“Bonghoeffer. Pastor. Spy. Killer” – the path of a fighter

There are people who are not influenced by propaganda, see in advance what populist ideology is leading to and try to resist. If there were more of them, dictators would not have a chance to come to power.

So, our hero is a Lutheran pastor, one of the people who can think critically and predict what Hitler’s coming to power will end for the world. He begins to oppose the regime one of the first. Bonhoeffer will go through all the stages of resistance: from trying to open the eyes of his compatriots from the church pulpit (he will simply say in the church that Hitler is trying to replace God with himself), through espionage on the side of opponents of Nazism to active participation in an anti-Nazi conspiracy with the aim of physically destroying the Fuhrer. This is what courageous, brave people do, for whom justice is higher than “turn the other cheek when they slap you on the first” and feigned humility.

“When they came for the communists, I kept quiet because I was not a communist. When they came for the socialists, I kept quiet because I was not a socialist. When they came for the trade unionists, I kept quiet because I was not a trade unionist. When they came for the Jews, I kept quiet because I was not a Jew. When they came for me, there was no one left who could stand up for me,” said Bonhoeffer’s colleague, Pastor Martin Niemöller.

It is precisely because we remain silent for so long and do nothing that dictators come to power.
