En esta oportunidad hablaré sobre la serie que revolucionó el mundo de la animación tras afianzarse en el catálogo de la plataforma Netflix, durante la temporada final del año pasado, debido a la originalidad y estética innovadora de sus diseños, cuyos acabados presentan un estilo steampunk muy artístico, así como por su trama de carácter adulto, que está cargada de personajes carismáticos, con motivaciones convincentes y experiencias correctamente exploradas. El programa es la adaptación de una de las principales historias que componen el universo del exitoso videojuego multijugador League of Legends, del cual aún resta mucho material argumental del que echar mano, tanto para desarrollar las siguientes temporadas de esta misma obra, como para la creación de otras producciones hermanas ambientadas en el mismo mundo. De modo que Riot Games, la productora propietaria de la marca y Fortiche Production, el estudio de animación francés que contribuyó en el desarrollo de la adaptación televisiva, tienen un largo camino por recorrer juntos (a no ser que su relación se extinga).
La serie Arcane se enmarca en el subgénero de la ciencia ficción conocido como Retrofuturismo, donde se muestran supuestos avances científicos, que se basan en tecnologías antiguas, como por ejemplo: la de las máquinas a vapor (Steampunk), los artefactos de relojería (Clockpunk) o los motores diésel (Dieselpunk), entre otros estilos. Esta clase de ciencia ficción no es tan habitual como podría serlo quizá el ciberpunk o las óperas espaciales, pero tiene su espacio en el entretenimiento audiovisual, muestra de ello son las películas: Máquinas Mortales, La Brújula Dorada y HellBoy. La fantasía es otro elemento que se entrelaza con la ciencia en este tipo de obras, en este caso particular esto es más que evidente, pues precisamente un descubrimiento científico al que se le da el nombre de Hextech, tiene como propósito el control de la energía de lo arcano, es decir de la magia.
This time I will talk about the series that revolutionized the world of animation after establishing itself in the Netflix platform catalog, during the final season of last year, due to the originality and innovative aesthetics of its designs, whose finishes present a very steampunk style. artistic, as well as for its adult character plot, which is full of charismatic characters, with convincing motivations and correctly explored experiences. The program is the adaptation of one of the main stories that make up the universe of the successful multiplayer video game League of Legends, of which there is still a lot of plot material to draw on, both to develop the following seasons of this same work, and to create of other sister productions set in the same world. So Riot Games, the production company that owns the brand, and Fortiche Production, the French animation studio that helped develop the TV adaptation, have a long way to go together (unless their relationship fizzles out).
The Arcane series is part of the science fiction subgenre known as Retrofuturism, where supposed scientific advances are shown, which are based on ancient technologies, such as: steam machines (Steampunk), clockwork artifacts (Clockpunk ) or diesel engines (Dieselpunk), among other styles. This kind of science fiction is not as common as cyberpunk or space operas might be, but it has its place in audiovisual entertainment, proof of which are the movies: Mortal Machines, The Golden Compass and HellBoy. Fantasy is another element that is intertwined with science in this type of work, in this particular case this is more than evident, since precisely a scientific discovery that is given the name of Hextech, has as its purpose the control of energy of the arcane, that is to say of magic.
El argumento de esta serie nos describe los conflictos que mantienen enfrentadas a dos ciudades y sus respectivas sociedades, por un lado o mejor dicho por encima de la superficie, se ubica Piltover, una próspera, opulente, culta, atractiva e influyente metrópoli costera, que es gobernada por una bien organizada oligarquía aristocrática; en cambio, por debajo se encuentra el contaminado, decadente, lúgubre, arruinado y marginado distrito subterráneo de Zaun, que está dominado por el poder industrial y agobiado por las mafias criminales. La tensa calma entre ambas poblaciones se interrumpe, dando paso a la violencia, cuando en “La ciudad del progreso” es desarrollado el llamado Hextech, que permite el control energético de la magia, mientras que en “La ciudad hundida” surge una droga capaz de convertir a quienes la consumen en monstruos temibles y muy poderosos físicamente.
Inmersas en la pugna sociopolítica que envuelve a ambas ciudades, se encuentran dos hermanas: Vi y Powder (Jinx), quienes ejercen un rol protagónico dentro de la trama y dan pie a un conflicto familiar y sentimental, que otorga una importante carga dramática a la historia, siendo este el centro de la narración. Sin embargo, no se trata de la típicamente cursi y empalagosa disputa entre hermanas en la que todo surge por alguna preferencia de parte de los padres durante la infancia, el enfrentamiento por el amor de un hombre o la simple envidia. Contrariamente, en este caso se trata de una serie de rencores y desavenencias que se generan al calor de los hechos y que se van gestando orgánica y naturalmente conforme avanza la trama, como consecuencia de las trágicas y perturbadoras situaciones que les toca atravesar a ambas, lo cual crea profundas cicatrices emocionales en las dos y desencadena fatídicos trastornos psicológicos en una de ellas.

On the one hand, or rather above the surface, is Piltover, a prosperous, opulent, cultured, attractive and influential coastal metropolis, which it is governed by a well-organized aristocratic oligarchy; instead, beneath it lies the polluted, decaying, grim, blighted, and marginalized underground district of Zaun, which is dominated by industrial power and plagued by criminal gangs. The tense calm between both populations is interrupted, giving way to violence, when in "The City of Progress" the so-called Hextech is developed, which allows the energetic control of magic, while in "The Sunken City" a drug capable of of turning those who consume it into fearsome and very physically powerful monsters.
Immersed in the sociopolitical struggle that surrounds both cities, two sisters meet: Vi and Powder (Jinx), who play a leading role in the plot and give rise to a family and sentimental conflict, which gives an important dramatic charge to the story. story, this being the center of the narrative. However, it is not the typical corny and cloying dispute between sisters in which everything arises from some preference on the part of the parents during childhood, the confrontation for the love of a man or simple envy. On the contrary, in this case it is a series of grudges and disagreements that are generated in the heat of the events and that are brewing organically and naturally as the plot progresses, as a consequence of the tragic and disturbing situations that both of them have to go through. which creates deep emotional scars in the two and triggers fatal psychological disorders in one of them.
La grandeza de la narración radica en que ninguno de los bandos es completamente bueno o completamente malo, cada parte tiene sus virtudes y defectos, no se trata del común enfrentamiento entre el bien más puro y el mal más tenebroso, aquí nada es totalmente blanco o negro, las situaciones mostradas y las distintas personalidades involucradas, navegan en un amplio degradado de grises y van dando matices particulares al tono general de la obra. Otro aspecto importante es que si bien se trata de una historia protagonizada por personajes femeninos, estas dos chicas no son perfectas y tienen tanto fortalezas como debilidades que dan forma a sus respectivos caracteres. Pero, no se trata solo de una línea argumental central, pues también tiene subtramas muy interesantes y bien desarrolladas.
El sustancioso núcleo dramático de la historia, que está envuelto en un contexto de lucha entre clases sociales, a la vez que es complementado por conceptos retro futuristas y fantasiosos y todo ello decorado por tan sublime diseño del arte y animación, se enriquece aún más y consigue un considerable grado de entretenimiento e impacto emocional, gracias a la contundente dosis de acción que le inyectan los agresivos enfrentamientos que se producen continuamente durante la narración. En este sentido debo mencionar, que aunque se trate de una propuesta bastante madura, realista y hasta cierto punto desgarradora, el nivel de violencia grafica que maneja es poco explícito, no expone visualmente demasiada sangre, lo cual me parece bien, pues no creo que sea algo necesario para elevar la calidad y quizá pudiera empañar la hermosa apariencia de la animación, pero sé que algunas personas podrían echar en falta algo de gore.
The greatness of the narrative lies in the fact that neither side is completely good or completely bad, each side has its virtues and defects, it is not about the common confrontation between the purest good and the darkest evil, here nothing is totally white or black, the situations shown and the different personalities involved, navigate in a wide gradient of grays and give particular nuances to the general tone of the work. Another important aspect is that although it is a story featuring female characters, these two girls are not perfect and have both strengths and weaknesses that shape their respective characters. But, it is not just a central plot line, as it also has very interesting and well-developed subplots.
The rich dramatic core of the story, which is wrapped in a context of struggle between social classes, while being complemented by retro-futuristic and fanciful concepts and all decorated by such sublime art design and animation, is further enriched and achieves a considerable degree of entertainment and emotional impact, thanks to the forceful dose of action injected by the aggressive confrontations that occur continuously during the narration. In this sense, I must mention that although it is a fairly mature, realistic and to a certain extent heartbreaking proposal, the level of graphic violence that it manages is not very explicit, it does not visually expose too much blood, which seems good to me, because I do not think that It's a necessary thing to raise the quality and it might tarnish the beautiful appearance of the animation, but I know some people might miss some gore.
El reparto de actores que interpretan las voces de los personajes en el idioma original, es decir en inglés, está encabezado por Hailee Steinfeld en el rol de Vi y Ella Purnell como Jinx, sin embargo, más allá de que Steinfeld me encanta y tiene una voz preciosa, no puedo hacer mayor comentario al respecto, ya que vi la serie en idioma español y no tengo idea de quienes hacen el doblaje, lo cierto es que no tengo quejas en ese aspecto. La efusividad de los personajes tanto en lo que respecta a las voces como a sus expresiones faciales y corporales me parecen convincentes, aún siendo un producto basado en un videojuego y que utiliza animación 3D con sombreados que simulan un efecto 2D, la calidad de sus transiciones es muy buena y tiene un excelente grado de fluidez en su animación.
Sin duda recomiendo la serie a todo tipo de públicos, en general me parece muy interesante y aborda temas complejos, bien sea directamente o de forma metafórica, como es el caso del consumo y tráfico de drogas, las diferencias sociales entre ricos y pobres, las distorsiones morales que se generan en quienes ejercen poder y los efectos perjudiciales para la salud mental, que pueden provocar determinados acontecimientos trágicos en las vidas de las personas. Es una producción bastante entretenida, aunque su fortaleza esta más en la profundidad y buen desarrollo de sus personajes, así como en su espectacularidad visual, que en el dinamismo de sus escenas. Mi calificación final para la serie Arcane es de 9 / 10.
The cast of actors who interpret the voices of the characters in the original language, that is to say in English, is led by Hailee Steinfeld in the role of Vi and Ella Purnell as Jinx, however, beyond the fact that I love Steinfeld and she has a precious voice, I can not comment more on it, since I saw the series in Spanish and I have no idea who does the dubbing, the truth is that I have no complaints in that regard. The effusiveness of the characters, both in terms of their voices and their facial and body expressions, seem convincing to me, even though it is a product based on a video game and uses 3D animation with shadows that simulate a 2D effect, the quality of its transitions is very good and has an excellent degree of fluidity in its animation.
Without a doubt I recommend the series to all kinds of audiences, in general I find it very interesting and deals with complex issues, either directly or metaphorically, such as drug use and trafficking, social differences between rich and poor, moral distortions that are generated in those who exercise power and the detrimental effects on mental health, which can cause certain tragic events in people's lives. It is a quite entertaining production, although its strength lies more in the depth and good development of its characters, as well as in its spectacular visuals, than in the dynamism of its scenes. My final rating for the Arcane series is 9/10.

This is the one I have ready to watch this weekend, I hope I have enough time to watch it all, it has been recommended to me since it was released. Most people speak very well of the series and also I've seen the animation and it really catches my attention, it seems to be one of the best animations Netflix has.

I agree with your score and opinion on this animated show. This is a series that quickly became large after it was released. The Imagine Dragons track used as the theme song was even all over social media. At first I thought, for sure, that it was overhyped but after I saw it, I knew that it wasn't. Firstly, the animation is just very beautiful. I like how the characters interact and how the images flash sometimes. The details of it all was just top notch. I also really like how the story unraveled slowly over 3 episodes. We basically got used to the initial dynamic before everything changed. That was where, for me, the entire emotional confusion began. As a viewer, I did not know if I hated Powder or felt sorry for her. Well, as you said, the characters had their own flaws and none was purely good or purely evil. That made it a tad more relatable in my opinion.

Esta serie me gustó muchísimo, yo no soy fan de este tipo de juegos pero siempre veía los videos de presentación de cada personaje solo para saber la historia😂 y el hecho que hicieran esta serie de Arcane me dejó emocionada porque me gusta mucho Jinx y Ekko (me encantaría ver más de él en su próxima temporada).

Hay algo que no mencione en la reseña, pero que tiene mucho que ver con tu comentario, y es que la serie pese a estar basada en personajes de un videojuego, no requiere que el espectador tenga conocimientos sobre el material original, el guion esta tan bien escrito y la historia es tan redonda, que todo lo que hace falta saber se explica dentro de la propia serie. De hecho, yo no tengo mayor conocimiento sobre el juego y pude comprender bien la trama y llevar el hilo de los hechos. Saludos, nos estaremos leyendo.
Sabes que por un momento se me hizo difícil seguir la trama de esta historia y no por nunca haber jugado el juego del cual esta basada, sino por los diferentes tramas que hay, ya que estaba completamente enfocado en la historia trágica de las dos hermanas, pero debo admitir que los últimos episodios de la temporada fueron muy buenos y me dejo enanchado con la historia.
Sé que cuando se acerque el estreno de la segunda temporada, volveré a ver esta primera temporada, para prestar atención a todos esa lucha d poder que ocurre en la gran ciudad y asi disfrutar de la historia por completo.
