My Year at Oxford is one of those captivating, romantic, funny films, with that interesting drama that seems to show the same love story, but that can surprise. Enjoying so many iconic locations, including the university city of Oxford itself, as the events unfolded, I was completely enamored. It's a production that not only touches the heartstrings with its motivational message, but also enchants with each of its locations.
This film was released on August 1st of this year by the Netflix platform. The story unfolds around Anna, the protagonist, an extremely thoughtful girl who embarks on a new experience as part of her childhood dreams. She arrives from the United States to Oxford University in the United Kingdom to study Victorian poetry when she becomes involved in an unexpected romance that leads her to dive into deeper waters.
The script may seem a bit predictable, yet the unexpected twists keep the audience attentive and even surprised by the changes, plus the surprising revelations in the Plot development.
Anna (Sofia Carson) is a fresh, young character with expectations, who adapts to changes even if they aren't what she planned. Emotions are always on display, uncertainty is present, and love transforms her goals. This girl seems comfortable in the role. It really stands out from start to finish.
Corey Mylchreest (Jamie Davenport) is a young, handsome, charming, and intelligent teacher. His character portrays a self-confident, flirtatious, and purposeful man, whose life has a clearly defined destiny. She lives every moment as if it were her only one; this convinces the audience in her handling of emotions.
The rest of the cast perfectly complements the plot; they all become involved in the lives of the main actors, even with their emotional conflicts that become evident as the story unfolds. Dougray Scott (William Davenport) plays Jamie's father. He is portrayed as a controlling man, always seeking the best for his son at the expense of making decisions for him. Catherine McCormack (Antonia Davenport) is the mediator. Her role is based on maintaining harmony in the family, seeking common ground despite differences.

Harry Trevaldwyn, Esmé Kingdom, Nikhil Parmar, and Poppy Gilbert make this plot charming, versatile, and bold, with distinct approaches that connect to make this romantic comedy shine.
It's important to recognize the different emotional aspects that are evident in this romantic comedy. On the one hand, the protagonist is driven by love to think about her direction; on the other, Jamie's father doesn't accept his son's decisions considering his situation; and finally, Jamie doesn't want to get emotionally involved with any woman, due to a secret that is revealed near the end of the film. Jamie's personal drama was handled so well that it didn't overshadow the fun moments he had with the protagonist.
As for the setting of the film, it was love at first sight, the landscapes in each scene, the second oldest library in the United Kingdom, the Gothic style of the buildings, Jamie's parents' residence, that old style that denotes a whole story. It was an excellent idea to stage the scenes in Oxford itself; it makes it more real, in my opinion.
This film led me to renew the belief that life is full of moments, that we should live them to the fullest while we can. That the time we have in this world should be spent pursuing what we want, fulfilling our dreams. This story, despite its drama, emotional conflicts, and changes, has a meaningful message that is both moving and motivating. Life has limits, but don't think about them, but rather about what we can do while we have them, without guilt or regrets.
I think it's a beautiful plot that combines freshness, setting, historical places, dreams, and a different kind of love. It's an invitation to live life. As for my rating, it's 10/10. I love this type of genre. I think the story is compelling and engaging.

Mi año en Oxford es una de esas películas cautivadoras, románticas, divertidas, con ese drama interesante que parece mostrar la misma historia de amor, pero que puede sorprender. Disfrutar de tantos lugares emblemáticos como la propia ciudad universitaria de Oxford a medida que se van desarrollando los eventos, me enamoró totalmente, es una producción que no solo toca las fibras con su mensaje motivador, sino que encanta con cada una de sus locaciones.
Ésta película fue lanzada el 1 ro de agosto de éste año por la plataforma Netflix. La historia se desarrolla a partir de Anna la protagonista, una chica extremadamente planificada que emprende una nueva experiencia como parte de sus sueños de niña. Llega desde los Estados Unidos a la universidad de Oxford en Reino Unido, para estudiar poesía victoriana cuando se involucra en un romance inesperado que la lleva a sumergirse en aguas más profundas.
El guión puede parecer un poco predecible, aún así los giros inesperados mantienen al público atento e incluso sorprendido con los cambios, más las revelaciones que sorprenden en el desarrollo de la trama.
Anna (Sofia Carson) es un personaje fresco, jóven, con expectativas, que se adapta a los cambios a pesar de no ser lo planeado, las emociones siempre se muestran, la incertidumbre se hace presente, el amor transforma sus objetivos, ésta chica se ve cómoda en el papel. Realmente destaca desde el inicio hasta el final.
Corey Mylchreest (Jamie Davenport) es un profesor joven, apuesto, encantador, inteligente, su personaje muestra a un hombre seguro de si mismo, coqueto, con rumbos definidos, a quien la vida le tiene un destino bien marcado. Vive cada momento como si fuese el único, eso convence a la audiencia en su manejo de las emociones.
El resto del reparto complementan perfectamente la trama, todos se involucran en la vida de los actores principales, aún con sus conflictos emocionales que se ponen de manifiesto a medida que se desarrolla la historia. Dougray Scott (William Davenport) actúa en el papel del padre de Jamie, se muestra como un hombre controlador, siempre buscando lo mejor para su hijo a cuesta de tomar decisiones por el. Catherine McCormack (Antonia Davenport) Es la mediadora. Su papel se basa en mantener la armonía en la familia, buscando la coincidencia a pesar de las diferencias.

Es importante reconocer los diferentes aspectos emocionales que se ponen de manifiesto en ésta comedia romántica. Por un lado la protagonista se deja llevar por el amor a pensar de su norte, por el otro el padre de Jamie no acepta las decisiones de su hijo considerando su situación, y finalmente Jamie quien no quiere involucrarse emocionalmente con ninguna mujer, a raíz de un secreto que se descubre casi al final de la película. El drama personal de Jamie se supo manejar tan bien, que no opaco los momentos divertidos que vivió junto a la protagonista.
En cuanto a la ambientación de la película fue amor a primera vista, los paisajes en cada escena, la segunda biblioteca más antigua de Reino Unido, el estilo gótico de los edificios, la residencia de los padres de Jamie, ese estilo antiguo que denota toda una historia. Fue una excelente idea trabajar las escenas en la propia Oxford, eso lo hace más real, en mi opinión.
Ésta película me llevo a renovar ese pensamiento que la vida está llena de momentos, que debemos vivirlos al maximo mientras podamos. Que el tiempo que tenemos en éste mundo debe ser para alcanzar el querer, para cumplir nuestros sueños. Ésta historia a pesar del drama, de los conflictos emocionales, los cambios, tiene un mensaje significativo que conmueve pero al mismo tiempo es motivador. La vida tiene un límite, pero no pensar en ello, sino en lo que podemos hacer mientras la tenemos, sin culpas o lamentos.
Considero que es una bonita trama que combina frescura, ambientación, lugares históricos, sueños, un amor diferente, es toda una invitación a vivir la vida. En cuanto a mi criterio de valoración tiene 10/10, me encanta éste tipo de género, pienso que la historia convence e involucra.

STOPA esta hora casi me disponía a hacer mi post sobre esta película, pero ya vi dos publicaciones sobre ella así que preferí no hacerlo. No me gustó tanto la película, creo que ciertamente le falta originalidad porque parece casi un refrito de "Yo antes de ti", pero las personas que no vieron esta película tal vez la aprecien sin ese prejuicio.
A mí me gustó, aunque tiene sus predicciones, pero para mí fue encantador ver tantos lugares históricos, ame las escenas de la biblioteca, y bueno las historias de romance y comedia parece que terminan en tragedia con otros rostros. Yo antes de ti también la vi, y aunque tienen similares matices, las veo desde diferentes perspectivas, me las disfruto, y claro, cada quien tiene su opinión, es válido, y para eso ésta comunidad. Y aunque ya hay dos reseñas sobre ésta peli, seguramente tú tendrías una diferente, nunca están demás. Feliz inicio de semana 🫂🤗
