WEEK 2

 "spooku.jpg"

This week’s list features only animated films. All the following films are rated PG. Keeping up with the previous list, all the movies on this list will be in chronological order. Even at 40, I still absolutely love almost all animated movies. I’m a total nerd for animated and stop motion films. Everything from Disney to Dreamworks to Warner Brothers, I enjoy it all. And keeping up with the last article, I will not be providing spoilers. Grab a glass of cider, maybe a caramel apple, and a cozy blanket, and let’s get to watching these awesome movies!

 "corpse bride.jpg"

First up we have the mostly underrated film, Corpse Bride. This stop motion animated film premiered in 2005 and is rated PG. One of Tim Burton’s animated films, this movie is set in Victorian times and features a star-studded cast, dark and bright color schemes, and some catchy tunes.

“Isn’t the view beautiful? It takes my breath away. Well, it would if I had any.” – Emily the Corpse Bride

 "monster house.jpg"

Secondly, we have this comedy horror movie, Monster House. Making its debut in 2006, this animated film became a cult classic. This is a computer animated film involves a few good friends rallying together to help a neighborhood against evil.

“Back to business: eggs, shaving cream, toilet paper. Without candy, I'm afraid your house is a bulls-eye with shingles.” - Jenny

paranorman.jpg

ParaNorman is another stop motion animated movie that is both creepy and cute. Making its spooky debut in 2012, this movie is still a family favorite here in our house. This movie touches on the subject of death in an odd but relatable way. Misfits unite in this fun family film.

“Awesome! Oh, do you think you can see my dog, Bub? He was run over by an animal rescue van. Tragic and ironic.” - Neil

frankenweenie.jpg

Next up, we have the adorable and very weird, Frankenweenie. This 3D stop motion animated film also premiered in 2012. The cast of this classic is widely varied but fantastic. This spin on an old classic tale is sure to be a delight no matter your age. I definitely recommend watching this one at least twice.

“How are we supposed to see an invisible goldfish?” -Toshiaki

Book of life.jpg

And last, but definitely not the least, we have The Book of Life. This movie premiered in 2014 and flashes a lot of bright colors and memorable songs. This movie is a wonderful retelling of a great story, and it is presented as such. This should be part of a movie marathon for sure.

“The world keeps spinning, and the tales keep turning, and the people come and people go, but they’re never forgotten. And the one truth we know, it held true one more time… That love, true love, the really, really good kind of love never dies” - La Muerte

I do hope you have enjoyed this list. Let me know which one of these is your favorite. Stay tuned for next week’s list!

Halloween is my absolutely favorite holiday. I love everything about it! Monster House is a great movie!

I am a huge fan of stop motion animation, not sure why maybe because it has a certain charm to it that is hard to replicate through traditional animation methods. Done right, stop motion can be amazingly detailed and convey so much emotion.

I need to check out Frankenweenie, somehow that one has flown under my radar all these years.

Can't wait to read your next article in this series. By chance, are you planning one for Christmas? Not as varied with releases but there are some gems based around that holiday as well.

I love stop motion movies. I have been interested in them since things like Wallace and Grommit.
My next part of this series will be posted next week!
I had not considered Christmas series or post, but I am thinking about it now.
