Hubo una noche en la que mi compañera y yo estábamos buscando películas en HBO Max, y nos encontramos con un film bastante interesante. Ya había visto el trailer de esta película "el hombre del norte" hace unos meses antes de que saliera, así que se me ocurrió verla junto con mi novia.

There was one night when my partner and I were looking for movies on HBO Max, and we came across a pretty interesting film. I had already seen the trailer for this movie "the man from the north" a few months ago before it came out, so I thought I'd watch it with my girlfriend.

De que trata la película? / What is the film about?

La película habla sobre la historia de un príncipe nórdico, al comienzo, ambientandose en la niñez de dicho principe. Su padre, el rei de unas tierras nórdicas, es un guerrero que busca educar a su más grande orgullo. En una ocasión, lleva a su hijo a una especie de ritual de iniciación nórdico en donde participa un chamán. El padre y el hijo son representados como dos perros que comen a los pies de Odín, el padre de todo.

El pequeño príncipe tenía un futuro prometedor, su madre lo amaba y su padre también, y sería el heredero guerrero de un rei. Sin embargo, esta historia se tornaría oscura cuando el hermano del rei, el tío del principio, los traicionaría comenzando una especie de golpe de estado para derrocar al rei. El rei y su hijo son embestidos mientras entrenan y comparten en el bosque lleno de nieve, el pequeño logra escapar pero es testigo de cómo su padre es decapitado por su tío. El príncipe regresa a su pueblo, pero muchos son asesinados y su madre es secuestrada, sin embargo, es chico valiente y fuerte, se defiende de uno de los soldados que lo intentan atrapar sacándole un ojo, el soldado dice que el chico está muerto para no tener problemas con su nuevo jefe, pero en realidad el niño logra huir en un barquito con inconmensurables deseos de venganza, repitiendo una y otra vez que matará a su tío, vengará a su padre y salvara a su madre.

The film tells the story of a Nordic prince, initially set in the prince's childhood. His father, the king of a Nordic land, is a warrior who seeks to educate his greatest pride. On one occasion, he takes his son to a kind of Nordic initiation ritual in which a shaman participates. The father and son are depicted as two dogs eating at the feet of Odin, the father of all.

The little prince had a promising future, his mother loved him and his father too, and he would be the warrior heir of a kingship. However, this story would turn dark when the king's brother, the uncle of the beginning, would betray them by starting a kind of coup d'état to overthrow the king. The rei and his son are rammed while training and sharing in the snow-filled forest, the little boy manages to escape but witnesses his father being beheaded by his uncle. The prince returns to his village, but many are killed and his mother is kidnapped, however, he is a brave and strong boy, he defends himself from one of the soldiers who try to catch him by gouging out his eye, the soldier says that the boy is dead to avoid problems with his new boss, but in reality the boy manages to escape in a small boat with immeasurable desire for revenge, repeating over and over again that he will kill his uncle, avenge his father and save his mother.

El pequeño príncipe termina llegando a un grupo de bárbaros, ahí se hace hombre y un guerrero realmente salvaje. Los bárbaros atacan un asentamiento de personas, una especie de pueblo, donde matan de forma sanguinaria a todos, secuestrando a algunos hombres y mujeres jóvenes para venderlos. En esta escena de pelea, el príncipe demuestra su enorme fuerza y habilidad para asesinar. Sin embargo, después del ataque al anochecer, el principe tiene una visión, una profecía que le indica que debe matar a su tío, cosa que había olvidado con el tiempo.

El príncipe se percata de que los esclavos que van a vender van hacia su tío, así que decide colarse entre ellos para cobrar su venganza. Se queda como esclavo un tiempo y comienza una relación con una de las esclavas, quien es una bruja de la cual se enamora. El protagonista se encuentra en una cueva con el chamán que una vez lo inicio junto a su padre, le dice que debe matar a su tío y le da una espada. El príncipe espera el momento adecuado para lograr su venganza, tuvo oportunidades pero tenía fe en la profecía, la cual decía que mataría a su tío en un mar de fuego, cosa que aún no pasaba. Empieza a matar a algunos soldados luego de ir ganándose la confianza del círculo de su tío, lo triste es que en un momento va y mata al hijo de su tío.

The little prince ends up coming to a group of barbarians, there he becomes a man and a really wild warrior. The barbarians attack a settlement of people, a kind of village, where they bloodily kill everyone, kidnapping some young men and women to sell them. In this fight scene, the prince demonstrates his enormous strength and killing ability. However, after the attack at nightfall, the prince has a vision, a prophecy that tells him to kill his uncle, something he had forgotten over time.

The prince notices that the slaves to be sold are going to his uncle, so he decides to sneak in among them to take his revenge. He stays as a slave for a while and begins a relationship with one of the slaves, who is a witch with whom he falls in love. The protagonist finds himself in a cave with the shaman who once initiated him with his father, tells him that he must kill his uncle and gives him a sword. The prince waits for the right moment to achieve his revenge, he had opportunities but he had faith in the prophecy, which said that he would kill his uncle in a sea of fire, which has not happened yet. He begins to kill some soldiers after gaining the trust of his uncle's circle, the sad thing is that at one point he kills his uncle's son.

Para ya terminar y resumir, su tío se da cuenta de que el es el tío de su hermano porque nuestro querido principe intenta rescatar a su madre, pero su madre le confiesa que ella fue cómplice del asesinato de su esposa (el padre del protagonista). Todo se complica y se termina sabiendo que este hombre es el hijo del difunto rei. Lo capturan y casi lo matan, pero aquella esclava de la que se enamoró y con la que tuvo relaciones lo salva, intentan huir juntos, pero el príncipe estaba obsesionado con la profecía y las visiones que tenía, así que para salvar a su futuro hijo y a su esposa de los deseos de venganza de su tío, decide volver. En ese momento un volcán erupciona y el logra cumplir con su venganza, lastimosamente, el muere en dicha pelea también.

To conclude and summarize, his uncle realizes that he is his brother's uncle because our beloved prince tries to rescue his mother, but his mother confesses that she was an accomplice in the murder of his wife (the father of the protagonist). Everything gets complicated and we end up knowing that this man is the son of the deceased king. He is captured and almost killed, but that slave with whom he fell in love and with whom he had relations saves him, they try to flee together, but the prince was obsessed with the prophecy and the visions he had, so to save his future son and his wife from the desires of revenge of his uncle, he decides to return. At that moment a volcano erupts and he manages to fulfill his revenge, unfortunately, he dies in the fight as well.

¿Mi opinión? / My opinion?

Me gustó bastante la producción de la película a nivel de paisajes y estilo de grabación y fotografía, era bastante oscura, pero me pareció que fue conveniente y que iba acorde con el contexto de la época.

Me pareció que la película no era muy clara con respecto a las visiones que tenía el protagonista de las profecías, o sea, ese tipo de escenas eran absolutamente random por así decirlo.

I quite liked the production of the film in terms of scenery and style of filming and photography, it was quite dark, but I thought it was convenient and in keeping with the context of the time.

It seemed to me that the film was not very clear about the visions that the protagonist had of the prophecies, that is, that kind of scenes were absolutely random so to speak.

La trama me pareció buena, o sea, es la típica historia de venganza de la época medieval o antigua, pero supieron abordar bien el tema. Solo siento que es de esas películas que les falta algo, no sé si a nivel narrativo, pero siento que te deja con bastante insatisfacción y más por el final, el protagonista muere, pero creo que en ese aspecto fueron bastante realistas tomando en cuenta la época y las etnias.

Hay un momento en donde la película se tornó un poco lenta, pero hubieron momentos buenos también. Es de esas películas que no te desagradan pero tampoco te encanta, es así como un "meh". Normal, he visto peores.

The plot seemed good to me, that is, it is the typical revenge story of medieval or ancient times, but they knew how to approach the subject well. I just feel that it is one of those movies that lacks something, I don't know if at a narrative level, but I feel that it leaves you with a lot of dissatisfaction and more for the end, the protagonist dies, but I think that in that aspect they were quite realistic taking into account the time and ethnicities.

There is a moment where the film became a little slow, but there were some good moments too. It's one of those movies that you don't dislike but you don't love it either, it's kind of "meh". Normal, I've seen worse.
