In a holy temple, there lived a very beautiful girl named Medusa. She had long, golden hair that everyone loved. One night, the sea god Poseidon saw her and wanted her for himself.

Medusa was scared and ran inside the temple to hide. She prayed to the goddess Athena for help, but Athena did not answer.

​Poseidon broke into the temple and hurt Medusa. The other girls in the temple watched but were too afraid to help. After the god left, the temple was a mess.

Finally, the goddess Athena appeared, but she was not there to help. She was very angry because her temple was no longer clean.

​Athena did not blame the god; she blamed Medusa. She said Medusa’s beauty was the problem. To punish her, Athena decided to turn Medusa into a monster so that no one would ever want to look at her again.
