Sometimes I feel like I'm always out of luck, I know some people feel this too. Constantly in situations where it's like you're the only one that doesn't seem to get things done right or feel like the universe is in its own game against you. This is enough to bring anybody down. Not Sam Greenfield though, she never let her luck define who she was. If she had her mind focused on something, she does it even if it doesn't end well for her. It's inspirational to watch her not give up, I know how hard it can be when it looks like everything is working against you. Not a lot of people believe in luck, some people think it's the law of attraction, whatever you put out there, you recieve. Could be true but I grew up believing in luck, I grew up believing that sometimes, we are at the right place at the right time because we're 'lucky' but believing in good luck also means you have to believe in bad luck, believing that no matter how hard you try, somethings won't just work out for you because of bad luck.

Sam, the protagonist in the movie believed she was the most unluckiest person in the world and I'm still surprised how that didn't bring her down, that and growing up in a foster home. The movie begins with her finally moving out and being independent knowing so well things might not go the way she'd expect because she was the "unluckiest person in the world". I would have probably given up if I was Sam, I know how it is with the little things that happen to me because of bad luck and how I give up easily. I learnt a lesson from this movie.

Luck is a 2022 animated movie directed by Peggy Holmes and produced by Skydance Animation. I believe Luck is the first animated movie produced by Skydance.

It stars Simon Pegg as the voice of a lucky cat, you might know him from the mission impossible franchise as well as some other familiar faces like Whoopi Goldberg and Lil Rel Howery. I didn't know much of the other cast. Truth is I didn't recognize any of the voices until I saw their names at the end of the movie but that didn't stop me from enjoying it.

The Plot

Sam Greenfield is an orphaned girl who moves out of her foster home to live independently but is constantly plagued with bad luck. She finds a lucky penny after feeding a black cat on the street. She realizes the penny is a special one that's brings it's holder good luck when things start to work out the way she wanted. She looses the penny and hopes to find the cat again. This leads her to a magical world that controls the luck of every single person on earth.

She makes a deal with Bob, the black cat to get another penny so she could give it to her foster sister who is looking to be adopted and help Bob from being banished to the world of bad luck just below them. Things do not go as planned so Sam decides to ask the dragon in charge of the world of good luck to get a penny so she could fix everything.

In an attempt to stop bad luck for good, Sam and Bob turn off the Randomizer, a machine that keeps the balance between good and back luck so her sister would get a chance at adoption without a lucky penny. Her action causes chaos as the machine is clogged and shuts down the good and bad luck world for good.

Sam, Bob and everybody else need to work together and fast before it is too late and the damage becomes permanent. Will they get the machine running again? Does Sam help her foster sister get adopted? You'll just have to watch it to find out.

My Opinion

If I'm being honest, this is not the best animated movie I've seen this year comparing it to minions Rise of Gru and Hotel Transylvania. I felt like they could have really done a lot with the story line. Apart from Sam going to another world, the rest of the plot is pretty much straight forward until they add a little twist at the end. I still like it though, it kept me engaged for a while.

This isn't your regular movie plot where the writers have to add a bad guy to make it more entertaining. There is really no antagonist in the movie, just a couple of characters trying to fix their problems and the problem of everybody else.

I also like the movie for the life lessons. A lot of people out there think they run out of luck everytime. It isn't easy seeing people get 'lucky' and none of it rubs off on you. Take a lesson from Sam, never let any situation change who you are, who you are to other people and most importantly, who you are to yourself. Everybody is special and everything that doesn't work out now is just preparation for everything that will work out in the future, you can count on that. This being Skydance Animation's first animated movie, I'll say they're off to a good start.
And if there's truely a good luck world out there, they should better give me some luck, I need to win the lottery. It's a fun movie the whole family can sit back and watch together.

I'll give the movie a 6/10 rating because even though I enjoyed watching it, I don't think it's something I would want to watch again.

A veces siento que siempre estoy sin suerte, sé que algunas personas sienten esto también. Constantemente en situaciones en las que es como si fueras el único que no parece hacer las cosas bien o sentir que el universo está en su propio juego contra ti. Esto es suficiente para hundir a cualquiera. Pero no a Sam Greenfield, que nunca dejó que su suerte definiera quién era. Si tenía su mente centrada en algo, lo hacía aunque no terminara bien para ella. Es inspirador verla no rendirse, sé lo difícil que puede ser cuando parece que todo está en tu contra. No mucha gente cree en la suerte, algunos piensan que es la ley de la atracción, que todo lo que pones ahí, lo recibes. Podría ser cierto, pero yo crecí creyendo en la suerte, crecí creyendo que a veces estamos en el lugar adecuado en el momento adecuado porque tenemos "suerte", pero creer en la buena suerte también significa que tienes que creer en la mala suerte, creer que no importa lo mucho que te esfuerces, algunas cosas no te saldrán bien por culpa de la mala suerte.

Sam, la protagonista de la película creía que era la persona más desafortunada del mundo y aún me sorprende cómo eso no la derrumbó, eso y el haber crecido en un hogar de acogida. La película comienza con ella finalmente mudándose y siendo independiente sabiendo muy bien que las cosas podrían no ir como ella esperaba porque era la "persona más desafortunada del mundo". Probablemente me habría rendido si fuera Sam, sé cómo son las pequeñas cosas que me pasan por mala suerte y cómo me rindo fácilmente. Aprendí una lección con esta película.

No conocía mucho del resto del reparto. La verdad es que no reconocí ninguna de las voces hasta que vi sus nombres al final de la película, pero eso no me impidió disfrutarla.

La trama

Sam Greenfield es una niña huérfana que se muda de su casa de acogida para vivir de forma independiente, pero está constantemente plagada de mala suerte. Encuentra una moneda de la suerte después de alimentar a un gato negro en la calle. Se da cuenta de que el penique es especial y trae buena suerte a su poseedor cuando las cosas empiezan a salir como ella quería. Pierde el penique y espera volver a encontrar al gato. Esto la lleva a un mundo mágico que controla la suerte de cada persona en la tierra.

Hace un trato con Bob, el gato negro para conseguir otro centavo y así poder dárselo a su hermana adoptiva que busca ser adoptada y ayudar a Bob de ser desterrado al mundo de la mala suerte justo debajo de ellos. Las cosas no salen como se planean así que Sam decide pedirle al dragón encargado del mundo de la buena suerte que le consiga un centavo para poder arreglar todo.

En un intento de acabar con la mala suerte para siempre, Sam y Bob apagan el Aleatorizador, una máquina que mantiene el equilibrio entre la buena y la mala suerte para que su hermana tenga la oportunidad de ser adoptada sin un penique de la suerte. Su acción provoca el caos, ya que la máquina se atasca y apaga el mundo de la buena y la mala suerte para siempre.

Sam, Bob y todos los demás tienen que trabajar juntos y rápido antes de que sea demasiado tarde y el daño sea permanente. ¿Conseguirán que la máquina vuelva a funcionar? ¿Ayudará Sam a que su hermana de acogida sea adoptada? Tendrás que verlo para averiguarlo.

Mi opinión

Si soy sincero, esta no es la mejor película de animación que he visto este año, comparándola con Minions Rise of Gru y Hotel Transylvania. Sentí que realmente podrían haber hecho mucho con la línea de la historia. Aparte de que Sam va a otro mundo, el resto de la trama es bastante directa hasta que añaden un pequeño giro al final. No obstante, me gustó, me mantuvo enganchado durante un rato.

Esta no es la trama habitual de una película en la que los guionistas tienen que añadir un malo para hacerla más entretenida. Realmente no hay un antagonista en la película, sólo un par de personajes que intentan arreglar sus problemas y el de todos los demás.

También me gusta la película por las lecciones de vida. Mucha gente cree que se le acaba la suerte siempre. No es fácil ver cómo la gente tiene "suerte" y no se le contagia a uno. Toma una lección de Sam, nunca dejes que ninguna situación cambie lo que eres, lo que eres para otras personas y lo más importante, lo que eres para ti mismo. Todo el mundo es especial y todo lo que no funciona ahora es sólo una preparación para todo lo que funcionará en el futuro, puedes contar con ello. Siendo esta la primera película de animación de Skydance Animation, diré que han tenido un buen comienzo.
Y si de verdad hay un mundo de buena suerte ahí fuera, más vale que me den algo de suerte, necesito ganar la lotería. Es una película divertida que toda la familia puede ver junta.

Le daré a la película una calificación de 6/10 porque aunque disfruté viéndola, no creo que sea algo que quisiera volver a ver.
