Alliances: John Wick 4 (2023)
Hello cinephiles. I was finally able to remember to watch the last piece of this saga, I was so on the lookout for the premiere and then I just forgot about it. Babayaga, The Boogeyman or simply John Wick, needs no introduction, success precedes him. We know it was released in March of this year, continued to be directed by Chad Stahelski, and had a modest budget of $100 million (the same amount of bills we keep under our beds😏), quadrupling that amount at the box office after the smash hit (a little more than we spend on a languagequick trip to the beach🙃). So asking anyone, is it any good, is absurd... Even those who haven't seen it will say the same thing without a hint!
Hola, cinéfilos. Por fin pude recordar ver la última pieza de esta saga, estaba tan al pendiente del estreno y luego simplemente lo olvidé. Babayaga, El Hombre del Saco o simplemente John Wick, no necesita presentación, el éxito lo precede. Sabemos que la estrenaron en marzo de este año, la continuó dirigiendo Chad Stahelski, y que tubo un modesto presupuesto de 100 millones de dólares (la misma cantidad de billeticos que guardamos bajo nuestras camas😏), cuadruplicando esta cantidad en taquillas tras el éxito rotundo (un poco más de lo que gastamos en una visita rápida la playa🙃). Así que el preguntarle a cualquiera ¿es buena?, es absurdo… ¡Hasta el que no la ha visto, dirá lo mismo sin chistar!
Personal Matters.
Since the saga began, we see a John who has thousands of alliances, strong alliances that could even be called "friendship". And even within the subordinates of the Supreme Order, there is loyalty, the word is worth the same as your life; but there are some who remain faithful to Wick despite any consequence. All the commotion that our doggy lover generates, becomes disrespectful to the Order. It all starts to get personal, John has always wanted his freedom, the Order wants power, and those who help John, hope (either to get rid of or avenge the Order, whichever comes first).
Asuntos Personales.
Desde que comenzó la saga, vemos a un John que tiene miles de alianzas, fuertes alianzas que hasta podrían llamarse “amistad”. Y es que incluso dentro de los subordinados de la Orden Suprema, hay lealtad, la palabra vale lo mismo que tu vida; pero hay algunos quienes siguen fieles a Wick a pesar de cualquier consecuencia. Todo el revuelo que genera nuestro amante de los perritos, se convierte en una falta de respeto para Orden. Todo se empieza a volver personal, John siempre ha querido su libertad, la Orden quiere poder, y los que ayudan a John, esperanza (ya sea para librarse o vengarse la Orden, lo que ocurra primero).
Statement.
I am conspiracy theorist. From the first opportunity, we have been shown so many hidden messages, symbologies, that everything is run from the "shadows" and excessive luxury, and the simple fact of the name "Supreme Order" resembling "The New Order". All this uproar from John could signify the yearnings for freedom that those within this organization have, or simply a declaration of war on these supreme societies. Yes, all this could be simple conspiracy fantasy, but the message is clear in the film: there is a Supreme Order. Maybe they try to disguise it with a lot of action, epic scenes and the "simple" desire of a man to be free, but it is still a statement.
Declaración.
Soy conspiranoica. Desde la primera oportunidad, nos han mostrado muchísimos mensajes ocultos, simbologías, que todo se maneje desde las “sombras” y el lujo excesivo, y el simple hecho del nombre “Orden Suprema” semejando “El Nuevo Orden”. Todo este revuelo de John podría significar las ansías de libertad que tienen quienes están dentro de esta organización, o simplemente una declaración de guerra a estas sociedades supremas. Sí, todo esto podría ser simple conspiración fantasiosa, pero el mensaje el claro dentro del film: existe una Orden Suprema. Quizás lo busquen disfrazar con mucha acción, escenas épicas y el “simple” deseo de un hombre por ser libre, pero aún así no deja de ser una declaración.
Appearances.
Now let's focus a bit on something that I found spectacular: special appearances. I say special, because for me they were actors who marked a character and appropriated them in certain films.
Apariciones.
Ahora concentremos un poco en algo que me pareció espectacular: apariciones especiales. Digo especiales, porque para mí fueron actores que marcaron un personaje y se apropiaron de ellos en ciertos films.
We have, obviously, Bill Skarsgård (Simon in Simple Simon, 2010; Pennywise in It 1-2, 2017-2019) as The Marquis... simply impeccable, to say more would be cardinal sin. I love him.

Of course, the great little cameo in the third and fourth installment of the sack, I mean the participation of Laurence Fishburne (Morpheus in Matrix, 1999-2021) as Bowery King, although with few appearances, it was good his performance.

Of course, on the subject of martial arts actors, hats off to Donnie Yen (the Grandmaster in Ip Man, 2008-2014) as Caine, even though he's already in his 60's, his skill is still intact and he developed the character perfectly, I loved him.

And since we are talking about martial arts actors, we have a 2-for-1 with Scott Adkins, as Killa, and Marko Zaror, as Chidi. And is that both acted in the third installment of another saga called Undefeated (2002-2016), Adkins as Boika, and Zaror as Raul Quiñonez "El Colombiano". In the same way, they did not lose their spark; especially Zaror, I recognized him easily by his look and unhinged face when fighting, the same one he had in the other film I am talking about.
Y ya que estamos hablando de actores de artes marciales, tenemos un 2x1 con Scott Adkins, como Killa, y Marko Zaror, como Chidi. Y es que ambos actuaron en la tercera entrega de otra saga llamada Invicto (2002-2016), Adkins como Boika, y Zaror como Raúl Quiñonez “El Colombiano”. De igual modo, no perdieron su chispa; en especial Zaror, lo reconocí fácil por su mirada y cara de desquiciado al pelear, misma que ponía en el otro film que les comento.
Now let's come to the negative points, it hurts me, but personally, they made my head hurt. Already at this point, we all knew that John had little development left, it was difficult to leave him in the middle. That's why making a 2 hour 49 minute movie with little story left to develop seemed a bit incensatory to me. We love the epic action scenes that this saga has shown us, but to take half an hour for each fight, was it necessary? The other thing that made my head explode, who in their right mind (or even intoxicated) continues dancing while several men are killing each other in the middle of the disco? I can't conceive of that scene. Equal or worse were the scenes at the Arc de Triomphe, no one was braking, none of the vehicles was a cop, really? And not to mention the blessed 222 steps! Poor John rolled up and down them like 3 or 4 times, was that really necessary? I was relieved to discover that after rolling down over 200 steps, my Boogeyman didn't break any of the little bones in his beautiful self. I understand perfectly well that it's action, fiction, entertainment, etc., but if we already knew there wasn't much story to tell, it wasn't so necessary to extend an hour of absurd fights.
Ahora vengamos con los puntos negativos, me duele, pero en lo personal, me hicieron doler la cabeza. Ya a este punto, todos teníamos claro que a John le quedaba poco desarrollo, ya era difícil dejarlo en un punto medio. Por eso hacer una película de 2 horas con 49 minutos con poca historia por desarrollar, me pareció un poco incensario. Amamos las escenas épicas de acción que esta saga nos ha mostrado, pero ya a que tarden media hora cada pelea, ¿era necesario? Lo otro que me hizo reventar la cabeza, ¿quién en su sano juicio (o hasta intoxicado) sigue bailando mientras varios hombres se están matando en medio de la discoteca? No concibo esa escena. Igual o peor estuvieron las escenas del Arco del Triunfo, nadie frenaba, ninguno de los vehículos era un policía, ¿en serio? ¡Y ni hablar de los benditos 222 escalones! El pobre John los subió y bajó rodando como 3 o 4 veces, ¿hacía falta eso? Me quedé tranquila al descubrir que después de rodar abajo más de 200 escalones, a mi Hombre del Saco no se le partió ninguno de los huesitos de su hermoso ser. Entiendo perfecto que es acción, ficción, entretenimiento, etc., pero si ya sabíamos que no había mucha historia por contar, no era tan necesario extender una hora de peleas absurdas.
I also understand that, without those scenes it wouldn't be a movie, but a short film, but there were ways to extend it a bit without reiterating. A good example would be to develop Tracker (Mr. Nobody), where did he come from, is he an ally or an enemy, who contacted him with The Marquis? ... in short, a little bit of explanation of the character, because he appeared as Druppy everywhere and nothing was known about him. "Isa, there is another Spin-Off coming, maybe he will be there or the fifth part is coming". You are right, Carlitos, but for sure we have two things: 1, the Spin-offs have been announced for a long time and "Mr. Nobody" is nowhere to be seen; and 2, a fifth part is coming, it has already been announced. Now, if we see John's participation, it can be put in doubt because of the ambiguous ending; we don't know if he faked his death to escape from everyone. Another thing I could be sure of is that in the fifth installment of the Wick universe, it's Akira's revenge, I'm intrigued to know what he will do or if he will do it? We saw a teaser at the end of the credits that left me wanting more. For now, we only know that they plan to release this next installment in 2025 or 2026, and they promise to continue delighting us. I only ask that, if they bring Tracker back in, that they develop him, I need answers! So, moviegoers, as I always tell you: If you haven't seen it, see it, and if you have already seen it, see it again, you can't miss it.
También entiendo que, sin esas escenas no sería película, sino un cortometraje, pero había modos de extenderla un poco sin reiterar. Un buen ejemplo sería desarrollar Tracker (el Don Nadie), ¿de dónde salió?, ¿es aliado o enemigo?, ¿quién lo contactó con El Marqués? … en fin, un poquito de explicación del personaje, porque salía como Druppy en todas partes y no se sabía nada de él. “Isa, es que viene otro Spin-Off, tal vez él salga ahí o viene la quinta parte”. Tienes razón, Carlitos, pero seguro tenemos dos cosas: 1, los Spin-off se anunciaron desde hace rato y no se ve en ningún lado al “Don Nadie”; y 2, de que viene una quinta parte, viene, ya la han anunciado. Ahora de que veamos la participación de John, sí se puede poner en duda por el ambiguo final; no sabemos si fingió su muerte para escapar de todos. Otra cosa de lo que podría estar segura es que en la quinta entrega del universo Wick, es la venganza de Akira, me intriga saber ¿qué hará o si lo hará? Vimos un abrebocas al final de los créditos que dejó con ganas de más. Por lo pronto, solo se conoce que tienen pensado estrenar esta próxima entrega para el 2025 o 2026, y prometen seguir deleitándonos. Yo solo pido que, si meten otra vez a Tracker, ¡que lo desarrollen, necesito respuestas! Así que bueno, cinéfilos, como siempre les digo: Si no la han viso, véanla, y si ya la vieron, vuélvanla a ver, no tiene perdida de nada.

Incredibly I never saw the first movies, I went straight to the cinema to just see this one hahaha, but of course before that I knew it would take me a long time to see them and I set out to see a summary of all of them.
I have to say that I was delighted, I don't know why I hadn't seen them before, this actor is dedicated to each character and has an incomparable cast, I was sad at the end but I was left with the question of whether he died or not, I have faith that he is still alive, that poor man does nothing but love animals and has had a hard life😅.
hahahahaha I just thought the same thing, it's roasted him from everything and he just wants to be calm now. As for his supposed death, it left me on tenterhooks, because the director doesn't clarify if he will be in the next installment or not. It makes me think that John as such, disappears from everyone and continues his life from zero. Maybe it remains in the expectation for the next installment.😅

I watched this the other day. Action mayhem! I too particularly enjoyed the performance by Donnie Yen and didn't realise he's as old as you say.
Yes, I was also amazed at Donnie's age, his agility is still intact, and the touch of humor he added was spectacular.
