I like watching documentaries because they have a detail that other content does not: they are absolutely based on real events. There are no unnecessary actors, you hear the voices of the people who went through what the documentary narrates and it makes you think about how you would feel in that case. With "Our Father" I felt a lot of things because it is contemporary and you feel it very close.
Me gusta ver documentales porque tienen un detalle que otro contenido no: están basados absolutamente en hechos reales. No hay actores innecesarios, escuchas las voces de las personas que pasaron por lo que narra el documental y te hace pensar cómo te sentirías tú en ese caso. Con “Our Father” sentí muchísimas cosas porque es contemporáneo y lo sientes muy cerca.
The documentary told the story of Donald Cline, a fertility specialist in Indianapolis, Indiana, USA; who between the 1970's and 1990's fathered more than ninety children by inseminating with his sperm patients who thought they were receiving donations and, in some cases, their husband's biological material.

Emotionally it is heavy material and as a product it seeks to make you feel uncomfortable, there are many shots that remind me of Investigation Discovery, the lights, the dramatizations, everything immerses you in a pretty dense environment while you listen to Cline's colleagues, his children, journalists and women who were victims. The director knew what concept to bring and how to keep it.
Emocionalmente es un material pesado y como producto busca hacerte sentir incómodo, hay muchos planos que me recuerdan a Investigation Discovery, las luces, las dramatizaciones, todo te sumerge en un ambiente bastante denso mientras escuchas a compañeros de Cline, sus hijos, periodistas y mujeres que fueron víctimas. El director supo qué concepto llevar y cómo mantenerlo.
The narrative of the story is very good because it tells us little by little how these brothers discovered that they were the doctor's children, Cline's reactions, all that it meant for them and their family to discover the truth. Let's remember that some mothers were fertilized even when they had taken their husbands to give the sample. For thirty years or so several men believed they were the biological fathers of these people.
La narrativa de la historia es muy buena porque nos va contando poco a poco cómo estos hermanos descubrieron que eran hijos del médico, las reacciones de Cline, todo lo que supuso para ellos y su familia descubrir la verdad. Recordemos que algunas madres fueron fertilizadas aún cuando habían llevado a sus esposos para que dieran la muestra. Por más o menos treinta años varios hombres creyeron que eran padres biológicos de estas personas.
It reminded me of a chapter of "Law and Order" where they also protested that legally it is not a crime to impregnate a woman without her consent (I am not talking about rape, but about consensual relationships where the woman clearly does not want to have children and the man manipulates contraceptive methods) or to donate sperm illicitly. We are talking about a man who inherited genetic diseases to more than ninety people when legally he would not have been allowed to donate; who even treated his own daughters in his office being aware of it. It is dangerous that there are ninety or more siblings who do not know each other in the same city.
Me recordó bastante a un capítulo de “La Ley Y El Orden” donde también hacían una protesta a que legalmente no es un delito embarazar a una mujer sin su consentimiento (no hablo de violaciones, sino de relaciones consensuadas donde la mujer claramente no quiere tener hijos y el hombre manipula los métodos anticonceptivos) o donar esperma ilícitamente. Hablamos de un hombre que heredó enfermedades genéticas a más de noventa personas cuando legalmente no se le hubiese permitido donar; que incluso atendió en su consultorio a hijas suyas siendo consciente de ello. Es hasta peligroso que haya noventa hermanos o más que no se conocen en una misma ciudad.
Although it is not a documentary that incites morbidity and is not graphic, you still feel disgusted. It is interesting, entertaining and sometimes difficult to watch. The ending is good, was I outraged? Yes, without a doubt. But it sets an important precedent for American society and I would like to think for the world as well.
Aunque no es un documental que incita al morbo y no es gráfico, no dejas de sentirte repugnada. Es interesante, entretenido y a veces difícil de ver. El final está bueno, ¿quedé indignadisima? Sí, sin duda. Pero marca un precedente importante para la sociedad norteamericana y quisiera pensar que para el mundo también.
