The Series See (2019) and all the Concerns it Raised for Me

Some years back I wanted to watch more stuff from Jason Momoa and I came across this series called "See". It looked like it was going to be perfect, the setting had the people using swords and handheld weapons, and dressing like the pre-modern era. Just like the kind of setting that made us fall in love with Momoa (The Game of Thrones Setting).

I was going to jump into it until I found out that everyone was blind in the movie.

That was a revolutionary storyline, one of the most challenging to portray that I've ever heard of, more reason why I should jump into it. But at the same time I was almost certain that there's no way they're going to pull it off completely.

I have an eye for details that is too sharp, I'm too much of an overthinker and a logician, I thought there's no way I wouldn't pick up things that would ruin the movie for me despite the best efforts of the makers of the movie.

So I didn't watch it, I kept postponing it until now, I just watched the first episode and I was thoroughly impressed, but I picked up a lot of things wrong too, just like I feared and just one episode in I kinda feel like I might not continue.

Why Do They Have Stylish Hair Cuts and Ornaments?

If humans couldn't see would they wear necklaces and trinkets? Would they have hairstyles?

I understand cutting the hair to feel better, because overgrown tangled hair could itch and be uncomfortable in many ways, but styling it? That's very unbelievable for a blind society. So why do they have guys with styled hairs in this series?

Also why do they have guys wearing ornaments like necklaces, ivory and stuff? In our society today is there any reason for wearing these things apart from for the beautification? Of course not. It's not for warmth or any other purpose. So why do they have a blind society with all of those?

This Blind Woman Beckoned on Other Blind People to Come

You know the gesture you make with your hand to say "come". If you were blind and everyone else blind is it possible you'd still make that gesture to say "come".

In today's world maybe some blind people make it, just maybe, but the only explanation has to be that they make it because they live amongst people who can see and they've learnt that these people respond to gestures. Otherwise it doesn't make sense for a blind person to beckon on other blind people 😅.

Apart From These, They Did a Terrific Job

It was very commendable. I can't imagine the headache this premise must've caused for the writers, directors, and the other guys. They had to think carefully about every move and keep it in mind that the characters are blind.

They also made a fight scene, not just any fight scene, a battle scene, that's the craziest! A battle scene where one small army fought another. Two blind people can easily fight, but two blind groups is the most tricky, it's difficult to imagine them not killing their own teammates in all the chaos.

The only way to avoid that is for them to be very organized and systemized, but they weren't that organized. The major thing, though, is they were at least able to do it all quite convincingly without me thinking that is not possible!

I wonder how many more of these things I'll pick up as I continue to watch. I also wonder if I'll like to continue when I'm almost certain I'll keep seeing these little flaws and probably even more flaws.

Despite the logical inconsistencies, it's impressive how the show still managed to win you over, that says a lot about its execution.

A few days ago I watched the Squid game, it was quite interesting and the way you are talking about it, I will definitely try to start watching it.

Analyzing a movie from a logical perspective and against how reality works can be fun lol. I'm more interested in how the fighting scene was done, so I'll probably give that part a watch and stay away from the rest. I think movie directors don't always have much room to be creative in this type of settings without going over the top and making the show look too unrealistic from a critical eye.

I haven't watched the movie though but I think one of the reasons why they wear those things is for aesthetic. Some people loves seeing that and also their ancient dresses. This usually helps to rally with the stage and settings the movie.
For the blind, I can't tell...

Haha I totally get you! I had the same thoughts about the hairstyles n gestures too 😅 but still found myself impressed by how they pulled off such a wild concept. Gotta give props to the team behind Scene for the effort—it’s flawed, but kinda fascinating!

I’ve heard so much about this show but it still hasn’t made sense enough for me to see it.😅
