One of the last movies I saw was "The Last Supper", it was recommended in a video, I was curious about its plot, even though the guy pointed out that the performances and the technical aspects in general were not outstanding. It is a movie released in 1995 and its duration is 94 min, directed by Stacy Title and screenplay by Dan Rosen. The cast is of stars of the 90s, Cameron Diaz, Bill Paxton, Ron Perlman. Its name practically describes a bit of the film's plot, borrowing a religious/artistic/familiar title for all.
SPOILER! After the group of friends have a guest with grotesque moral characteristics, they fall into a verbal confrontation that gets heated until it turns physical and stabs him, causing his death. The group has differences on how to deal with this, and they debate what to do, until they let themselves be carried away by the sense of control and moral superiority they have over the guest, and come to the conclusion that they did the world a favor. They agree to continue with the dinners and make it a tradition, so they invite homophobes, pro-lifers, sexists....
The initial agreement was to talk to people while inviting them to a good meal, and see if they could change their minds about their ideals (which for their friends are not "correct"), but they quickly end up giving them fast food and no options, as soon as they have an opinion that is not aligned to their "liberal" thinking they decide to give them to drink the poisoned wine they have prepared for the condemned.
Stances change as they bury bodies in the garden, they go from trying to excuse their actions, to having 0 empathy for killing, and then some begin to feel tremendous guilt and rethink the point they have taken the situation to. A police sheriff confirms that their first "victim" was in fact a wanted child molester who murdered a young girl, but the sheriff end up being another victim of one of the individuals in the group, under the guise of "protecting" them. When the friends find out about this they have a confrontation and then make friends again, to finish with a little karma in the form of wine provided by their last guest that is tying up the ends when he sees signs of the murders and was waiting for them in the dining room.
It is a very simple film, its only setting is the house where the dinners and murders occur, the total cast will be about 15 people maximum, the photography and shots of the film in general are quite decent. Here what stands out are the dialogues and the background of the situations, the reactions of the characters, which is a lot of what happens nowadays with the cancellation culture for example. It is a good movie to watch on a Sunday or any weekday, alone or with company, I would not recommend it with children, because although the murders are mostly non-violent, the general tone of the film is for adults. Una de las últimas pelis que vi fue “La última cena”, la recomendaban en un video, me dio curiosidad su argumento, a pesar de que el chico señalaba que las actuaciones y lo técnico en general no era destacable. Es una película estrenada en 1995 y su duración es de 94 min, con dirección de Stacy Title y guion de Dan Rosen. El reparto es de estrellas de los 90s, Cameron Diaz, Bill Paxton, Ron Perlman. Su nombre prácticamente describe un poco de la trama de la película, tomando prestado un título religioso/artístico/familiar para todos.
SPOILER! Luego de que el grupo de amigos tuvieran un invitado con características morales grotescas, cayeron en una confrontación verbal que fue acalorando hasta volverse física y apuñalarlo, causando su muerte. El grupo tiene diferencias en como enfrentar esto, y debaten que hacer, hasta que se van dejando llevar por el sentido de control y superioridad moral que tienen sobre el invitado, y llegan a la conclusión de que le hicieron un favor al mundo. Acuerdan continuar con las cenas y volverlo una tradición, así invitan a homófobos, provida, sexistas…
El acuerdo inicial era dialogar con las personas mientras les invitaban a una buena comida, y ver si podían hacerles cambiar de parecer de sus ideales(los cuales para los amigos no son “correctos”), pero rápidamente acaban dándoles comida rápida y nada de opciones, en cuanto tienen una opinión que no está alineada a su pensamiento “liberal” deciden darles de tomar el vino envenenado que tienen preparado para los condenados.
Las posturas van cambiando conforme entierran cuerpos en el jardín, pasan de tratar de excusar sus acciones, a tener empatía 0 por matar, y luego algunos comienzan a sentir una culpa tremenda y a replantearse al punto que han llevado la situación. Un alguacil de policía confirma que su primer "víctima” era de hecho un victimario buscado por agresión a niños y que asesino a una jovencita, pero la alguacil acaba siendo otra víctima de uno de los individuos del grupo, con la excusa de “protegerlos”. Al enterarse los amigos de esto tienen una confrontación y luego se amigan nuevamente, para acabar con un poco de karma en forma de vino proporcionado por su último invitado que va atando cabos al ver indicios de los asesinatos y que los esperaba en el comedor.
Es una película muy sencilla, su único escenario es la casa donde ocurren las cenas y asesinatos, el cast total será de unas 15 personas máximo, la fotografía y planos de la película en general son bastante decentes. Aquí lo que sobresale son los diálogos y el trasfondo de las situaciones, las reacciones de los personajes, que es mucho de lo que sucede hoy en día con la cultura de la cancelación por ejemplo. Es una buena peli para ver un domingo o cualquier día de semana, solo o acompañado, no la recomendaría con niños, ya que aunque los asesinatos mayoritariamente no son violentos, el tono general de la película es para personas adultas. Espero que si la ven o ya la vieron comenten que les pareció, así sea una idea diferente a la mía prometo ser tolerante 😅😂 💞 Abrazos, besitos, tomen agüita y cepillense los dientes! 💞
