Huge Plot Flaw in The Unholy Trinity (2024)
Samuel L Jackson and Pierce Brosnan in a Western movie is definitely a must watch. The rating on IMDB is 5.5/10, and that doesn't sound like a must watch, but true movie fans know, they know those two guys in a Western is a compulsory watch and even if they do the worst job with the movie it would still feel good watching it and judging. It's kinda a I gotta see this for myself situation.
The Plot Flaw Proper
I think the 5.5/10 is a perfect rating. The story was alright but there were some unconvincing stuff about the plot, for example how can a man hide some gold, go to jail, is about to be hanged, his son comes to witness the hanging, he gets to say a few words to his son and even whisper, but he doesn't tell his son where his buried gold is?
That's quite impossible.
And he wasn't in bad terms with his son or anything. There's no way he'll want the gold to stay buried forever when he has a son surviving him. And the gold wasn't even buried in a dangerous place that would have made you say he doesn't want his son to go through the dangers of retrieving the gold.
So there's no reason at all!
He just talks to his son, tells him to go kill the man who framed him for a crime, and then goes to get hanged quietly.
The man he asks his son to kill is even in the same town the gold is buried, but it doesn't occur to him to tell his son "oh and after that, there's some gold I shallowly buried in a simple location, go on enjoy".
Nothing like that. This is just almost impossible, and the "almost" in that statement represents a very tiny chance, so tiny and unconvincing that it is lame to put that in a plot. It is not one of those almost impossible things that makes you say "wow", but one of those that makes you disappointed.
Especially if you know about how crucial one's dying moment is.
In law there is something called a "dying declaration". A dying declaration is what a person says just when they are about to die concerning their death or any circumstances surrounding it.
See Section 40(1) of the Nigerian Evidence Act, Section 32(1) of India's, and Section 804(b)(2) of USA's
These declarations are admissible as evidence. And it is not just admitted but given very high regard unlike other things people say when they're going about their normal lives.
Why are dying declarations regarded so highly? The logic is that just when a person is about to face certain death they're in a position where lying can not be contemplated. Also, at that moment they're in the biggest mood to tell the truth and make true revelations.
So that's the mood this man was in just when he was about to be hanged, plus all the other reasons discussed above about why he had to tell his son about the gold, and he did not. What in the hell?🤦🏾♂️
That quite ruined the movie for me, but it was Samuel L Jackson and Pierce Brosnan in a Western, so I watched on and enjoyed what I could. Jackson as usual put on a great performance, that dude is always such a pleasure to watch.
According to Far Out Magazine Jackson has is the actor with the most credits for being in 149 movies, yet I don't think this guy has been in enough movies, we need to see him more before he dies 😅, he's too good at what he does.
