Wednesday - TV Series Review [ESP|ENG]
La serie de TV basada en "The Addams Family" estrenada a mediados de los 60' y que en Venezuela se conoció como "Los Locos Addams", se mantuvo por un buen tiempo en transmisión aunque no recuerdo verla como si lo hice con "The Three Stooges" y "The Monsters", pero si tuve conocimiento de los icónicos personajes que protagonizaban esa serie junto con su famoso tema musical y el asunto de chasquido de los dedos; tuve que esperar un buen tiempo para disfrutar de las ocurrencias de estos personajes y eso fue por la vía de los dos films que se estrenaron en los 90', dos comedias con algo de terror y una buena interpretación de todos los personajes; dos producciones que se convirtieron en los últimos trabajos de una gran actor como fue Raúl Juliá y el lanzamiento de la carrera actoral de Christina Ricci; esas dos películas son las únicas producciones que he disfrutado de esta historia que se basa en un tira cómica creada por Charles Addams en 1938.
The TV series based on "The Addams Family" premiered in the mid 60's and was known in Venezuela as "Los Locos Addams", it was on the air for quite a while although I don't remember watching it as I did with "The Three Stooges" and "The Monsters", but I did have knowledge of the iconic characters that starred in that series along with its famous theme song and the finger snapping thing; I had to wait a long time to enjoy the witticisms of these characters and that was by way of the two films that were released in the 90's, two comedies with some horror and a good interpretation of all the characters; two productions that became the last works of a great actor as was Raúl Juliá and the launching of the acting career of Christina Ricci; those two films are the only productions that I have enjoyed of this story that is based on a comic strip created by Charles Addams in 1938.
Cada vez creo que es inevitable de que producciones con más de 40 años de realizadas o hasta mucho menos, tengan nuevas versiones que capten la atención de nuevas generaciones; personalmente pido que con estas nuevas historias de personajes conocidos e interpretados en varias oportunidades se haga un buen trabajo porque es mejor que el trabajo hecho sea reconocido, que haga honor a lo realizado anteriormente y que al hacer algo nuevo que sea muy bien recibido por fieles fans y que se crea a muchos nuevos. Al momento de que Netflix anuncio el desarrollo de esta serie estaba con muy pocas expectativas, pero al saber qué Tim Burton estaba relacionado con esta serie pensé en darle oportunidad y es que no solo eso, sino la historia en sí era algo que creaba curiosidad, ya que se tenía la oportunidad de profundizar en "Wednesday" (Merlina) como personaje que en mi opinión creo a muchos fans desde la interpretación de Ricci en los films de los 90'.
Every time I think it is inevitable that productions with more than 40 years old or even much less, have new versions that capture the attention of new generations; personally I ask that with these new stories of characters known and interpreted in several opportunities a good job is done because it is better that the work done is recognized, that it honors what was done before and that by doing something new that is very well received by loyal fans and that many new ones are created. When Netflix announced the development of this series I had very low expectations, but knowing that Tim Burton was related to this series I thought about giving it a chance and not only that, but the story itself was something that created curiosity, since it had the opportunity to delve into "Wednesday" (Merlina) as a character that in my opinion created many fans since the interpretation of Ricci in the films of the 90'.
En los 8 episodios que conforman a esta serie veremos cómo "Wednesday Addams" después de ser expulsada de varias secundarias, llega a una donde sus padres comenzaron su apasionado amor, a la secundaria enfocada en "Outcast" y que recibe el nombre de "Nevermore Academy" que queda en Jericho, Vermont; en ese lugar que podrá ser lo más adecuado para Wednesday, descubrirá verdades de su familia y en especial de ella y justamente eso creara que surjan enemigos inesperados cómo fieles amigos que deberán ayudarla a esclarecer un gran número de crímenes que pueden afectar a su nueva escuela. La premisa de la historia creada por Alfred Gough y Miles Millar fue perfecta para dar emoción a lo que es una buena historia Coming-of-Age, con elementos de terror, suspenso y comedia; lo que más me ha gustado es que todo lo antes descrito tiene un buen peso en todos los episodios y deja el drama que es un elemento importante en este tipo de historias para lo que posiblemente se desarrolle más en una segunda temporada y es que las bases están en la historia como es la soledad, el desamor, presión de los padres, aceptar los cambios y temas importantes como la confianza y amistad.
Me sorprendió ver qué Tim Burton dirigiera los primeros cinco episodios de esta temporada, me gtq también que no trate de demostrar convertirla en una característica producción de las que él realiza porque pienso que los demás directores que cierren la temporada no están obligados a copiar ningún trabajo. He leído que la producción e imagen de la serie hizo que se creara una crítica negativa por el parecido a otras series producidas por CW y Netlfix cómo son "Riverdale" y "Chilling Adventures of Sabrina"; yo aparte de esas serie, encontré un parecido a otras producciones como "Harry Potter", "Scooby Doo" y pienso que eso no es algo negativo, creo que es una buena idea porque pienso que está era una oportunidad para atraer nuevo público a lo que es la historia de esta atípica familia.
In the 8 episodes that make up this series we will see how "Wednesday Addams" after being expelled from several high schools, arrives to one where her parents began their passionate love, to the high school focused on "Outcast" and that receives the name of "Nevermore Academy" which is in Jericho, Vermont; in that place that may be the most suitable for Wednesday, she will discover truths about her family and especially about her and just that will create that unexpected enemies arise as faithful friends who must help her to clarify a large number of crimes that may affect her new school. The premise of the story created by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar was perfect to give emotion to what is a good Coming-of-Age story, with elements of horror, suspense and comedy; What I liked the most is that everything described above has a good weight in all the episodes and leaves the drama that is an important element in this type of stories for what will possibly develop more in a second season and is that the bases are in the story such as loneliness, heartbreak, parental pressure, accepting changes and important issues such as trust and friendship.
I was surprised to see that Tim Burton directed the first five episodes of this season, I was also surprised that he didn't try to prove to turn it into a characteristic production of his own because I think that the other directors that close the season are not obliged to copy any work. I have read that the production and image of the series created a negative criticism because of the resemblance to other series produced by CW and Netlfix such as "Riverdale" and "Chilling Adventures of Sabrina"; apart from those series, I found a resemblance to other productions such as "Harry Potter", "Scooby Doo" and I think that is not something negative, I think it is a good idea because I think this was an opportunity to attract new audiences to the story of this atypical family.
El casting para esta serie fue de lo mejor que he visto en el año, primeramente debo hablar de Jenna Ortega que hizo una gran interpretación como "Wednesday Addams", creo que debe ser una de la jóvenes actrices como mejor proyección en el futuro por ser muy polifacética, drama, comedia, horror, mucho horror y es que para mí ya es una perfecta "Scream Queen"; ahora en esta serie me gusta como interpreta a alguien tan encerrado en sí misma, inteligente, diferente, extrovertida, segura, pero a la vez infantil y hasta en momentos ingenua chica de tan solo 16 años de edad; me gustó todo lo que es y transmite este personaje porque es muy divertida, sus rasgos, la manera de hablar y expresarse, es todo muy bien hecho. Uno de mis personajes favoritos fue "Enid Sinclair" interpretada por Emma Myers la cual es todo lo contrario a lo que proyecta Wednesday, su personaje feliz, con actitud positiva, llena de color, de sonrisas, de miedo, pero a la vez decidida porque sabe que es lo que quiere a pesar de tener una gran presión creada por su familia, creo que ella es un buen complemento para toda la serie y ojalá en la segunda temporada tenga más protagonismo. Hay otros actores que estuvieron perfectos y ellos son todos los integrantes de la familia Addams, todo el cast es perfecto, todos lo hacen bien, son divertidos y si espero protagonismo de Enid, ojalá que haya más minutos de "Gomez" (Homero), "Morticia", "Pugsley" (Pericles) y "Uncle Fester" (Tío Lucas).
The casting for this series was one of the best I have seen this year, first of all I must talk about Jenna Ortega who did a great performance as "Wednesday Addams", I think she must be one of the young actresses with the best projection in the future because she is very versatile, drama, comedy, horror, a lot of horror and for me she is already a perfect "Scream Queen"; Now in this series I like how she plays someone so closed in on herself, intelligent, different, outgoing, confident, but at the same time childish and even naive at times, a girl of only 16 years of age; I liked everything that is and transmits this character because she is very funny, her features, the way she speaks and expresses herself, it's all very well done. One of my favorite characters was "Enid Sinclair" played by Emma Myers which is the opposite of what Wednesday projects, her character happy, with positive attitude, full of color, smiles, fear, but at the same time determined because she knows what she wants despite having a great pressure created by her family, I think she is a good complement for the whole series and hopefully in the second season she will have more prominence. There are other actors that were perfect and they are all the members of the Addams family, the whole cast is perfect, they all do well, they are funny and if I expect Enid's protagonism, hopefully there will be more minutes of "Gomez", "Morticia", "Pugsley" and "Uncle Fester".
Este año me ha costado ver series, justamente las que he visto de una manera directa, sin excusas, son historias cómicas en dónde se debe resolver un misterio, la diferencia de esas producciones con esta es que la nueva serie de Netflix tiene muchos rasgos de ser una serie juvenil como muchas otras y esa fue mi primera impresión al ver el primer episodio, pero en mi opinión, la historia mejora mucho más al desarrollar a su protagonista y demás personas, cómo debe ser cualquier tipo de producción. A pesar de la comedia, la cual debo decir que no es del tipo de otras famosas series, junto a lo de resolver un misterio y todo el asunto de el transitar entre una vida juvenil a la adultez, creo que lo que más me gustó es que usa muy bien ese género de historia la cual conozco como "Buddy Fiim" y sé que está es una serie de TV, pero que Wednesday/Merlina tenga no uno sino varios amigos, acompañantes y que con todos tenga una buena química, fue algo que disfrute de ver y eso es porque este personaje que protagoniza la historia es solitario, se hace ver de esa manera, pero siempre necesita una ayuda, un apoyo y eso lo destacó sobre otras cosas como los personajes que aparecen y que son icónicos en la familia Addams, como por ejemplo "Thing" (Dedos en Venezuela) el cual hacerlo parte de esta serie fue una de las mejores decisiones porque es un gran personaje. Cómo han visto anteriormente en la comunidad, muchas reseñas fueron realizadas, pero por eso no querría pasar la oportunidad de compartir mi opinión y recomendar a esta buena serie.
This year it has been hard for me to watch series, just the ones I have seen in a direct way, without excuses, are comic stories where a mystery must be solved, the difference of those productions with this one is that the new Netflix series has many features of being a youth series like many others and that was my first impression when watching the first episode, but in my opinion, the story improves much more when developing its protagonist and other people, how any type of production should be. Despite the comedy, which I must say is not the type of other famous series, along with solving a mystery and the whole issue of the transition from a young life to adulthood, I think what I liked the most is that it uses very well that genre of story which I know as "Buddy Fiim" and I know this is a TV series, but that Wednesday/Merlina has not one but several friends, companions and with all of them she has a good chemistry, was something I enjoyed seeing and that's because this character that stars in the story is a loner, he makes himself look that way, but he always needs help, support and that made him stand out from other things like the characters that appear and are iconic in the Addams family, like for example "Thing" (Fingers in Venezuela) which making him part of this series was one of the best decisions because he is a great character. As you have seen before in the community, many reviews were made, but that's why I would not want to pass the opportunity to share my opinion and recommend this good series.

Despues de haberla visto tengo que decir que concuerdo con muchos de tus puntos, siento que es una buena serie con mucho potencial y mucha materia a donde crecer en las siguientes temporadas, espero que al menos logren tres temporadas, porque el mayor peso es sus actuaciones que han sido no mas las bases que han colocado, siendo entonces la oportunidad para futuros crecimientos, saludos :)
Así mismo opino, tiene buen potencial y espero que el místerio sea lo importante de su historia, igual con el humor y claro lo de ser una serie juvenil que es donde más que nada está enfocada esta serie.
Puede mejorar y espero que sea así, ya que sus creadores parece que tiene un plan para desarrollar varias temporadas.
Solo espero que sigan involucrando a Burton para que este lleve al menos el estilo creativo de ser posible, saludos y un abrazo :)
It seems that this series has captured a lot of attention, as I mentioned, I have only seen the first episode, so I can not give an objective opinion, however, what I saw seemed interesting. I really liked Jenna Ortega's performance, she gives it the true essence that we are used to in the Addams, that is one of my favorite characters in that crazy family.
Its focus is an academic context for teenagers, something that at first I didn't think was positive but it seems to have worked for the audience.
It is a good production although not perfect because there are some things in the script of the last episodes that really seems silly and I think they underestimate the audience and I hope that in a second season they can improve in that aspect, but in everything else they do a good job, mainly in the development of the characters as Wednesday I did not point out in the publication, but it is very different from what Ricci did in the two films of the 90's and I think that's good.
Jenna Ortega is great.
I am very excited to see the series, especially because my mother loved the movie Los locos Addams and she said that I looked like Morticia Addams because of my long hair, so I hope to see her as a family soon and that this one really does honor her transcendence.
It made me laugh at how her mother compares her to Morticia Addams 😂.
I can only say, as a tip, is that the Addams family has different traits than how it was seen in the film, especially Gomez who in Latin America was known as "Homero Addams" and Uncle Fester/"Tio Lucas"; these characters are more linked to the image that their creator designed and that copies the animated films of this eccentric family.
You will surely enjoy it because it is a good series.
Yo no tenia ni ganas de verla, pero la que para mi es ya una Scream Queen, me animo a hacerlo y para mi sorpresa me engancho con su primer episodio. Al igual que tu, me encanto también el personaje de Enid. Por supuesto hay clichés propios de series juveniles de fantasía, pero funcionan y entretienen. Ha tenido bastante éxito en Netflix y no dudo que pronto anuncien renovación por dos temporadas. Deben cuadrar agendas ( y pasta) con Ortega que también tiene sus proyectos cinematográficos y por supuesto con Burton.
Obligatoriamente Burton debe seguir y ojalá pueda dirigir todos los episodios y que le den buen dinero para crear algo más apegado a su estilo.
Ortega es una estrella en ascenso, el año que viene estrena la nueva de SCREAM y creo que habrá que esperar a ver una segunda parte de esta serie aunque parece que sus creadores puedan ya tener algo adelantado.

I thought it started strong but then fizzled out towards the end. I was unaware that Burton didn't direct all of them and I'm going to have to go back and see if the point that I thought that the series started to become kind of lame just happens to be when Burton stopped being involved. I wonder why he stopped? Do you know?
The first four episodes are directed by Tim Burton; the others have two directors and the change in quality is noticeable; I say this because of some of the decisions that were made that transformed those episodes into something very cartoonish.
I would have liked to see Burton direct the episode with the appearance of Uncle Fester and I think he could have had more presence of this director's style making the academy more gothic.
To be honest I was surprised that Burton directed 4 episodes and surely did not complete the series because of lack of money, hopefully with this success they can count on him for a full season.
Oh whoa, with this review, I can't wait anymore to watch this. It is already downloaded ln my storage coz after seeing a lot of people hyping this series i also decided to give it a try. Thanks for the review, now I can expect more scenes and for sure a remarkable dialogues too from the cast.
I was surprised to see so many reviews of this series in the community and so I waited to do one.
From the moment I saw the trailer more than a month ago that was released, I changed my opinion about this production and decided to watch it, I do not regret it because I was entertained and I liked it a lot; I hope that when I see it I will also enjoy it.
Pienso que aún no puedo dar una opinión profunda sobre ella, pero estoy por verla, bueno, tengo planeado hacerlo en los próximos días debido a los esquemas y la atracción de los hechos. Temía tiempo que no leía esto: Los Locos Addams. Pienso que la sonrisa de Jenna Ortega es realmente envolvente, quizás es por los criterios y la forma en la que se vislumbra. Muy llamativo, y envolvente. Espero tener un criterio cuando la pueda disfrutar por completo.
Jenna hace un buen trabajo; Wednesday es un extraño personaje, parece retraído, pero creo que le gusta hacerse notar y sí, por su manera de interpretar a este personaje, cuando es el momento de mostrar una sonrisa es algo que luce mucho.
Espero que le guste esta serie cuando pueda verla.
Justo la acabó de ver ¡Me conmovió! sobre todo el capítulo final porque ya sabía lo que venía. Me encantó la interpretación de Catherine, su casting estuvo genial.
No es mi gusto, pero por aquí la recomendaron y no hubo desperdicio. Espero la segunda parte.

Creo que justamente eso es algo que se puede debatir sobre la serie y es el tema de la inclusión; no veo nada forzado en esta serie y en mi opinión no hay nada "inclusivo" en esta producción.
El casting es uno de los puntos positivos de la serie, es lo que más me ha gustado, los actores con rol protagónico, la mayoría de ellos hacen un buen trabajo.

Es buena serie, está enfocada para el público juvenil, pero yo disfrute de su historia en gran parte y es entretenida.
La recomiendo y espero que la disfrute cuando decida verla.

Eso es un punto bueno de esta serie y es el respeto a lo que es la Familia Addams, quienes los interpretan hacen un buen trabajo.
Yo ví la serie sin expectativas y me gustó, ahora no sé si al esperar tanto pueda ver qué no es perfecta y no le guste; mi consejo es ese, verla con poca expectativa.
