Animal House: a funny comedy and also a very festive one.

The year is 1962, and Faber College in the United States is the name of a private university, but this is a classist place where there are two antagonistic fraternities: Omega House integrated by serious and snooty students; and Delta House where students get drunk, laugh and spend their college years in the best way.

This is the setting for one of John Landis' funniest films, which is an invitation to party, fellowship and carefree fun. It vindicates the misfit who is able to have a good time and be happy in contradiction with the handsome and handsome upper class, personified here as despicable and unfriendly.

There are episodes in the film that develop interesting little characters such as: a teacher (Donald Sutherland) who is a hippie, a marijuana fanatic with a desire to be a writer, and who is bored with the authors he teaches in his class.

The film is the exaltation of the continuous party, it shows the contempt to any kind of authority, it has very funny scenes, it is a pioneer in what refers to college movies and among its protagonists is John Belushi who makes a truly explosive and inimitable performance.

The film portrays the highest and noblest of American culture and at the same time the lowest and most pathetic, achieving a blockbuster film that is considered one of the best comedies of all time. It is an ode to tolerance that denounces retrograde attitudes, and treats with great affection the supposedly unsuccessful, but good people. As a curious fact I comment that it is one of the first films that tells in its end credits what happened to its characters afterwards.

John Landis directed this film in 1978 starring John Belushi, Tim Matheson, John Vernon, Verna Bloom, Tom Hulce, Donald Sutherland, Peter Riegert, Bruce McGill, Karen Allen, Stephen Furst, Mark Metcalf, James Daughton, and Kevin Bacon.

I approached this movie in 1990, it was still the VHS era, I saw it as a rebound effect since it was from the same director of The Blues Brothers, I noticed it as a kind of transitional film for what was to come in The Blues Brothers, an agile direction with hilarious dialogues and a good musical selection in its soundtrack: Wonderful World (Sam Cooke), Who´s Sorry Now (Connie Francis), Louie Louie (The Kingsmen), Let´s Dance (Chris Montez), Hey Paula (Paul and Paula), Twistin´ the Night Away ( Sam Cooke), Shama Lama Ding Dong (Mark Davis), Theme From A Summer Place (Percy Faith and his Orchestra), Animal House ( Kenny Vance), and Shout ( The Isley Brothers, versioned here by Otis Day and the Knights).

A fun, anarchic and party movie. Highly recommended for a good time.

I recently revisited the movie and it lives up to its status as my favorite comedy and party comedy movie, its influence reaches as far as Revenge of the Nerds, Porky's and even The Simpsons and Family Guy.
