I wonder if I'm the only one asking this question, isn't it the most convenient plot in the world? LOL. Like nothing says "we're not even trying" like this plot. Why do the main rivals always have to meet in the finals?

Why can't they meet in the semifinals, half way into the tournament, or even on the very first fight? Yeah, look at that, why can't their fight be in the opening round?

I think that's something that needs to be worked on in these tournament movies. I think all the tournament movies I can remember went this exact way. The hero and the villain joins a tournament and the always meet in the finals for the last clash. Why? All the movies from all the old kung fu movies, to Van Damme's old movies, and now all the Karate Kid movies. Why?

Maybe the first few movies about a fight tournament could be tolerated to go this way, but after the first few the writers are supposed to wrap it up and make a rule that it is too convenient and that rivals should never meet in the final anymore. Like that should have become the number 1 don't. But here we are...

I get the reasoning behind it, though, the final is the most important match and a lot more is at stake, adding that to the rivalry between the hero and villain comes together to heighten the climax as much as they can manage.

But the climax would not always be less if it isn't a match as important as the final, they can work some other plot into the whole thing to make a match that isn't the final still be a huge climax. Or they can make a good reason why the two guys can't meet until a final. Like maybe make the two guys to be from different districts and have to win in their districts and the two winners from each district would meet in a final.

Easy peasy, isn't it? Enough of the applause, you're too kind.

This new Karate Kid was a good watch, though. It was lovely seeing how they wove La Russo, Mr Miyagi, and the absolute Legend Jackie Chan into the whole thing.

I also love how the hero became a teacher at first trying to help someone else win a boxing match, that was unexpected and a nice twist to throw at us while we were thinking the movie would be too easy and straightforward and simply become all about the tournament the hero would fight.

I'm also a huge fan of martial arts and good choreography and this movie delivered for me.

Why Do There Always Gotta be a Fancy Kick?

This is something that should have been an issue for me, because all the Karate Kid movies have been about that one kick that ends the match. It was supposed to be cliche but in this movie the kick was no joke at all, it was some very interesting, complicated and absolutely cool kick.

That plus the fact that it now seems like part of the lore that has to continue, especially if they can keep coming up with ovation worthy kicks like that. Great stuff!
