Skydog (film): A movie so bad that you have to see it to believe it

Believe it or not, yours truly was involved in a pilot TV show when I was a teenager. While we were very excited for this startup project and what seemed to be a fortune was poured into the production of it and I had dreams of stardom with my main character of "Michael Foster" the show was exceptionally bad and only ever managed to get 2 episodes on local television before all the sponsors dropped the show and it was taken off the air.

The writing and most of the acting, including my own, was just atrocious in the show I was in and I would imagine that there are just a ton of similar projects out there that fall down the same road.

When I saw "Skydog" on my Plex server I was initially intrigued because I kind of enjoy movies that feature cute dogs. However, it took only about 5 minutes of watching the production to realize that this movie was just going to be terrible.

Now I wasn't exactly expecting some sort of movie that would be nominated for awards just by looking at the cover art but this film is exceptionally bad. This isn't always a terrible thing though because this movie is so bad that it gets the coveted "so bad it's good" award from me.

So the story here is that there is this teenager that wants to be a pilot but doesn't quite have what it takes in order to pass the tests. There is tension created because of the fact that the person who is standing in the way of him sitting for the pilot test is his stepfather, who just happens to be a flight instructor.

After being denied access to sit the pilot test by his stepfather, Colt Lifestone (love the name) is in the parking lot lamenting his failure as a potential pilot when he sees a very cute stray dog eating garbage.

he can't believe his stupid and rather unattractive eyes when he goes over to pet this cute little dog and then some guy who was probably working for free and did the shot in one take drives up and screams "hey! Is that your dog? He's been making a lot of problems here so get him out of here or I'll call animal control!"

That one scene was done so poorly that it really made me laugh and this laughter was unintentional by the film makers.

Things carry on in a similar absurd fashion but things take a turn for the even worse as far as a script goes when it is revealed that both his mother and stepfather are CIA agents and somehow his mother ends up getting kidnapped by some sort of international terrorist operative organization that of course, consists of only white people.

Colt, inspired by his doggy friend "Oreo" get's back on his pilot training with the objective being to rescue his mom on his own because, well, because that totally makes sense that he would be the one for the job.

This movie is absolutely atrocious if we are attempting to take it seriously. I was reminded of The Room when I was watching it because they clearly set out to make an action film with family-oriented undertones but instead they ended up making a laugh riot because the dialogue is awful and the acting is worse. There isn't a single person in this film that can act and this becomes evident from the first few minutes of the movie.

In the scenes where Colt is trying to pass his flying test, it is quite evident that the airplane they are filming in is securely on the ground in a room with a blue background. That's just the START of the film too.

Should I watch it?

It's going to take the right kind of person to enjoy this. If you are looking for a traditionally good film that has a dog in it, this is definitely not that. The dog isn't actually even in most of the film and that was merely used as a marketing ploy to get people to watch this turd. The marketing strategy was a good one because I for one never would have even opened this thing had it not been for the dog on the poster.

For people that occasionally enjoy movies that are unintentionally bad and filled with horrible dialogue and worse acting, this film can be a lot of fun. Get stoned and make fun of it with your friends because everything, including the royalty-free music is just 100% awful.

Hahaha you made me laugh when you said this movie was a bad movie. Your argument and comments make it even less worth examining. A true film critic. We've all seen a really bad movie that makes you want to leave in the first 5 minutes. Continue your critiques if you are very good at doing so

😂😂😂😂😭
I think I've come across this sow somewhere.
I didn't watch it though, but I am intrigued.
On to my pirating sites to see what's there..

if you happen to recall where you accidentally watched it do let me know. I think the guy that runs our Plex server was messing with us and that is how I ended up with it.

Nah this does sound like a skip and a movie that would have gone straight to video back in the day. I just cannot watch anything suspect these days and I have standards.

I know what you mean we are spoiled for choice these days if i am using the expression correctly and if you are at all busy you can't be wasting it on shite like this.

If I get free time, I would like to see it once.
