión creo que este director hace un trabajo conservador porque no aporta nada nuevo, las escenas de acción son adecuadas, pero es más de lo mismo, es ver nuevamente algunas escenas que se presenció en los anteriores films dirigidos por Michael Bay y eso me decepcionó porque esperaba un mejor protagonismo y desarrollo de los Autobots, que tenga todos por igual buenas escenas de acción.

La historia es simple, repetitiva y aunque debo decir que está influenciada a la motivación principal de los Autobots y los Maximals en las series animadas; me refiero a la necesidad del regreso a su hogar, al regreso de Cybertron y justamente eso crea un objetivo egoísta en dónde existe una sola misión la cual es salvarse uno mismo o una especie sin importar que suceda al otro; pero con los diferentes sucesos es vital que cada quien crea, que confíe en el otro para poder salvarse todos; eso es el punto vital de la historia que se debió desarrollar mejor dando protagonista a todos los personajes que hacen aparición en este film, pero lamentablemente se pierde otra oportunidad de hacer una gran representación de los Maximals así como sucedió en "Age of Extinction" (2011) con los "Dinobots". Es molesto que en esta franquicia se usa de manera muy mala todo lo referente al fanservice.

This film is directed by Steven Caple Jr., a young director that this time this story meets a different scale of what was the previous film, I mean that there are more characters and with the magnitude of the villains and their threats counted with the realization of much larger action scenes; in my opinion I think this director does a conservative job because it does not bring anything new, the action scenes are adequate, but it's more of the same, is to see again some scenes that were witnessed in previous films directed by Michael Bay**_ and that disappointed me because I expected a better role and development of the Autobots, which has all equally good action scenes.

The story is simple, repetitive and although I must say that it is influenced by the main motivation of the Autobots and Maximals in the animated series; I mean the need to return home, the return of Cybertron and just that creates a selfish goal where there is a single mission which is to save oneself or a species no matter what happens to the other; But with the different events it is vital that each one believes, that trusts in the other to be able to save everyone; that is the vital point of the story that should have been better developed giving protagonist to all the characters that appear in this film, but unfortunately another opportunity to make a great representation of the Maximals is lost, as it happened in "Age of Extinction" (2011) with the "Dinobots". It's annoying that in this franchise everything related to fanservice is used in a very bad way.

El gran problema de esta franquicia es más que nada en la manera de escribir a los personajes humanos que acompañan a estos héroes alienígenas; en siete películas solo dos han creado un consenso de cuáles tienen mejor motivo e importancia para la historia, uno es el de "Mikaela Banes" (Transformers 1 y 2) y el otro es "Charlie Watson" (Bumblebee), justamente está última es la que mejor desarrollada e Interpretada este en esta franquicia y eso me dio esperanza de ver algo parecido en este nuevo film, pero no, en esta oportunidad el trabajo realizado por Anthony Ramos como "Noah" y el de Dominique Fishback como "Elena" no es el mejor y no trataré de culpar a los actores porque he visto trabajos anteriores y pueden presentar este tipo de personajes en este film, pero creo que el poco contexto, el mal relato de sus motivos no son bien desarrollados y eso los convierte en el tipo personaje molesto en esta franquicia que solo está para hacer un gesto, chiste, decir algún tipo de frase o gritar el nombre de alguno de los Autobots o en este caso, el nombre de uno de los Maximals; en mi opinión una parte de lo peor del film son estos personajes.

The big problem with this franchise is mostly in the way the human characters that accompany these alien heroes are written; in seven films only two have created a consensus of which have better motive and importance to the story, one is that of "Mikaela Banes" (Transformers 1 and 2) and the other is "Charlie Watson" (Bumblebee), precisely the latter is the best developed and interpreted this in this franchise and that gave me hope to see something similar in this new film, but no, on this occasion the work done by Anthony Ramos as "Noah" and that of Dominique Fishback as "Elena" is not the best and I won't try to blame the actors because I have seen previous works and they can present this kind of characters in this film, but I think the little context, the poor telling of their motives are not well developed and that makes them the kind of annoying character in this franchise that is only there to make a gesture, joke, say some kind of phrase or shout the name of one of the Autobots or in this case, the name of one of the Maximals; in my opinion a part of the worst part of the film are these characters.

Seguramente que al tener expectativas sobre esta producción es lo que me hizo sentir decepción al terminar de verla; creo que existe un potencial enorme con los Maximals y los Autobots, sé que está producción no puede copiar fielmente una serie de varios episodios y solamente basarse en ciertas características para desarrollar una historia, pero justamente no se puede repetir un grave error en usar un título o ciertos personajes para crear ese título y en el film no darle un respetable protagonismo, esto es lo que más critico de esta película la cual se pierde la oportunidad de hacer algo nuevo, algo fresco, en cambio, se repite tantas cosas que me creó decepción; sé que hay opiniones en donde hace referencia a lo entretenida que es o que la extensa secuencia de acción en el último acto es lo mejor o que la revelación al final trae cierta esperanza a producciones basadas en los juguetes de Hasbro, pero estoy convencido de que se pudo hacer mejor muchas cosas; solo me queda esperar a la próxima producción animada que espero sea algo en dónde enfocarse en el futuro, dejar atrás las versiones live-action y enfocarse en el material de origen de esta franquicia.

I'm sure that having expectations about this production is what made me feel disappointed when I finished watching it; I think there is a huge potential with the Maximals and the Autobots, I know that this production can not faithfully copy a series of several episodes and only rely on certain features to develop a story, but just can not repeat a serious mistake in using a title or certain characters to create that title and in the film not give them a respectable role, this is what I criticize most of this film which misses the opportunity to do something new, something fresh, instead, it repeats so many things that created disappointment in me; I know there are opinions where it makes reference to how entertaining it is or that the extensive action sequence in the last act is the best or that the revelation at the end brings some hope to productions based on Hasbro toys, but I am convinced that many things could have been done better; I can only wait for the next animated production that I hope will be something to focus on in the future, leave behind the live-action versions and focus on the source material of this franchise.
