My top movies.

2021 was a good year for movies. We didn't have that many new releases but it was great to see some of the big titles from 2020 finally made it to the cinema. I hadn't been to the cinema since the hobbit movies hit the big screen but with all of the pubs closed over here i felt like it was the right time to try some sober entertainment once again.

These will be my favorite movies from 2021 rather then the ones which would make the Oscars nomination.

There will be no soppy romances on this list.
There will be a lot of dead bodies.
There will be some terrible choices.

With that said, I had my fun and that's all that matters.

I will give my top five, counting down to the best at number one.

Number 5 :King Richard.

We hadn't planned on going to this movie but it was on at the right time in the right place.

I really enjoy Will Smith as a tough talking no nonsense guy who was capable of anything on behalf of his family. Taking on the world and not backing down from a fight.

He was also very good in this movie too, where he played the father of the Williams sisters in a role very similar to his latest Oscars performance.

Number 4: Silk Road

This was not a great movie and won't be winning any awards but it was a great watch.

Seeing how Ross Ulbricht created and ran the illicit website "Silk Road," is obviously highly interesting for a person like myself with an interest in... technology....

I enjoyed the vision of the movie and learnt a lot about how the whole system was set up and operated. The characters were good and it was an easy watch for me.

Easy watching at it's finest and I really enjoyed Jason Clarke as the aging FBI agent who brought it all down the old fashioned way while the new kids were chasing their tails online.

Number 3: Belfast.

Not my usual type of movie but as an Irishman the Belfast and Northern Irish history has always held a deep interest to me.

A gritty look at the troubles through the eyes of a young boy and his family as they try to navigate the treacherous waters of political and religious differences.

It's a slow watch but very well put together and has some great performances from the likes of Jamie Dornan and Judi Dench. Not the usual bloodbath of an Irish historical movie but worth a watch none the less.

Number 2: Don't look up.

It would be funny if it wasn't so accurate.

Leo and Jennifer trying to warn the world of an impending disaster only to run into government interference, political spin and rich tycoons.

Nobody will believe them as their phones are telling them otherwise since it suits the rich and powerful to keep everybody in the dark.

Sound familiar.

Yes, this is our lives right now and this movie does a great job of showing how possible all of it is.

It's brilliantly done and has a good few laughs along the way but for me it's too accurate to be a complete comedy. More of a subtle dig at society.

Number 1: James Bond, No time to die.

I would never have been a huge James Bond fan but it was great to go as far as the cinema for a real blockbuster. It makes all the difference to sit in the big chairs, smell the popcorn and watch a single old man mow down hundreds of highly skilled operatives across multiple countries without being shot or arrested.

To be fair the last few movies have come a long way from some of the older versions. They now have a bit more grit and realism to them. The recipe hasn't changed,

  • Suave agent.
  • Guns
  • Cars
  • Money
  • Women

But the style has.

This was Daniel Craig's best movie from the series for me and put him right up at the top of the Bond list. It's a tough choice for the best Bond but for me it's between Craig and Brosnan.

Movie that I like to see is James Bond. I cant believe the last 007 movie was Spectre. It been a long time before this new one came out !

Thank you for your entry in the Cine TV contest! I loved the James Bond movie, except for a replacement 007 and the end. Thanks again.

Thanks for sharing your list. As an Irishman I didn't expect you to have Bond at Nr 1! haha

I usually like watching Di Caprio, but for me, Don't Look Up was hard. I just couldn't get into it at all, perhaps being a flat earther doesn't help, although I do like to watch Nasa clips for the laughs. :-D

Sliante!

nice list. I've found that the award winning movies are exactly the ones I DON'T want to see.. I always look at the real people's reviews, not the critics..

I've seen the last two on the list. Don't Look Up was real good. :)
