Los Padrinos de Tokyo, un anime social entretenido y con mensaje / Tokyo Godfathers, an entertaining social anime with a message.
Este anime (Tokyo Goodfathers), que nos traslada a la ciudad de Tokio, es una historia navideña pero su mensaje se puede apreciar en cualquier época del año.
La historia nos cuenta cómo un grupo formado por un jugador alcohólico, un travesti cristiano y una chica fugitiva, sobreviven en las calles de la ciudad, viviendo en lo que ellos llaman Tiendas Azules (lugares habilitados como refugios para los sin techo).
Encuentran a una niña bebé en un contenedor y deciden adoptarla temporalmente hasta que encuentren a su verdadera madre o descubran el motivo de su abandono. Estos personajes están muy bien descritos, siendo fácil empatizar con cada uno de ellos. Hana es un travesti homosexual obsesionado con la idea de ser madre, Gin es un cincuentón jugador y borracho que aporta lógica al grupo, y Miyuki es una joven que abandonó su hogar tras un fatídico suceso. La niña que encuentran se llama Kiyoko, que podría traducirse en español como niña pura. En este viaje, estos tres personajes, sin esperanza ni futuro, consiguen reconciliarse consigo mismos y con su pasado.
Hana quiere quedarse con la niña, Gin quiere llevarla a la policía, pero finalmente, ellos y Miyuki deciden ir en busca de su verdadera familia, por lo que inician una aventura por las calles de Tokio donde deberán enfrentarse a sus propios miedos y fantasmas.
En los 90 minutos que dura el anime, descubriremos su pasado, viviremos sus dramas, y también nos emocionaremos con ellos. Hay mucho drama pero con toques cómicos, casi de humor negro. Cabe destacar que, a pesar de las situaciones que se presentan, los protagonistas prefieren ironizar en lugar de lamentarse.

La historia se basa en un conjunto de casualidades, se trata de la suerte, en una época navideña en la que pueden ocurrir cosas maravillosas.
Hana creció sin padres y no quiere que a Kiyoko le pase lo mismo, por eso quiere darle cobijo, protegerla y hacer que se sienta querida. Fue drag queen en un famoso club nocturno de la capital japonesa. Conoce al hombre de su vida, deja su trabajo para formar una familia, pero su pareja muere por complicaciones del sida. Se siente culpable y decide alienarse en el mundo de los sin techo.

Miyuki es una joven que huyó de casa tras una discusión por la pérdida de un gato, apuñala a su padre, (un policía autoritario) y así huye, no se considera digna de la familia.

Gin tenía una tienda de bicicletas con la que él y su familia vivían muy bien, pero es un jugador borracho y mentiroso, dilapida los ahorros familiares y decide huir por vergüenza. Para causar lástima en los demás dice que su familia murió, pero no es cierto.

En la búsqueda de los padres de la niña, viven aventuras que paradójicamente los unen como una verdadera familia: encuentran pistas sobre los padres de la niña en la cesta en la que fue abandonada, roban ofrendas a los muertos en un cementerio, salvan a un jefe de la Yakuza de morir, en una boda son testigos del ataque al jefe de la Yakuza por parte de un enemigo latinoamericano que secuestra a Miyuky y a la niña, Gin es asaltada en un parque mientras cuida a un anciano moribundo, Hana rescata a la secuestrada, Gin es rescatada por una drag queen, el grupo atrapa a la madre de la chica que es una secuestradora con intenciones suicidas, Hana después de un colapso encuentra a la hija de Gin que es enfermera en un hospital, el bebé se salva milagrosamente de morir.

El bebé es finalmente devuelto a sus padres biológicos. Hana y Gin se recuperan en un hospital, Miyuki coge unos cigarrillos de la chaqueta de Gin pero no se da cuenta de que se le cae una bolsa con el billete de lotería premiado. Los padres de Kiyoko insisten en hablar con el trío de vagabundos para proponerles ser los padrinos de Kiyoko, y cuando el inspector está presentando al trío de vagabundos consigue reconocer a Miyuki como su hija.

La galería de secundarios es bastante buena, y está formada por: Ota el jefe de la Yakuza que es salvado por estos vagabundos cuando se queda atrapado en su vehículo, Sachiko, una mujer que dice ser la madre de la pequeña Kiyoko, que posteriormente intenta suicidarse dos veces arrojándose desde una gran altura, Madre que es la dueña de un bar de Drag Queen donde Hana solía trabajar, el cónyuge de Yasuo Sachiko, un policía que es el padre de Miyuki, la hija de Gin que es enfermera, y el médico que ayuda a Hana cuando se desmaya.
La película trata de la diferencia entre vivir una vida en sociedad y una vida en la calle como vagabundo. La película, de ritmo rápido y caótico, es un cuento de Navidad japonés.
Tokyo Godfathers no es una película para niños, ya que contiene escenas duras y trágicas. Yo diría que es apta para mayores de trece años.
Satoshi Kon dejó un legado de obras maestras como Perfect Blue (1997) , Millennium Actress (2001), (Paprika (2006) y esta única Tokyo Godfather (2003). En la película no hay ojos gigantes ni rostros aterciopelados. En sus personajes, las facciones, se notan las imperfecciones, lo que da una personalidad única a cada uno de sus personajes.
En ningún momento se victimiza o glorifica a ningún personaje. Logran redimirse, pero para el espectador es notorio que cada decisión tomada los llevó a estar donde están.
El film presenta una animación excelente con fondos impresionantes, es simplemente sublime, se observan unos rostros tremendamente expresivos. La técnica de animación es muy cuidada, con buena definición de movimientos.
Esta película demuestra como a través del anime también pueden retratarse temas sociales, aunque aquí están salpicados por algo de realismo mágico con drama y comedia disparatada.
Un gran saludo a toda la comunidad de Hive-Con, espero les haya gustado el presente post, y que estén incentivados a descubrir esta aleccionadora película y otras tan increíbles como estas del fallecido director japonés Satoshi Kon.

This anime (Tokyo Goodfathers), which takes us to the city of Tokyo, is a Christmas story but its message can be appreciated at any time of the year.
The story tells us how a group formed by an alcoholic gambler, a Christian transvestite, and a runaway girl, survive in the streets of the city, living in what they call Blue Tents (places set up as shelters for the homeless).
They find a little girl a baby in a dumpster and decide to adopt her temporarily until they find her real mother or discover the reason for her abandonment. These characters are very well described, being easy to empathize with each of them. Hana is a homosexual transvestite who is obsessed with the idea of being a mother, Gin is a gambling, drunken 50-year-old who brings logic to the group, and Miyuki is a young woman who left her home after a fateful event. The little girl they find is called Kiyoko, which could be translated in English as pure child. In this journey, these three characters, without hope or future, manage to reconcile with themselves and with their past.
Hana wants to keep the girl, Gin wants to take her to the police, but finally, they and Miyuki decide to go in search of their real family, so they begin an adventure through the streets of Tokyo where they must face their own fears and ghosts.
In the 90 minutes that the anime lasts, we will discover their past, we will live their dramas, and we also get excited with them. There is a lot of drama but with comic touches, almost black humor. It is noteworthy that despite the situations presented, the main characters prefer to ironize rather than lament.

The story is based on a set of coincidences, it is about luck, in a Christmas time when wonderful things can happen.
Hana grew up without parents and does not want the same thing to happen to Kiyoko, that's why she wants to give her shelter, protect her and make her feel loved. She was a drag queen in a famous nightclub in the Japanese capital. She meets the man of her life, quits her job to start a family, but her partner dies of complications from AIDS. She feels guilty and decides to alienate herself in the world of homelessness.

Miyuki is a young girl who ran away from home after an argument over the loss of a cat, she stabs her father, (an authoritarian policeman) and so runs away, she does not consider herself worthy of the family.

Gin owned a bicycle store with which he and his family lived very well, but he is a drunken gambler and a liar, he squanders the family savings and decides to run away out of shame. To cause pity in others he says that his family died, but that is not true.

In the search for the girl's parents, they experience adventures that paradoxically unite them as a real family: they find clues about the baby's parents in the basket in which she was abandoned, they steal offerings to the dead in a cemetery, they save a Yakuza boss from dying, at a wedding they witness the attack on the Yakuza boss by a Latin American enemy who kidnaps Miyuky and the baby, Gin is assaulted in a park while caring for a dying old man, Hana rescues the kidnapped, Gin is rescued by a drag queen, the group gets the girl's mother who is a kidnapper with suicidal intentions, Hana after a collapse finds Gin's daughter who is a nurse in a hospital, the baby is miraculously saved from dying.

The baby is finally returned to her biological parents. Hana and Gin recover in a hospital, Miyuki takes some cigarettes from Gin's jacket but doesn't realize that she drops a bag with the winning lottery ticket. Kiyoko's parents insist on talking to the trio of vagrants to propose them to be Kiyoko's godparents, and when the inspector is introducing the trio of vagrants he manages to recognize Miyuki as their daughter.

The gallery of supporting cast is quite good, consisting of: Ota the Yakuza boss who is saved by these homeless men when he is trapped in his vehicle, Sachiko, a woman who claims to be the mother of little Kiyoko, who subsequently attempts suicide twice by throwing herself from a great height, Mother who is the owner of a Drag Queen bar where Hana used to work, Yasuo Sachiko's spouse, a police officer who is the father of Miyuki, Gin's daughter who is a nurse, and the doctor who helps Hana when she collapses.
The film is about the difference between living a life in society versus a life on the street as a vagrant. The film is fast paced and chaotic, it is a Japanese Christmas story.
Tokyo Godfathers is not a film for children as it contains harsh and tragic scenes. I would say it is suitable for those over the age of thirteen.
Satoshi Kon left a legacy of masterpieces such as Perfect Blue (1997) , Millennium Actress (2001), (Paprika (2006) and this unique Tokyo Godfather (2003). In the film there are no giant eyes and velvety faces. In his characters, the factions, the imperfections are noticeable, which gives a unique personality to each of his characters.
At no time is any character victimized or glorified. They manage to redeem themselves, but for the viewer it is noticeable that each decision made led them to be where they are.
The film presents an excellent animation with impressive backgrounds, it is simply sublime, with tremendously expressive faces. The animation technique is very careful, with good definition of movements.
This film demonstrates how social issues can also be portrayed through anime, although here they are sprinkled with some magical realism with drama and wacky comedy.

This is such an under appreciated anime film. One of the rare instances in which anime told a story that didn't just involve teenagers going to school, haha.
You are right, but over time it has become a cult work, I got it on sale on the street in VCD version, I spent years looking for it until I got a copy on DVD and I could get a digital copy from the internet. It amuses me and makes me think. Regards.
I wish Japan would make more stories like these. It is a shame they sort of lost their way with anime. And yep, it's clear there is an audience for it too!

This is a good story , reminds one that xmas is always special i will do well to watch this myself
It is a very good anime and highly recommended, time flies by when you watch it, it also makes you reflect on the decisions you make and how far they can take you. Thank God that these three characters found an angel (the abandoned girl), who united them as a family. Best regards.
