Hello, people of Hive! I hope you had a great day, I sure did because I went back to watch one of my favorite movies of 2022, "Turning Red" or "Red" in Latin America, so make yourself comfortable because today we will talk about everything that's good about this film.
¡Hola, gente de Hive! Espero hayan tenido un día genial, yo sí que lo tuve porque volví a ver una de mis películas favoritas del 2022, “Turning Red” o “Red” en Latinoamérica, así que ponte cómodo que hoy hablaremos de todo lo que está bien en esta película.
"Turning Red" presents us with the story of Mei Lee, who could be just another thirteen-year-old girl torn between remaining her mother's child and finding her own voice through adolescence, is affected by a strange family inheritance that turns her into a red panda that appears to strong emotions. With a dynamic, funny plot and a clear message about loving everything in us, "Turning Red" came to Disney Plus to stay in history.
“Turning Red” nos presenta la historia de Mei Lee, la que podría ser una joven más de trece años que se debate entre seguir siendo la niña de su madre y encontrar su propia voz a través de la adolescencia, se ve afectada por una extraña herencia familiar que la convierte en un panda rojo que aparece ante las emociones fuertes. Con una trama dinámica, divertida y un mensaje claro sobre amar todo aquello que hay en nosotros, “Turning Red” llegó a Disney Plus para quedar en la historia.
Let's start with the animation, it already has the characteristic colors and textures of a good Pixar movie, but now they add an anime influence that makes it break out of the mold we are used to. The exaggerated expressions to accentuate emotions may seem a lot for those who don't watch anime, but for those of us who do, it's a real treat.
Comencemos con la animación, ya de por sí tiene los colores y texturas características de una buena película de Pixar, pero ahora le suman una influencia del anime que hace que salga del molde al que estamos acostumbrados. Las expresiones exageradas para acentuar las emociones puede parecer mucho para quienes no ven anime, pero para los que sí lo hacemos es un detallazo.
It's a film that develops everything it needs to develop and I like it for that. Mei is a girl that many teenagers can relate to, personally I see a lot of Mei in me. Her need to please her mother, to have the perfect grades, to be a good friend and herself even though it all clashes with each other. She's a teenager who still doesn't understand what's going on and you know she'll end up saturated.
Es una cinta que desarrolla todo lo que tiene que desarrollar y me gusta por eso. Mei es una chica con la que muchos adolescentes se pueden sentir identificados, en lo personal veo mucho de Mei en mí. Su necesidad de complacer a su madre, de tener las notas perfectas, ser buena amiga y ella misma aunque todo eso choque entre sí. Es una adolescente que aún no comprende lo que está pasando y sabes que terminará saturada.
The mother, Ming, is my favorite character, even though she is the antagonist of the installment, in the beginning she is a protective mother like any other: she embarrasses you, she asks you why you are late, she is always trying to control everything. As the plot progresses you see little signs that she is just that, a mother trying to protect her daughter the way she has been taught and is afraid of losing her now that she is changing.
La madre, Ming, es mi personaje favorito, aunque sea la antagonista de la entrega, en un principio es una madre protectora como cualquiera: te hace pasar vergüenza, te pregunta por qué llegas tarde, está siempre intentando controlar todo. A medida que la trama avanza vas viendo pequeñas señales de que solo es eso, una madre que intenta proteger a su hija de la manera en que se le ha enseñado a ella y que tiene miedo de perderla ahora que está cambiando.
Ming's development at the end made me cry a lot, it's a movie that, if you watch it as a family, you're going to hug your mom because it reminds you that deep down too they're little girls hurting . Of the family hurt dramas Disney has been sticking to lately, "Red" is the best because there's not just an apology, there's empathy and understanding, it feels real. It's not a "Encanto" with a song by way of apology.
El desarrollo de Ming al final me hizo llorar muchísimo, es una película que, si la ves en familia, vas a abrazar a tu madre porque te recuerda que en el fondo también son niñas lastimadas. De los dramas sobre heridas familiares a los que se ha apegado Disney últimamente, “Red” es el mejor porque no sólo hay una disculpa, hay empatía y entendimiento, se siente real. No es un “Encanto” con una canción a modo de disculpa.
The friends gave me a thousand years of life, their relationship with Mei is beautiful. And they are normal teenagers, not the stereotype that these movies sometimes have. Are they embarrassing? Sometimes, yes, but they're thirteen, we're all a little embarrassing at thirteen. Besides, they are funny, lovable and cool characters, I could watch it many, many times.
Las amigas me dieron mil años de vida, su relación con Mei es preciosa. Y son adolescentes normales, no el estereotipo que tienen a veces estas películas. ¿Dan vergüenza ajena? A veces, sí, pero tienen trece años, todos damos un poquito de vergüenza ajena a los trece años. Además, son personajes divertidos, adorables y cool, podría verla muchísimas veces.
If I could choose I would talk for hours about what Mei and Ming share during the tape or how funny it is but I assure you, you must see it for yourself. It's worth every second it lasts. It's a total 10/10.
